I really don't believe that there will EVER be another president like Ronald Reagan. He lead America by a set of values that are not being seen in the current crop of presidential candidates. Reagan was a great leader, a great orator, and a true conservative, the likes of which we will probably not see again.

In Johnson, the Court found that a principal function of free speech is to invite dispute, which may create dissatisfaction and unrest. From this, the Supreme Court concluded that it would not be rational under First Amendment principles to limit freedom of expression based on the presumption that an audience which takes offense to certain statements may commit a disturbance of the peace.
The Supreme Court rulings on hate speech have left limited room for the government to protect against assaultive speech. While "fighting words" (or words that tend to incite an immediate breach of the peace) were initially labeled as speech that was not protected by the First Amendment,] subsequent cases have substantially narrowed this doctrine. The Supreme Court's current approach toward the "fighting words" doctrine is embodied by its decision in Texas v. Johnson.
In order to find a balanced solution to the unique problems that hate speech on the Internet creates, it is important to understand the existing structure of dealing with such issues. Flaws in Existing First Amendment Analysis
However, the global interconnection of numerous jurisdictions via the Internet makes existing state and federal laws (and even constitutions) less equipped to handle the threat of hate crimes. With existing laws becoming less significant with respect to problems in cyberspace, there is a push to revitalize or restructure present approaches in dealing with hate speech on the Internet.
For the families of the seven, we cannot bear, as you do, the full impact of this tragedy. But we feel the loss, and we're thinking about you so very much. Your loved ones were daring and brave, and they had that special grace, that special spirit that says, "Give me a challenge, and I'll meet it with joy." They had a hunger to explore the universe and discover its truths. They wished to serve, and they did. They served all of us.
The Internet has long been recognized as a true marketplace of ideas, in which people around the world are able to present, debate, and organize information. If recent decisions are any indication, online hate speech will continue to be examined under the traditional constitutional framework established to look at speech in other forms of the media.
After a barrage of complaints and a request from the FBI, several Internet companies who hosted the sites decided to shut them down. The public's reaction in addition to the FBI's involvement underscores the importance of further discussion of the need for hate speech regulation in cyberspace. The Supreme Court's decisions in this area indicate that the Court does not want to destroy the marketplace of ideas concept in which good and bad ideas are presented with the truth prevailing.
They as well as Reagan believed in live with out hate and with out being blind to the universe. You want to see who really tried to tease this tribute site down go back before my posts and read the filthy hate speech of the others. For the crew of challenger I do this
If recent developments surrounding the September 11th attacks are any indication, there may be situations when values and ideals are so offensive, and the threat of criminal conduct from adhering to these values so real, that regulation is needed. Azzam Publications, which is named after Dr. Sheikh Abdullah Azzam, a mentor of Osama bin Laden, has recently had several of its sites shut down.
I urge everyone seeing someone posting hate speech to Google department of homeland security and list who stated the hate speech along with which video it was posted. There is an anti-american boiler room operation which can been seen if you researched enough of the Reagan posting pages. Free speech is protected, hate speech is a crime that needs to be reported.
Based on the Supreme Court's interpretation of the First Amendment, the government's ability to protect would-be victims from hate speech has been limited. The First Amendment protects the rights of individuals to express their values and ideals even if they may offend others.
The First Amendment states, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
While new technologies can serve as great venues for public discourse, the issues of indecency, pornography, and hate speech raise significant concerns. In dealing with these problems, the First Amendment must be squarely addressed, since content regulation has traditionally been treated by courts as a First Amendment issue.
This fundamental conflict between the First and Fourteenth Amendments, coupled with the boundless capacity of the Internet, calls for an exploration of solutions that re-evaluate the expansive protection of hate speech in existing constitutional precedent. Until a more proper balance is established between the private interest in free expression and the interest of the state in preventing hate crimes, the current protections given to hate speech will continue to be subject to debate.
While the First Amendment guarantees a freedom of speech, no right is absolute if it infringes on other rights guaranteed under the Constitution. It has been suggested that hate speech is inconsistent with the principle of equality established by the Fourteenth Amendment. If the Fourteenth Amendment is to embody an antidiscrimination principle, then anything that supports and further perpetuates racial inequality should be regulated.
