@dattebayo04 they speak japanese in his country in the japanese version...this is obv german, or extremely influenced by it. Look at the military uniform, the fact that they call their leader a FUHRER(do any other countries refer to their leaders as fuhrers?)..the predjudice in their society..all characteristic of the german empire way back in the day..

I definitely think the English version of this anime is better.. the setting is in Germany after all and this is like watching German ppl chattering away in Japanese....But usually the japanese version of animes is way better. Not for this one tho, cultural and language are clashing

@Buradori0 not really, because the characters look like white europeans and japanese aren't white europeans. appearance wise If a German person talked fluent english, you couldn't tell 100% if he is german, he might be from britian or australia etc...but if a Japanese person came up to you and speaks fluent english, you still automatically know he is asian, its not like, wow he is canadian! i guess i meant to say, ethnicity and language clashing but meh..who cares cuz its such an awesome show Xd

@DARR0Y They're English Europeons not German. That's why they have English names and they read in write in throughout the anime. Ed even ended up in London after he crossed in the parallel world.

@Dattebayo04 It's based in the equivalent of Germany,the names are twisted to sound English and not all of them are made to have european names, but names like Hohenheim, Elrich etc,are German.In the parallel world Hohenheim and Ed are scientists developing rockets for the Allies apparently...In the real world, German scientist such as Werner von Braun and Albert Einstein came to the Allies and were the ones who helped them create these technologies before the Nazis did.

@Dattebayo04 also, if you watched conquerer of shamballa, they give it away..There is a scene (actually several i believe) where the evil blonde lady's and her cult are saying some weird incantations/spells in German. I can't remember what the spells said but it was german language...theres also a new movie coming out, not sure if it already was released but, it is based in Nazi Germany

@DARR0Y Yes but that was in the movie. They don't speak German in Ed's country. They speak English, even the author said she based it off 20th century England but added her own flavor. Ed originally entered London when he crossed the gate. He moved to Germany to study rockets so he could find a way to get back to his world. Now for the ppl you confronted I must say, if you can't even notice that FMA takes place in Europe then.... I noticed that just by seeing the trailer. And I was 11.But yeah
