The one thing that makes me question the authenticity of this video is the long distances, and the number of hand held mirrors - the beam is shone to the top of a building from several hundred metres away, but the mirror is always getting the light, even though a person holding the mirror would have caused it to wobble, which would have most likely caused it to miss the mirror at times,

Did Tom Tom Club get credit for the sample? It is CO2 that is used to make the ray more visible, not smoke. The ray is somewhat visible without it, due to various particles in the atmosphere, including moisture. Looks pretty real to me.
