there's one reason I gave this video a thumbs down. Not because this drummer isn't amazing at playing licks and multiple rhythms, but because there is no context. this has nothing to do with the drumset in music. I've seen Tony play with a band, and for all the hours he put into his technique, he needs to put in more hours studying how to play music. Honestly this is the case with many of today's clinician type drummers and why drummer's like Jay Bellerose and Steve Jordan get all the real gigs
It's like he's been taking lessons with Derico Watson. Crazy speed then bringing it down. Crazy speed again, then bring it back down. It's awesome cuz it's totally improvised.
I love these "Dylan is better than Royster" comments.Does anyone honestly think Dylan could OUT play technically, or OUT groove Tony Royster in any way? Thats like saying Travis Barker could OUT play or OUT Groove Jojo Mayer. . . Thats not even possible to debate without making up lies on the spot!
@jmr2master ugg. why must shitty drummers be mentioned...when someone says something about travis barker or the dude from slipknot, just give it a thumbs down and it will be flagged as spam...so the shit will be hidden for people that come to look in the future.
@mrmeatti66 lol as if tony royster jr isn't a drummer? and there are videos without him using double bass; tons. he plays just as well without them. dylan is good, but tony's incorporation of on-a-dime changes and complex grooves makes him more interesting to watch/hear. at least to me.
@mrmeatti66 You should check out some of his other stuff. For the majority of the time he is not playing both pedals, is there a little jealousy in that staement? The two bass drums are not what makes Tony a good drummer, but he does work them well.
@sccplr09 Sorry dude but no.... Check the vid from when Tony Royster is 12 and you will understand when I mean... Love Dylan too, but Tony is the wiz kid numero uno (although being in his mid 20´s now)
@TheDrumPark1 How about one of the best drummers in the world in general? He's better than any rock drummer, that's for sure, and could easily compete with many of the jazz greats. Even Buddy Rich would sweat his ass off against Royster.
WHY HE IS NOT IN DREAM THEATRE???

is it me or did he play as fast as any double bass player with one foot?
wonderboii223 2 months ago
@wonderboii223 For a moment I'd swear he was doing triplets with his right foot!
PhantomDrums917 1 month ago
@wonderboii223 Search for George Kollias and see what can he does with one foot. And then see what he can with two.
