  • Why the hell you bringin the white peeps Into dis??

  • The meaning of words can change when placed in a different,,,,,,,,,wait for it.....CONTEXT. The meanings of words are not open to interpretation when used in the correct....CONTEXT.

Is that the point you are struggling to make? When did you have this epiphany?

  • Bokababary

  • This happens a lot online. People will get offended over a word that is said because they feel as if you're saying something one thing and they just don't know what is meant. They don't even take the time to ask for clarification. They jump to conclusions. And this is one major reason why fights occur. Seems as if too many people don't really want to understandd anything.

  • Exactly... Its for that exact reason that I am no longer such a fan of youtube... Id rather deal with bloggers, because they seem to be more proficient in their use of a dictionary &/or just asking for clarification... I hate to sound like im bashing youtubers, but thats been my experience for the most part... Of course not all youtubers fit that description...

  • I get what you are saying, however the meaning of the word has been changed, it no longer represents that. Hasn't for a long time. And Its not in the dictionary. It now means 'to conform to the ideals of the vast majority or those who are in power'. Thats because our black ancestors were forced to assimilate, it wasn't by choice. Even now, there is that pressure to assimilate in the mainstream world. Look at hollywoods ideal of beauty, its a european idea. You are treated differently by the

  • masses if you show too much pride in your race in public. To be American IS to be white. The closer you are, the better you are treated. The Asians here, bleach their skin and dye their hair, and get eyelid surgery. The black women, perm/press their hair, get contacts, etc. We can only be ourselves in the privacy of our communities. This and much more is what it truly mean to assimilate. Now I believe that we should tolerate and understand each other instead of meshing together and glossing over

  • everyone differences. Its an insult. But Its the American way, regardless of what the dictionary say. Actions speak louder words.

  • You can wrap your prejudice around a word and make it mean whatever you want. But he makes an excellent point. The idea of having a centralized source where we can see the meanings of words makes it easier for all of us to understand each other. It has nothing to do with race and I think it really limits your range of movement and action to think that way. As it seems you support segregation. In genetics the lack of variety in genes has proven to produce weaker individuals. Same with society.

  • 1.) You have me wrong, I don't support segregation, but I don't push for intergration either. You go where you feel you fit in. But thats besides the point. The majority will always determine where you fit in whether you want them to or not. You said, "It has nothing to do with race and I think it really limits your range of movement and action to think that way". You're right, it does limit me, somewhat. But it does deal with race. Heres why, lets change race to culture. There is...

  • cont.2)...American culture, African american culture, Asian american culture, Native american culture, Hispanic american culture. etc. Everyone in their prospective cultures just happens to have very similar skin color. Regardless of skin color, these cutures just happen to be different from American culture for some reason. American culture has the majority of people in it, The majority of their people have political power and pull. They are the most visible and is seen as the most powerful.

  • cont.3) So many people from the other cultures want to fit in with the American culture as best as possible. Assimilate means-To take in ans incorporate as one's own; adsorb. That means to incorporate some aspect of mainstream(American culture) into your own culture. However, most people take this definition of assimilation - To conform or adjust to the customs or attitudes, etc, of a group, nation, or the like.. Which means many people will try to discard their culture inorder to fit in with...

  • cont4)mainstream. This doesn't happen only in America. Anywhere there is a majority, there will be a minority, and this will happen. I got both of those definitions form dictionarydotcom, I guess the second is easier for people to understand. DOn't ask me why but unfortunately, it will get you perks. Which is why meaning people got angry at his last video. Please don't take my works as prejudice either, this comes from observation and research.

  • Cont5.) I do agree with the rest of you comment though.

  • you have to understand that dictionaries were written by people themselves, and those people defined those words in accordance to how THEY felt about them.

  • Language is fluid, and words will naturally come to have different definitions. This is how language evolves. To say that black people cannot, have not or have no right to influence this process is queer indeed.

  • exactly, couldn't've said it betta myself!

  • How many of you believe that your mind is ENSLAVED?

