the zr-1 can take corners at higher speeds than the new gt-r, (not sure about the 2012), but that is still evidence enough that vettes have world class cornering. It's just unfortunate that GM doesn't put the engineering that goes into their corvette performance into all aspects of all their cars

You can find an early C6 ZO6 in the $40-50k range & your be one of the fastest cars on the street. Put a couple of grand into it for H/C/I & call it a day! It will do straight line racing all day, then be quick around a track, cost $100k + less then European cars, responds great to mods, parts are a lot cheaper, gets good mpg, & its LIGHT! I think some of you are a little touchy about a car you will never own or have ever driven. No one is comparing a Z06 to a Ferrari. What we are comparing is the performance. The Z06 performs extremely well and does it efficiently, by getting great mpg at a price many people can actually afford. The only difference is whether or not you are eating a filet mignon in a mansion or at nice condo. Some people don't need the mansion. We just need a fork and a knife.

The world had better recognize that America builds performance cars that are nasty going straight, on turns and getting better mpg while doing it. The 2011 Mustang GT is the fastest production car at 30K on the planet. C6s are slaughtering cars left and right costing 2-5 times and it takes a 132K Panamera to beat a 65K CTS-V. No BMW, MB or others touch it. That must be killing egos everywhere.

I enjoy lowend torque and usable powerbands. I worked as a tech for Mercedes Benz for several years. The novelty wore off in the first month after I was fixing several a day. You couldn't give me any Mercedes because I would sell it and get a Lexus.
aieljose, You cry more than my 21 month old daughter. The C6 Z06 has much more engine, but it makes much more torque and gets almost twice the mpg as the polluter F430 so I would say that is the smarter way to go. This was a display of real TORQUE and not fake torque, which is nothing more than low torque mulitplied by aggressive gearing. Once you are out of the mutliplying gears and closer to 1:1, your torqueless ass is cooked plain and simple.
question is what can Ferrari build for 75k. I love Ferrari, but there's the challenge. if I had 20 million dollars I can build a F1 car, that enzo wouldn't have such great performance next to it. it's all relative. Can Ferrari built a car for 100k that can keep up with a Corvette.

The Corvette's doing pretty good and holding its own. Now if they really wanted to have "Lulz: American Style" in a vs. expensive exotic car comparison, somebody needs to get their hands on "The Brick from Hell". It's still fairly surprising what a Buick GN(X) can do in a straight line with the best American V6 technology the 1980's had to offer. (Of course finding one in good working order is ever more rare these days -likely even moreso in Europe, but they're still fun to watch out for.)

not exactly... you can compare the standing of these cars in their respective ranges (ie GT2 and ZR1 being top, Z06 and Turbo approximately second) but the Z06 isnt a direct competitor to the Turbo imo, as the Turbo is very luxury etc... now the ZR1 and GT2 can be said to be direct competitors as they are just two uncompromised, performance cars
Ferrari is obviously more than just performance, you get the exclusive ownership, quality Chevrolet can never come close to, exotic appeal, and the noise of an F1 car that echos and gives every car fan the chills when heard ripping through the RPM.
BUT case and point: Chevy built a car, faster than an F430 for a fraction of the price IN a track AND straight line. Performance numbers, the Z06 beat the F430. Performance, among THESE TWO, the Ferrari lost. Track, Z06 will do just as much damage

Don't get me wrong mate, my love for Ferrari is outstanding. I grew up in Italy with a quite large family and have seen the cars being built and have a great passion for these cars. But I also like the Corvette, it is an astonishing piece of engineering.
Yes the Z06 is a whole 11 seconds slower than the GT2, considering comparable horsepower and comparable capacity (7.0L is still considered higher capacity than 3.8L turbo though)
if you're comparing a Z06, you should compare it to a Scuderia imo... of if you want to compare to f430, compare a normal c6...
you should use either both top of the range or both bottom (excluding the zr1 due to forced induction) and also even the c6 has a good 1.7-1.9L advantage over the f430... not to mention the SEVEN litre engine in the z06...
that's just my thinking... smaller capacity, same horsepower and faster
Yes, it means that the S2000 is brilliantly engineered and is the reason that car sells for $37k in your country (more than comparable turbocharged cars like an Evo)
HP/Litre is very relevant, because its not an achievement to get crazy HP or speed out of a car by just cranking up the capacity...
What does the f430 do to go faster, tune the same engine. What does the vette do? Add a litre of capacity.

