I did a Spiny Shell Experiment similar to this, but I didn't do it against computer players. (Not to spam my vids here, but I think it's relevant.)

I believe that since the race is over, the Shell wouldn't have targeted him, so the Shell doesn't get destroyed

Now that people are bringing it up........ how did you have a 26 minute race? I thought if you were playing alone and were yet to pass the finish line but the other 7 cars had, it finished automatically? Did you have a second controller with a character not moving so you could set this up?

It doesn't automatically end if you're playing by yourself. If your playing one-player, the race doesn't end until you cross the finish line.