  • STONE THAT MAN!!!!!! This Brotha is mindless and is definitly operating via his lower chakra!!!!!!!!!!!!! Our people are asleep, suffering and you mean to tell me "definition of a word" is your plight???

    Did someone say COINTELPRO???????????????

  • Should I resort to censorship because I disagree with this comment? NAH! That would be me operating from my lower chakra. LMAO! Look at the videos and raido shows you do. Conspiracy theories! LOL. Our people are dying and you are talking about who created the lightbulb.

    Did someone say reptilians... LOL

  • I dont think you are a sellout. A sellout is someone who either ignores the plight or actively aides in the destruction of african people. you chose the word assimilate and you even said that it has several definitions. i think thats the confusion. maybe if you used merge or the phrase build there would not have been as much controversy. nigga and nigger are two different words. see, they are even spelled different and have two different definitions.

  • I like ya style man...5stars...keep debating the facts.

  • i hope your gay as son die you aids faggot. you are not intelligent. now stay the fuck off my page bitch you don't know me

  • Not AIDS.. Cancer... And you will get your wish one day. But not before I address this issue. All i did was leave my opinion about your video. LOL. So Sensitive. Now you are having a commenting temper tantrum. LMAO!

The funny thing is that Im going to leave your comments up. You erased mine, and they werent even uncivilized. You think your comments are civil? LOL

  • and now his account is closed....

  • And I am not surprised, for words do have the tendency to either testify for or against one, in this case him/her. LOL

  • understanding your enemy is 1st priority...

  • Okay, but what about understanding oneself, shouldn't that be the first priority, for in your own body resides your spirit that guides your thoughts, emotions, speech and actions. Therefore to know as much as you can about your enemy, does not guarantee your armour/walls of defence are well maintained.

  • since English is not my primary language, yet I still would like to be understood. Bless

  • I have been following your discourse. Interesting, it also reminds me of the origin of different languages during the building of the tower of Babel in ancient times. Apparently according to Scriptures, even if we were to speak and understand solely one language, there is still no guarantee that we will have a righteous and peaceful planet (Gen. 11:1-9). Besides that, I do check my dictionaries on a regular basis,

  • Chee I fully agree with you

  • You are NOT !! a pest--a pest is a sickness,be thoughtful about what you say about yourself, please.Don't open the door to negatives to yourself when you are working on building up truth, honesty, etc.Blessing is the vocab that descibes you a lot better, you make us think in good ways.Check C.Mayfield"Think"

  • Of course i was just being funny when i made the pest comment.

  • Assimilate; to take in as one own; to bring into conformity with the customs attitudes etc., of a group.Regarding your prior video, the challenge I encounter was interpreting your message.

  • or jews the greatest assimilates of our past, present and future time. who owns your light company

  • I could not identify the premise of the entire video. I wasn't sure who was your target audience. I found it difficult to follow. I could only speculate about your message. Where you trying to articulate that black Americans can benefit from assimilating to America Culture? If that is what you were attempting to discuss, the problem is, the black community IS a part of American culture. If by assimilate you meant Cultural Assimilation

  • The black community has a large influence on American Culture. If I can suggest, in the future you may want to begin with an opening statement. Being your "premise", two or three fact to support your premise and a close. I hope this will help; maybe it will clear up future unnecessary debate for lack of focus.

  • Your are talking in cirlces my friend! You need a clear point, there is much to discuss.

  • And only 10 minutes to do it in. Me talking in circles is your opinion and I accept it as such. Try and bring some reasons why you think i am talking in circles next time. Making this kind of broad statement without an explanation is more of a waste of time than my talking in circles for 10 minutes. Dont you think?

  • the english language is not from england it is from germany anglo-saxon II and i know just how you feel and i did read it from cover to cover did the same thing side by side with the bible i now use the world dictionary and encarta dictionary that gives the sources to all words not just english i also have the greek and latin dictionary these languages are low vibrations and deteriorates your spirit so there for i now have learned many afuraka afuraitkait languages real vibration languages

  • What happen to "context" people?words, language in general as somebody said earlier helps us to express ourselves,to be understood,so the people u`re talking to,the subject u`re discussing and the context in which the conversation is occuring are as important as the words,as the language.our minds are a lot more complex and richer than any language on earth, that`s one of the reasons we sometimes use the same word to express different ideas or feelings,we just apply it to the context.