Ferrari have never build their cars to go fast straight-line as a top priority. Would be really nice to see m5board test cars in a technical track one day, it is then we'll see both sides of the world! As for now, you'll just have to see cars being used in terms of it's power potential, and not it's handling-performance.
Quality vs quantity. Straight line speed vs handling. These vids from m5board are excellent is terms of seeing which car is faster on the straight. But take the race to a track with multiple technical corners, the F430 will dance in circles around the vette. Anyone can go fast straight, but it takes brains to go fast in the corners.

i love the vette you get so much car for the money.on top of that its very reliable and low maintainence, my buddy has one it has 75,000miles all he does is change oil, tires, and brakes. ferrari is nothing but a name to me, your paying for a name, and after seeing it's performance it should be around the same price as the vette. and if thats all im doing is paying for a name then give me the vette, and ill spend the price diff on upgrades and have a car that even a bugatti can't touch

Ricest reply. I own a Z06, check my profile, but you can't claim that a car is superior because it cost less. You can take a 5k mustang and turn it into a 9-10 second 1/4 mile for 10-15k. Does that mean it's a better, or more appealing car? No.
@mawk27 I wish I had a corvette, you must be very successful. I find the corvette appealing because of its practicality(for a modern performance car). What I find more appealing is a old fast Chevy with no electronics and nice acoustics percussing out of the exhaust. One that will out run both the Ferrari and the Corvette in the 1/4 mile.
I can build an engine for less then 5k that will out put 600+ hp.
@SRBRacing No I am not rich, if you were implying that. I picked up my 2003 Z06 for 25k 2 years ago. 27 years old, graduated from college, and work hard. I could never afford a brand new LS7Z. You can see it is not that fast. I just got home from my local track, HMP. I run consistant 7.5-7.6's @ 93-94mph. My car can't keep up with either one of these cars on the top end. (Only for 2 more weeks, heads/cam going in).
BTW, my c5Z is not nearly as nice as a c6Z inide. I

Both are amazing cars.... But come on people Corvette are one of the best BANG FOR YOUR BUCK cars out there! You can find an early C6 ZO6 in the $40-50k range & your be one of the fastest cars on the street. Put a couple of grand into it for H/C/I & call it a day! It will do straight line racing all day, then be quick around a track, cost $100k + less then European cars, responds great to mods, parts are a lot cheaper, gets good mpg, & its LIGHT! Both have ups & downs but best bang for you buck?

To be honest thats nothing as it can come down to driver abilty if you're talking just 1 sec a difference. The Corvette gives you a lot for your money thats true and it looks amazing! I think some of you are a little touchy about a car you will never own or have ever driven. No one is comparing a Z06 to a Ferrari. What we are comparing is the performance. The Z06 performs extremely well and does it efficiently, by getting great mpg at a price many people can actually afford. The only difference is whether or not you are eating a filet mignon in a mansion or at nice condo. Some people don't need the mansion. We just need a fork and a knife.

The world had better recognize that America builds performance cars that are nasty going straight, on turns and getting better mpg while doing it. The 2011 Mustang GT is the fastest production car at 30K on the planet. C6s are slaughtering cars left and right costing 2-5 times and it takes a 132K Panamera to beat a 65K CTS-V. No BMW, MB or others touch it. That must be killing egos everywhere.

I enjoy lowend torque and usable powerbands. I worked as a tech for Mercedes Benz for several years. The novelty wore off in the first month after I was fixing several a day. You couldn't give me any Mercedes because I would sell it and get a Lexus.

The C6 Z06 has much more engine, but it makes much more torque and gets almost twice the mpg as the polluter F430 so I would say that is the smarter way to go. This was a display of real TORQUE and not fake torque, which is nothing more than low torque mulitplied by aggressive gearing. Once you are out of the mutliplying gears and closer to 1:1, your torqueless ass is cooked plain and simple.

Stock 426 adding 175 crank with a blower intake and headers and tune is no problem....suspension upgrades and brakes....and walla for 41k a ferrari killer

The Corvette's doing pretty good and holding its own. Now if they really wanted to have "Lulz: American Style" in a vs. expensive exotic car comparison, somebody needs to get their hands on "The Brick from Hell". It's still fairly surprising what a Buick GN(X) can do in a straight line with the best American V6 technology the 1980's had to offer. (Of course finding one in good working order is ever more rare these days -likely even moreso in Europe, but they're still fun to watch out for.)