In Reno v. ACLU, the Court held that "the interest in encouraging freedom of expression in a democratic society outweighs any theoretical but unproven benefit of censorship. This approach has its detractors, however; former Vice President Al Gore, among others, has contended that the existing judicial and regulatory structures are no longer appropriate in the context of the hate speech issue.
The dangers regarding hate speech through the use of the Internet are evident. There is a fine line between the exchange of values and ideas and the perpetuation of hate in the form of degradation and violence. Despite this fine distinction, the Supreme Court has continued to protect online hate speech based on rights guaranteed under the First Amendment.
With the increasingly widespread use of the Internet, however, individuals and hate groups are able to promote hateful conduct and speech inexpensively and easily while simultaneously reinforcing each other's hateful convictions. The Internet also allows for the opportunity not only to post messages, but also to engage in conversation through chat rooms. Furthermore, the Internet has served as an important recruitment tool for these individuals and groups.
The features that make the Internet so unique have increasingly been manipulated to benefit the needs of those who spread hate-filled propaganda. Persons who display various kinds of hate are able to relay these feelings to others on newsgroups. Prior to the Internet, hate groups spread their propaganda through written materials, in a concerted effort to connect with others who shared the same beliefs.
"Prior to the Internet, hate groups spread their propaganda through written materials, in a concerted effort to connect with others who shared the same beliefs."
You forgot about the most important conveyance of meaning: voice. I think you're an idiot.
your welcome to believe what ever you like, your just not free to hate speech as you wish. thats the point of my meaning. Go bless yourself and have a great day brotehr
The Internet has been and will continue to be a medium that allows individuals to interact, research, and conduct business with ease and speed. The vast majority of Americans do not need regulations to provide standards of appropriate or inappropriate behavior in cyberspace. There remains a small percentage of individuals, however, who need some type of regulation to prevent them from infringing upon other rights that individuals hold so dear.
It will then examine how this structure limits the government's ability to regulate hate speech on the Internet. This section will also explore other legal means that are being used to regulate hate speech. Finally, it will conclude by taking a look at alternative techniques that are being used to protect individuals from hate speech. Examining the Problem: The Need for Additional Regulation of Hateful Cyberspeech
Secondly, hate-filled speech may go beyond simply altering an individual's thoughts and may in fact lead to crimes of death and destruction arising from the exposure to such ideas. This Comment will attempt to illustrate the need for increased regulation of hate speech on the Internet by examining three facets of this debate. It will first examine existing First Amendment precedent dealing with freedom of expression issues generally.
The danger of free speech in cyberspace crossing over to become language that perpetuates hatred and provokes violence is a very real threat. This threat manifests itself in two primary forms. First, young Internet users who may be easily influenced are exposed to hate-filled ideals and values, often without any regulation or guidance.
As the national security of the United States has become increasingly important in recent months, the debate regarding the censorship of hate speech has again arisen. While many individuals remain wary of infringing upon First Amendment rights through the regulation of hate speech in cyberspace, some suggest that the expansive and pervasive nature of the Internet calls for such regulation.
Americans have been forced to question whether hate-filled online rhetoric is simply the harmless exercise of free speech or is a preventable catalyst of illegal conduct. The death and destruction caused by terrorists who listened to and adopted anti-American views are reminders that speech can often spur dangerous actions in response.
The Internet, with its precision and speed, provides individuals with both access to information and the opportunity to reach listeners they otherwise would have been unable to reach without this medium. The Internet provides every user with the potential to become a publisher. This capability permits the content of this medium to be nearly as diverse as human thought itself.
Censoring Hate Speech In Cyberspace: A New Debate in a New America The emergence of the Internet has provided individuals with an increased ability to access information and news regarding a vast amount of topics. Reports suggest that "about half of the population has access somewhere, 42% of them in their homes, and another 10 to 15% elsewhere. In the United States alone, 79 million individuals use the Internet.
8 "I am the Al´pha and the O•me´ga," says Jehovah God, "the One who is and who was and who is coming, the Almighty."9 I John, YOUR brother and a sharer with YOU in the tribulation and kingdom and endurance in company with Jesus, came to be in the isle that is called Pat´mos for speaking about God and bearing witness to Jesus.
6 and he made us to be a kingdom, priests to his God and Father—yes, to him be the glory and the might forever. Amen.7 Look! He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, and those who pierced him; and all the tribes of the earth will beat themselves in grief because of him. Yes, Amen.
