  • i love you ... you saved my life for the itgs project

  • just dump it in the ocean, its cheaper

  • @CryptWarrior69 true that who cares about pollution world will end within 10 year anyways

  • So is E-waste becoming a more serious problem compared to household/food waste now (which is already a big problem)???

  • So is E-waste becoming a more serious problem compared to household/food waste now (which is already a big problem)???

  • So why don't people use the electronic products they bought with their hard earned money as long as possible? More money could be saved for more important things such as food, houses, cars or even renewable energy investment. More 'educated' people need to learn the true meaning of 3 Rs most importantly RECYCLE instead of throwing everything to landfills...... Learn to be responsible to our own kind (humans), apart from the environment...........

  • things you can do: slow down! i know it's tough to STOP buying smart phones and laptops but anyone can put it off for another 6 months. the computer i'm writing this on was bought during the dubya years. the one i had before that was bought in the bubba years. yeah, i'm ghetto but i'm saving money. i'd rather have it in an index fund rather than some 3rd world dumpster killing children.

  • whats the song called ?

  • 1:10 Natural cobalt isn't radioactive.

  • GOVERNMENTS should be the 1 who should start taking the 1st step to work out with all the manufacturers for solutions to have the waste properly recycled. No parties should just made money and forget about the waste that they invented/created in the 1st place. Typical GOVERNMENTS always pushes all their waste to the poor at a very low cost, making them even poorer to do the jobs.

  • thank you... you just saved my life for my internal !!!

  • If the we give electronics back to the companies, how will we know they are actually being recycled properly?

  • @Melanie5Mel Check online, companies basically brag if they do, which for us i guess is a good thing.

  • How about we stop being so consumerist and keep our computers longer? Try to fix them? Upgrade them?

  • We have developed an innovative approach to e-waste that tackles three problems at once. Re-Use of old PCs and UBUNTU to empower the less fortunate - TEDxCreativeCoast - Murray Wilson - eWaste and the Social Landfill

  • i heard this music in a how it's made video

  • pretty sure my computer tech sent my discarded computer to africa since he charged me nothing for taking it. But ya know what?? I DON'T care!! fucking scamming bastards in africa stole me blind before.

  • why do any thing thin thoes chinks out a bit

  • Thank you, at last a "environmental" video that doesn't look nerd. It's good , clear and modern. Thanks for this amazing Job.

  • You very quickly judged me as a 'moral relativist'.

We should try to be moral because being one hundred percent moral, it seems to me, is an ideal.

Also, the way society is set up at the moment is not geared towards re-use. It's geared towards consumerism. We have people greed to thank for that, but also capitalism. Not that I really have a problem with capatalism. It's peoples attitude towards it that need to change. But it won't change over night so, we have to try, untill we get it right.

  • This is well meaning, but sorry, it is crap. The problem is that 3B3K (3 billion people earning approximately $3k per year) are getting onto the internet at a pace 10 times faster than growth in the developed world. Newsflash, they are not buying new computers. Like the penetration of auto use in the USA, when farmers bought two broken cars (one a parts car), and the secondary market grew to 7 times the money of the new car market, the same dynamic is occurring overseas.

  • @retroworks1

    I don't understand you point.

Are you saying that there is a huge market in used computers due to people earning $3k a year or less are buying them?

  • The very very poorest people, with no electricity, would be burning these for copper. But you don't see containerloads heading to Haiti or Congo. They are going to rapidly developing countries (China, Malaysia, Indonesia) which have capacity to repair and reuse them. That is because people earning about $3k per year are getting online in droves, but cannot afford $500 computers. Techies in the developing countries buy them and fix them. "Prohibition" on exports ignores this.

  • Planned obsolescence is one of the main problems. Companies like apple design Ipods to last certain amount of time, specially batteries so that you have no choice to buy a new one and dispose the old one

  • ...or you can save money and ghetto rig yerr shit when it breaks :)

  • @pipomenas This is the main reason why i h8 apple. Finally, someone who can explain it right!

  • @pipomenas Thats why a products witouth a replacabe battery are illegal to sell

  • It's insane that we are still facing a problem like this.

  • brilliant little animation

  • One new computer per decade is actually enough.

  • I advise also to use Linux :)

  • That's true, Vista was a living nightmare for the enviroment!

