  • this is just a still photo added to a timeline with a shaking effect...if you believe this is actually real then you suck...

  • how often would you be recording in an earthquake? this is a dumb test and makes this cam look like crap..the powered ois and dynamic is damn good...the only thing is sometimes with left to right movements the image will stay for a quick second then move..also with a tripod the image will move when the cam isnt moving (yes i know you dont need it on w/ a tpod)...but this test doesnt show how good it is and no ois is good enough for a test like this...utterly pointless and misleading..

  • someone with parkinson doesnt even shake that much

  • WTF kind of test is this? pretty useless imo when you have such rapid shaking that comes no where near close to how a human hand shakes. Brilliant.

  • I hate your dog

  • These tests are such bullshit. So ur sayin a kodak zi8 100$ cam shakes less that a 1000$ Canon.....no because i own both those cams and u can litterally shake the cam and it looks like ur holding it normal and the zi8 stabilization has really no effect on it and thats the bottom line people, this test is very wrong.

  • yeah i own this camera to and it does not shake like this at all...

  • This test is brilliant. Because it shows the Problem of "Rolling Shutter".

I Mounted my Cam to my Bike (Lumix GF1-C) and even

on VERY plane Street the vibrations made the Video useless:

    watch?v=EfbBFDTpGcg

  • i h8 cmos ;)

  • if you pick your laptop or monitor up and shake it really fast when you watch this it helps stabilize the video too

  • lol

  • this test is useless, a comparison that shows no visible difference between the feature being on, what is the point? ive seen the feature at work, it is a noticeable difference in stabilizing the image.

  • I saw no difference, at least visibly.

  • I disagree with the conclusion that the new Sony cx550 would be the winner in terms of IS. I've used both and the Sony's warp the images in the ones I used in the store. You can see it on the TV monitor they had on display and on the cameras screen. They had a weird bowing affect on the image in an up and down movement. The S11 I have doesn't warp the image and is as close to the Sony as I would ever need. This test is not effective in accurately reflecting the Canon IS effectiveness.

  • I agree too. We have only two points of measurement, in principle one could try to see how OIS behaves in various situations of different shake intensity. Camcorderinfo could consult some engineers if such measurements are possible, I personally would just vary the speed of their device and measure different point and see if there's a plato in OIS efficiency and what is % of shake compensation.

  • Good job Camcorderinfo! Thank you.

    Concerning the test:

:( OIS is no better than HF S11, so bad. Even powered OIS does not heIp much. I hoped Canon would do better this year. This makes new Sony XR(CX)550 winner in terms of OIS (provided they are approximately the same as the last year models). Let's see color charts and resolution now... I hope you have new Sony models for review as well.

  • @aprokudin how come the sonys dont put out 24p lke the canons do!

  • @hallal55 I wrote "winner in terms of OIS", don't get me wrong. Canon has advantages and drawbacks as any camcorder. 24p is great to have for cinema enthusiasts.

  • yeah i like the sonys low light is very terrific indeed better than canons..but how come sony doesnt include 24p in thier camcorders....panasonic does, canon, JVC....

  • @hallal55 because canon is badass.

  • Do you find S21's stabilization good or not? I want to buy that cam and OIS is one of the most important factors.

  • This test is really useless due to the fast shaking that even causes CMOS wobble effects.

You can't tell from this how real-world usage would be. Best is to check user videos in various situations. If you check the HF-S11 you see pretty decent steady walking shots (unlike this weird test).

  • I agree. Camcorderinfo should emulate shaking similar to human's hand. Results in shaking like in test doesn't have to go in pair with real results.

  • I completely agree. You get the imression that the IS in this test is non-existent. I own the S11 and it's top knotch.

  • @quaxk See real-world test here: vimeo . com / 10817385.

Note that according to ccinfo stabilization didn't improve much.

Take any other camcorder and zoom 10x and then see how steady you can keep the picture without tripod. The powered IS works very well.

  • @Luke48 Well, I think it's good enough to show why CCD-s should have never dissapeared from camcorders!

Rolling shutter is a a killer for anything that moves.

  • @ave2timeslip Very true for very fast motions like in a racing car. For walking it's fine and you can see many example videos on youtube. There's a fix for wobble effect: global shutter. But none of the consumer camcorders have it unfortunately:-(.

CCD are not completely devoid of issues either: e.g. vertical smearing.

  • I own the S11 and I can say from first hand experience don't be mislead by how bad the results are in these supposed tests. I spent months trying to decide between the sony xr500v and the S11 and went for the S11 and was glad I did. The new dynamic IS in real world use is just superb. I have no regrets in my purchase.

  • @worldidolpoland it is great...this isnt an actual test...its just a photo with a shake effect...notice how it isnt even video..how could you test it on a photo thats already taken...it does have some slight issues with quick movement but in all reality how often do you need to use it? just invest in a tripod...its guaranteed to be stable...
