@walletman23 It's a misconception made by people who have not read up on his personal history. I'm not going to get into it here. All I can say is that he said himself that the role was the most fun he's had playing a role, and the movie was done filming in the summer of 2007. By 2008 he was already filming his last movie.

i cried when he died. he did an incredible outstanding job no one can replace him as the joker. NO one. that should of NOT been his last movie. and he still would of won that award alive or dead. unfortunatly he won it dead.

Great actor though!! What a great loss for the cinema world. I watched that movie starting being diffident(since marvel based movie), then turning in enthusiastic when I saw his personnage and his recitation. I'm very not into the cinema world, I just watch sometime some movie, but I guess he deserved surely the oscar.

It wasn't a exactly a year. He died in January, not February.
