  • Cool story bro.

  • Shel Silverstein was a helluva writer.

  • Great tune, well done, I have it by the "Old Dogs".

  • actually I heard a Bob Gibson version from the early 80's. I'm pretty sure that it was just a new trick for the old dogs.

  • I am scared of getting old.

  • The first version I heard was by Bob Gibson. But the song and poem came on one of Shel's albums in the 70's

  • i think the video is great, good song-but your still gonna die

  • Saw the video with Jerry reed and the boys last night. Anybody know where to find that online? Much better than this one.

  • Gpd I love this clip and this song!!

  • true song

  • *****

I just heard this on the radio, it good but the version I heard on the radio was better.

  • Send this to our mayor Bloomberg, who bans smoking, transfat, & anything enjoyable here in NY, cause he thinks he's everyone's babysitter. Keep his Jew nose out of everyone's business!

  • 100% golden truth

  • Australian comedy star, Danny McMaster. i believe this is.

  • its waylon jennings and some other guys

  • It was written by Shel Silverstein

  • although this isnt the original recording, the original was by waylon jennings, mel tillis, bobby bare and jerry reed, who called themselves (and their only 1998 album) "Old Dogs". All the songs on the album were written by Shel Silverstein (who may be best known for writing "Boy Named Sue", which you know by Johhny Cash).

  • @RevSpike

He's equally known for "The Unicorn" and "Cover of the Rolling Stone", i suspect.

And Bob GIbson and Dennis Lecorriere (from Dr Hook and the Medicine Show) did an earlier recording, and Shell recorded it even earlier...

  • The original certainly was Waylon, but this version is Danny McMaster from Australia.

  • The other guys were Mel Tillis, Bobby Bare, and Jerry Reed. Shel Silverstien wrote all their songs. The band was called Old Dogs, The cd came out in the 90s. Worth tracking down,. It's got a lot of good songs.

  • where can you find it?..its the good version

  • Great song, brilliant writing.....I know Old Dogs, but who is the guy in this vid ? He is just lip-synching,right? Anyway very clever and catchy :-)

  • Waylon Jennings, Mel Tillis, Bobby Bare, and Jerry Reed. aka Old Dogs from 1998. that is the original group for this song btw folks :D

  • @hifineeds Actually it's originally by Shel Silverstein. Just like it says under the video.