4 John to the seven congregations that are in the [district of] Asia: May YOU have undeserved kindness and peace from "The One who is and who was and who is coming," and from the seven spirits that are before his throne, 5 and from Jesus Christ, "the Faithful Witness," "The firstborn from the dead," and "The Ruler of the kings of the earth."To him that loves us and that loosed us from our sins by means of his own blood—
1 A revelation by Jesus Christ, which God gave him, to show his slaves the things that must shortly take place. And he sent forth his angel and presented [it] in signs through him to his slave John, 2 who bore witness to the word God gave and to the witness Jesus Christ gave, even to all the things he saw. 3 Happy is he who reads aloud and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and who observe the things written in it; for the appointed time is near.
FuckReagan, hold on I`m still laughing at ur comment! Carter was the greatest president ever??? Wat ru smoking cause I need some! Ask the hostages who were held captive for 2yrs while Carter did NOTHING if he was a great president? If he was that great why did he get his ass kicked by over 7 million votes?
so you go to every vid on reagan and post good things about him, lest someone read a bad comment on your favorite person and then theyre on the road to being a commie? terribly pathetic and sad of you. i guess you think people cant think for themselves. youre an elitist, obscurantist scumbag for doing such a thing.
if it was george W bush talking he wont know what to say , i never voted for him by the way and i didnt like him since he took over the office . hes the worst president in the history of our great nation!!!!
Ronald Reagan was the last leader under who's watch I remember being truly proud of being an American because he lived his terms in office as "we the people" would like to believe we all have the potential of acting in good times and in bad. God bless you and rest in peace Mr. President
I just turned old enough to vote when he ran and I never regretted that vote. I would have voted for Kennedy had I been able, the quality these two men above so many who ever held office is they lead not only with a moral compass, but that it pointed to God for their direction. While man was never made to rule himself there are shining examples of how nearly we can get to greatness in following truth and justice when we walk towards it.
Reagan was a very sensitive person, political leaders usually don't give a damn for normal people who die for a good cause. Up with Reagan, his teachings and his achievements!
reagan is the last president to love america and cherish freedom. his speeches are so great because he spoke from the heart. he believed in what he said. he is a great american, not these other guys.
Wonderful speech. Don't care who wrote it. Breaks me up every time I hear it. When hard times come you will all appreciate the sentiment behind it. 'To slip the surly bonds of earth and touch the face of God'.RIP Valerie, Mike, Deborah, Liz.
All polititians are so fake, they never write their own speeches. But I think Reagan might have written the last line because it was an old sign off from radio, and he used to be an actor back then.
I've read Celine and I've read Miller...and I have had enough of cynism...why should anyone read this book? to find out that Reagan wasn't perfect? what a shock, no one is.
no, that was a different video. the one Im talking about starts out with Nancy Reagan sitting on Mr. T.'s lap, then the next scene she has lost her laundry and is on her knees giving Mr. T. a deep throat blowjob.
Say what you want, but I remember that day. I remember watching it in school, and I remember teachers and school kids alike crying their eyes out. Politics aside, Reagan helped console us. And the whole episode reminds me a bit of our once shared national unity. I don't think anything could unite us like that today...and it's sad. It sad that people are so divided and segrated these days.
There is a lot of evidence, and I have posted it. Come on over to my page and see it. Ronnie gave a good speech; big deal, he is an actor, what do you expect.
John Magee poem quote to end that speech made it classic. I, also...was a young lad when the challenger disaster happened...and that speech also helped make Reagan a favorite President of mine. I still can't believe how much I cried during coverage of his funeral in '04.
It was the Will Of Allah that Scum Reagan spend eternity in Hell getting anally raped by a demon wearing a spike and razor studded dildo. YI YI YI YI YI YI YI!!!
I think this was the most memorable and eloquent presidential speech I have ever heard in my lifetime. I remember seeing it on television vividly as a kid. Even then it made an impression on me.
This is one of the greatest speeches I ever heard. Say what you will about the man, but he was an excellent writer. He knew just what to say to touch your heart. I was just a kid when the Challenger explosion occurred and even upon hearing this speech at that young age I felt the power of it. Even now, it still has the same effect.

