Yank rhymes with "Septic Tank" (the big concrete tanks where effluent goes) which becomes "Seppo."

It's not usually used to offend people (although it sometimes is but you'd have to look at the body language to tell). It's basically just like any other rhyming slang, like "Dead Horse" = tomato sauce "Pat Malone" = alone etc etc