  • This is the kind of, thought provoking, comment I was talking about. I learned something from this post. Actually had to go to dictionarydotcom to find the word 'gallimaufry'. Thats a new one for me. Thanks. LOL.

  • i have some words for you

    illumines cocoon

    recapitulation

    oscillation

    interval

    pituitary

    Dimethyltryptamin

and curse words were do they really come from and the dictionary does not tell you the truth every time any way ass come from the word asar aset as bitch bi black tch hate fuck f'ak enemy cure but in akan phaket/fuck it means to for get now damn is a real curse word

and i have words from 1800 different afurakanu afuraitkaitnut languages

  • Very good video. I understood clearly what you meant when you said assimilate so no confusions here.

I think you guys and girls already know that i think racism is just an illusion but i decided to repeat it again just now.

  • Language is an always changing thing. Dictionaries are only 100% accurate the second they are printed. People change the meanings of words over time. To expect that everyone should understand the same language would mean that the entire world would speak one language, one dialect, etc.

  • Yes. I realize that language is forever changing, which is why i said get an up to date dictionary. LOL. But that was just me being an ass really. When 2 people argue the term "racism", however, rather than argue why not break out your Webster's?

Moreover, when language changes I am assuming it is because the majority of people accepted and use the new definitions. But, when you get one small group of people making up their own definition to a word, then what?

  • You only use language to express yourself to the group you are directly talking to. "Fosheezy" has a meaning to some people. Because it doesn't mean anything to Chez Whitey, does that invalidate it? It won't be on a college exam but if "your dogs" understand it, it's still a word.

  • I usually dance around the word "racism" because even though the dictionary says one thing, people have attached their own greatly various meanings to it. So the question is: Is Noah Webster the ultimate and defining source? Is it law? My very first video "Whyt Peppulz" was about the dictionary definition.

  • Right. Well I'm not disputing that. You are correct on all points. My thing is that there is a universal language and it is one that we should all know in conjunction to any alternate variations.

I use slang and terms that only have meaning within my circle of friends. When I get around other people I cannot expect them to now our exclusive language. I have to use universal terms if I expect them to now what it is that I am saying. Thats the point of the message.

  • Not to take away from the alternate definitions but to now the universal terms so that you can have a discussion where anyone can understand.

  • What is this universal language, are you talking about a verbal or a non-verbal language or both?

  • I would say both. And when I say universal i mean native to a specific area. Maybe Universal wasnt the best choice of words.

  • But your blog is about words at times you seem confused,I love ya bro. but you have to stop painting with such a broad brush.

  • you know that s a very good point, how are people supposed to communicate with each other if the words they are using don't mean what they think it does, especially in an educational environment, you won't be able to learn if what you are taking in doesn't make since to you.

  • That's why we need to respect Standard English. If we don't we might as well be speaking different languages.

  • LOL @ the 1st post war... You never made a ridiculous comment that I can recall. Most comments here on youtube are kool for my channel. For some reason people only like to attack other channels. But since im there reading and posting myself i feel the need to address it. My audience is rather tame for now... Some of you anyways. LOL...

  • Tame? You want to ruffle up the fearthers of assumptions, so you're challenging ppl after all? LOL I think it worked :-D

  • Malcom X copied the dictionary 7X I thought. I hope that my comments are not ignorant. Maybe besides giving the definition in your videos, how about 3-4 examples to go with it. To me assimilating add adapting are very close. To the Dream Reborn, IN YOUR FACE FIRST POST!!

  • Damn it. I was getting held up in a ridiculous conversation just now. I had to pause the video. I assure you, it will not happen again.

I agree with you. He should give examples of his definitions at the beginning of these types of videos because as we saw, everybody has their own definition of the word. Some of those definitions are out of this world though.