Reagan, like most presidents did not write his own speeches. Instead, he relied upon GOP true-believer Peggy Noonan to make him seem like he gave a shit about average people
There is a lot of evidence that the Reagan White House pressured NASA to launch the Challenger despite serious safety concerns. The engineers at NASA were saying no, but management would not listen. The disaster did not have to happen, and it was probably Mr. Reagan's fault.
You should be ashamed of yourself. NASA makes the same complaint about every administration. The risks that morning did not appear greater than usual. They are not at 'fault', in the ethical sense you use the word, and neither is the Reagan administration. Your comments are irresponsible and ignorant.
And I say that you are the one who needs to check your facts. There's an engineer at NASA who, just after the launch, said, "We just dodged a bullet", which, they, of course, did not. Engineering, without exception, was recommending not to launch, for reasons which were obvious. Management made it clear that they weren't interested in hearing about it. They had already been "pushing the envelope", and, unfortunately, this taught them the wrong lesson, that they could keep doing so.
"... and it was probably Mr. Reagan's fault". Then you state (NASA) management made the decision to launch - it doesn't support your accusation against the President. It points the finget at management. The reasons were obvious, you say, but the Challenger was launched, so it wasn't that obvious. We agree it was a horrible tragedy that's part of our national memory. But let's not make irresponsible comments like "it was probably Mr. Reagan's fault". If it's probable, put up some evidence.
You're pretty typical of folks who like to use euphemisms like "...There is a lot of evidence that the Reagan White House pressured NASA...it was probably Mr. Reagan's fault..." Gutless wannabes who never were.
I have never commented on a video before. But I felt the need to do so on this one. Never in my life have I heard a speech to that extreme. God was truly holding his hand as he wrote every word. I was born at almost the exact time on that January 28 1986 morning. And will forever take time to remember these incredible people as I celebrate another year of my life, and their great commitment! God Bless America!!!
at least i am not forsing , everyone to think as i do through killing their families . you know nothing , just a bitter individual . by the way that was your dad behind the ron mask ! enjoy your freedom asshole
What was Mohamhead? A pedophile who loved to get it on with 9 year olds. Thats the guy you worship so your lower then him your like the sweat on his scroutem. I heard that the reason muslims pray 5 times a day was because Mohamhead like to put his ball sack on the back of the neck of his followers. then. Then he made them say "Mohamhead akbar".
This is supposed to be a tribute to those who died on Challenger. If you want to argue about Mohammed, then please set up another group in which to do so.
No president writes his speaches AhmedBahzzi but u can`t fake emotion and when reagan met with the families of the Challenger we saw compassion, and the type of human being he was. U don`t have to agree with his policies but he respected everyone, even those u didn`t agree with him. Unfortunality we don`t see that anymore.
reagan himself did write this speech his speechwriters would write speeches but reagan always had the final word and would change them if he wished. he was a great communicator, a great president, and like most from that generation a great man. my mom met him when the remains of her brother were brought home from vietnam in the early eighties. a week later he called my mom to ask how she was. he even spoke to me briefly telling me to do good in school. that is an honor i will never forget.thanks
Nice speech but, some of you people are delusional Reagan was a horrible president.

This fundamental conflict between the First and Fourteenth Amendments, coupled with the boundless capacity of the Internet, calls for an exploration of solutions that re-evaluate the expansive protection of hate speech in existing constitutional precedent.

There is a lot of evidence that the Reagan White House pressured NASA to launch the Challenger despite serious safety concerns. The engineers at NASA were saying no, but management would not listen. The disaster did not have to happen, and it was probably Mr. Reagan's fault.
iamdeprogram 5 years ago
You should be ashamed of yourself. NASA makes the same complaint about every administration. The risks that morning did not appear greater than usual. They are not at 'fault', in the ethical sense you use the word, and neither is the Reagan administration. Your comments are irresponsible and ignorant.
BullockOnline 5 years ago
And I say that you are the one who needs to check your facts. There's an engineer at NASA who, just after the launch, said, "We just dodged a bullet", which, they, of course, did not. Engineering, without exception, was recommending not to launch, for reasons which were obvious. Management made it clear that they weren't interested in hearing about it. They had already been "pushing the envelope", and, unfortunately, this taught them the wrong lesson, that they could keep doing so.
iamdeprogram 5 years ago
"... and it was probably Mr.
BullockOnline 5 years ago
