I had the great fortune of studying with Cecil on a grant from the Nat'l. Endowment for the Arts in 1989. He is a wonderful guy and great teacher as well as being a master at his craft.
Mr McBee was my bass teacher in 1989-1990. I'll always remember my time in his apartment in NYC. What a kind man. I didn't know anything about playing bass but at the first lesson he told me we could be friends. I'll never forget how great he was. I no longer play, but I listen to him play all the time.
Mr McBee, if you read this - Thank You. I'm glad Billy Parker introduced us.
i was having a really bad 4th of july. I was in cecil mcbees combo at new school and didn't really pay much attention to anything he really said but i went to my guitar just now and it is a very helpful therapeutic tool. I wish i would have listened to him more.
I saw Cecil a few times in the 60s with Charles Lloyd at the Fillmore Aud in SF! Saw Liebman in Honolulu early 80s. He played only tenor and piano the whole night!
Cecil is agreat player. And also is an Army Veteran

I studied with Cecil and he was the most giving and beautiful
cat. I am humbled to have had the honor.