Ferrari is obviously more than just performance, you get the exclusive ownership, quality Chevrolet can never come close to, exotic appeal, and the noise of an F1 car that echos and gives every car fan the chills when heard ripping through the RPM.
BUT case and point: Chevy built a car, faster than an F430 for a fraction of the price IN a track AND straight line. Performance numbers, the Z06 beat the F430. Performance, among THESE TWO, the Ferrari lost. Track, Z06 will do just as much damage

LS7 is still on pushrods (2 valves per cylinder) Far less technology was put into the LS motor as opposed to the Ferrari.
And the Z06 is standard. Either way, Ferrari got beat by ancient pushrod technology. :-)

Yes the Z06 is a whole 11 seconds slower than the GT2, considering comparable horsepower and comparable capacity (7.0L is still considered higher capacity than 3.8L turbo though)

Although, the Scuderia F430 and the Enzo were significantly faster, both of those are outstanding performing vehicles.

if you're comparing a Z06, you should compare it to a Scuderia imo... of if you want to compare to f430, compare a normal c6...
you should use either both top of the range or both bottom (excluding the zr1 due to forced induction) and also even the c6 has a good 1.7-1.9L advantage over the f430... not to mention the SEVEN litre engine in the z06...
that's just my thinking... smaller capacity, same horsepower and faster

A Honda S2000 makes the same HP/Liter numbers as an F430...does that mean its better/same? Not even close! HP/Liter is irrelevant in my opinion.

Yes, it means that the S2000 is brilliantly engineered and is the reason that car sells for $37k in your country (more than comparable turbocharged cars like an Evo)
HP/Litre is very relevant, because its not an achievement to get crazy HP or speed out of a car by just cranking up the capacity...
What does the f430 do to go faster, tune the same engine. What does the vette do? Add a litre of capacity.

i was under the impression that s2000 is still being produced, because I thought there was a 2009 face lift?
either way, for a japanese, naturally aspirated four banger to be sold for such a huge price for so many years (was it 10?) virtually unchanged, is nothing but brilliant... especially in the US market, which is known for demanding other things from cars (such as muscle)

Don't get me wrong, I'd buy a Vette, if I lived in the US and they were cheap, unlike in Oz and the rest of the world,
But then if I had the money, I wouldn't give the Vette a thought and buy a Ferrari. IMO there's more to a car than +/-3 seconds on the Ring that you can brag about (even though I maintain Ferrari's superiority on it), and surely I wouldn't buy a car jut to drag it...
Vettes are great, awesome for the $. Given the chance though, I'd go with big red 10 times outa 10

I'll still make you feel stupid by telling you the Corvette's "massive" engines gets better gas mileage, and you say it's not good engineering. Also, compare price wise, the ZR1 shits all over the GT2, GT, and GT3. Still costing less, but you still say it's not good engineering. I bet if it was European you'd be saying it was.

Ferrari have never build their cars to go fast straight-line as a top priority. Would be really nice to see m5board test cars in a technical track one day, it is then we'll see both sides of the world! As for now, you'll just have to see cars being used in terms of it's power potential, and not it's handling-performance.

Quality vs quantity. Straight line speed vs handling. These vids from m5board are excellent is terms of seeing which car is faster on the straight. But take the race to a track with multiple technical corners, the F430 will dance in circles around the vette. Anyone can go fast straight, but it takes brains to go fast in the corners.

i love the vette you get so much car for the money.on top of that its very reliable and low maintainence, my buddy has one it has 75,000miles all he does is change oil, tires, and brakes. ferrari is nothing but a name to me, your paying for a name, and after seeing it's performance it should be around the same price as the vette. and if thats all im doing is paying for a name then give me the vette, and ill spend the price diff on upgrades and have a car that even a bugatti can't touch

Also Lets get the facts correct that the cost of the car is like 1/4 that of the F430. If I can drop 75k into a Z06 that F430 would be in the dust with 100K to spare.

Ricest reply. I own a Z06, check my profile, but you can't claim that a car is superior because it cost less. You can take a 5k mustang and turn it into a 9-10 second 1/4 mile for 10-15k. Does that mean it's a better, or more appealing car? No.

@mawk27 I wish I had a corvette, you must be very successful. I find the corvette appealing because of its practicality(for a modern performance car). What I find more appealing is a old fast Chevy with no electronics and nice acoustics percussing out of the exhaust. One that will out run both the Ferrari and the Corvette in the 1/4 mile.
I can build an engine for less then 5k that will out put 600+ hp.

@SRBRacing No I am not rich, if you were implying that. I picked up my 2003 Z06 for 25k 2 years ago. 27 years old, graduated from college, and work hard. I could never afford a brand new LS7Z. You can see it is not that fast. I just got home from my local track, HMP. I run consistant 7.5-7.6's @ 93-94mph. My car can't keep up with either one of these cars on the top end. (Only for 2 more weeks, heads/cam going in).
BTW, my c5Z is not nearly as nice as a c6Z inide. I
