  • This is not a teacher crying out for recognition, it's a human being sharing one of life's most important lessons. When you die, you won't be remembered for your income, car, or house. What you'll always be remembered for, is the person that you were, the way you treated others, and the difference you made in their lives. We shouldn't spend our lives seeking wealth and praising those with the biggest checkbooks, but praising those with the biggest hearts while we strive to make a difference.

  • If more teachers were like this the world would be a better place. We need to expand the minds of children. Push the limits if what they can do. They r the new and improved models right. What's the sense of have a new motor and old oil. He is definitely beautiful in his passion.

  • This is definitely beautiful.

  • Got dam ...guess ill hit the books now.

  • I like his policy on asskicking.

  • 10 people are lawyers. >_<

  • I can't decide which version of this poem I like more.. The one he presented on Def Jam Poetry or this one on stage. There's definitely a difference in the way he delivers the poem. Anyways, one of my favorite favorite poems because I plan to be a teacher in the future, and I really do believe that teachers make a difference in the lives of students.

  • The title of this is "What Teachers Make." Please spread the word and correct this mistake and any others you notice regarding Mali's or anyone's work for that matter. This poem has spread throughout other professions and sadly lost it's credits to Mali. See his website. As well, please spread the word that such a great artist exists. Thanks to all fellow Taylor Mali fans.

  • looks like 10 people missed the like button

  • 10 people are lawyers.

  • I favorited this a long time ago.

This was only my second time watching it because I was afraid to click on it.

  • i respect you, sir and i ve had a lot of teachers whom i respect very much. but i have also seen, in many cases where the theacher is a teacher because they cant do, and they resent the fact that they cant do... which is hell for the student who can do.

  • A fellow teacher sent this to me and I'm in love! I love him, I love his righteous indignation-- I wanna be him when I grow up! Too late--I am grown up, but some day, I want to be that teacher. Perhaps again--I used to have passion like that. He's not an egomaniac, he's passionate! Love, love, love this guy!

  • I realize it's probably just his stage persona, but he comes across as a petty asshole on a power trip. We've all met people who actually are like this, and they're far from being inspirational.

  • wowzers i'll never look at teachers the same way again :D

  • This is what I aspire to be! This is what we need in our schools!

  • I would have loved to have him as a teacher. Has a sense of humor, but he also helps you learn and gives you work.

  • Apparently he also makes lots of coffee....then drinks it.....

  • stumbled from Jacksonville FL.

I bet everyone says "ohhhhh you got him?" "sorry dude." But im sure he is an awesome teacher.

  • This should be the motto for all teachers!

  • Hi =)

I recently made a still photo/moving picture about making a difference...

I would appreciate it if a few of you guys would come stop by and watch it and leave me comments/criticism.

    Thank you =)

    (Sorry for the spam...)

  • You're stupid and ignorant.

  • Stumbled DC...

I applaud!! I always have a hard time with both definitely and beautiful.

  • Excellent points and perspective. This man is an engine of change. Teachers are the mortar or our society - this is a great man. Wonderful, motivational speech.

  • You may not recognize it, but he's an AMAZING speaker. You may see it as a "jacked up Hulk Hogan," but he does a great job of communicating his point and connecting with the audience. Secondly, as a student, I see the students in the United States are failing (especially in SC); However, to the students that care and try, teachers are irreplaceable! Without some of the teachers I've had, I would be a completely different person. Teachers really DO make a difference. Fuck You.

  • @bicbriteliner I agree totally, some of the teachers in my lives have changed my lives. i can name them all. Mr proehl, Mr pohlamalu, Mrs edson, etc etc.

these people are important to me because of the lessons i picked up from them. not just in what they were teaching but in life. quit being a fuckin troll and listen to the message here. students arent failing because teachers arent important, students are failing for other reasons.

  • yea... us americans are so stupid we replaced our calculators with asians...

  • @ttiger5050 It's a common misconception that teachers get paid for time off. More often than not, they really don't. They can choose to receive 12 paychecks, and the money that makes up the extra checks is deducted from their months paid (usually 10 months: September through June). I can't speak to benefits because that depends heavily on which district you work for, but hey...

  • What do they say about lawyers :P

  • @martyschneider13

then go watch something else and stop bitching about it.

  • like lilly like wilson prolly my favorite this is shity quality and he does it alittle better

  • wow LOVE IT!!!

  • This teacher........Snapped.

  • @GeorgeGeo1980

Yes. You're goddamned right it was inspiring. To know teachers are still like this, still give a shit and still try to make the world better through the young minds they shape.

Teachers like this are the only reason anyone comes out of public education alive.

If you don't like it, go watch something else and stop fucking ruining it for everyone else.

  • The Title is actually called "What a Teacher Makes" by the amazing poet, Taylor Mali

  • The actual title of this is "What a Teacher Makes" The poet is Taylor Mali.

    He freaking rocks!

  • SO AMAZING.

  • AMEN! This is amazing.

  • This is entitled: What Teachers Make. It's a slam poem, and one of his most famous. Beautifully written, and easily my favorite of his.

  • It's a hard call for me. I really like "Speak With Conviction" too

  • I don't think he was referring to EVERY student that needs to go to the bathroom, in the video he was just generalizing or referring to students who ask so they can get out of class because they're bored. It should be common sense that he's not talking about students as a whole. Or not, whatever, I didn't really take offense to this. Plus, who wouldn't want an energetic teacher with a sense of humor?

  • wow shitfucks! that guy can surely define PWNAGE. he is a very good speaker.

  • @akrock47 Wow. I really hope this comment was intentionally written so poorly. It is not capitalized, PWNAGE is a term born of a slang term born of typo, and "very good speaker," I'll leave that one for the reader to figure out. As for shitfucks, I applaud you for the choice of word. Foul language has a purpose and place. It is the spice added to language that kicks you in the ass. I've been listening to this poem for nearly a decade, and I still feel the need to double-check this message.

  • @HandiCripple666 wow... you need to get out more.

  • i guess emotion is really just idiocy

  • Like SoulBane said, his profanities are used to express emotion. You should read up on the English language.

  • What kind of teacher do you like? The kind that print of work sheets and have a student grade them? The kind that are uninspiring and burnt out? Yeah...that sounds fun.

  • As a teacher, trust me, you get to know your students. You know which ones are going to ask because they are bored or want to get out of class.

  • lol what a jerk that guy must have been to ask a teacher if they make a difference teachers make more of a difference than any1 in the world becuase they are the ones who teach americas youth to be strong and help them to be smart