  • how about we pay people to get a good education in fixing computers instead of building new ones? maybe it'll work. even if we have to recycle certain pieces of the computer, we would be throwing away alot less than the whole thing altogether. we don't always have to have high tech stuff. at least the things we have now still works. i think americans need to learn how to conserve equipment and materials instead of throwing away everything. also, these goodmagazine videos make me depressed.

  • that IS what they do sometimes in REAL recycling (at least takin' out the parts that work!)

  • Americans are pigs... in every world empire ppl are pigs..thats the world they eat 50% of the world res..and when the contrey calapses the next one will take its place :) sad bud trye :D

  • @deeher10 fuck that, who wants a out of date PC

  • @ImSuchaGamer some guy who has an older PC

  • @deeher10 because old pieces of computers become outdated.....you cant take parts from the first apple to run your pc now. The pieces are highly specialized

  • @deeher10 Even though i completely agree with you. The logic that most people have is if the cost of repairing a computer is close to the price of a new on why not just buy a new one. the same with any other electronics. Most repairs are expensive because people who fix computers often charge more than what the labor should be.

  • @deeher10 Not just Americans, but the whole world. Seriously, people should stop playing the blame game and take a good look at themselves for once.

  • Does anyone know where i can get the song from the video???

  • why don t they just give old electronics to poor people in poor countries???? way better than destroyng them

  • no power.

  • theres a couple things wrong with just giving them to poor countries.

first, the reason most of them are being thrown away in the first place is because they're broken.

second, what happens when the poor countries want to dispose of the old electronics? they're either going to sit in a landfill for a near-eternity, or they'll be shipped to china to be "recycled", exactly like this video shows.

  • because they have no electricity

  • This is a great video. All Green Electronics Recycling offers e-waste recycling nationwide and we do not export. This is an issue that should concern everyone. Thank you for posting this.

  • Mercury .. isn't bad.. it's the stuff in almost ALL vaccinations for disease barium Chromium Beryllium can't be to bad either.. it's the stuff in the Airplane contrails that don't dissipate aka. Chem Trails and since the government controls both of the above areas, then these things CAN'T be bad for us, or the environment.... for anyone about to flame me.. all of the above was sarcasm this was another great piece done by GOOD valid, relevant, and important stuff to think about Peace :):)
  • very informative video also nice design if anyone needs information about recycling e waste you can visit my youtube page for my company offers recycling service

  • i have a 13 year old used compaq deskpro en series desktop with a used 17" CRT monitor. Probably, one of YOU trashed it and it came to pakistan and its price is about 19$

  • Let's just keep all the electronics in big rooms for years and years until we have nano machines that can crawl all over it and use the junk to assemble their bodies and thus create a new race!

  • not unless theyll make sexy fembots

  • "Take yours to responsible recyclers who don't export"... "The US refuses to ban the export.." Look, this is like the 1980s "boycott coffee to help coffee farmers" idea. There are incredibly good and efficient recycling companies overseas. The economy is driven by reuse and repair, not burning plastic. Boycotting trade will work about as well as prohibition, abortion bans, and coffee boycotts. Fair Trade is a better idea... trade (export) more and negotiate better conditions.

  • It is estimates that in 2020 all new products will be obsolete with in 2 weeks if today's rate continues. So just think about that when you throw away your computer.

  • anybody knows the title of the song?thanks

  • I don't understand why the US of A couldn't take a lesson from Europe's WEEE act.

Keep on truckin' at 20 MPG, you fucking yanks... to the nearest circuit city to obtain MORE useless shit.

How about keeping your phone more than 4 months? Shit mine is 7 years old! Most people don't have cars that old.

The best way to recycle is to CYCLE!

  • Thats true man... Alot of products on the market will usually become obsolete whe the next new craze comes out. But the problem with trying to recycle or reduce pollution and waste is that it takes a unified Collective Effort. Not everyone is in the same financial situation to sacrifice so many oppurtunity's in the name of going "Green".. It's like how poor people can't afford to buy Healthy Diet Food, which are more expensive

  • I agree, but i think that the problem with obsolete products is the fact that it's a benefit for sellers. Thats the only way they can keep us spending money on their products. Pollution or trash are just economically affordable consequences for these commercial organizations.

  • because it's our environmental and labor protections that are putting us economically behind China and India. to make that work, you have to make even MORE laws (protectionism). Then one day, you wonder how your "progressive" ideals lead you to be a poor communist....i'm sure you Euros will just blame Bush for it. The capitalist free market is THE system of free peoples...everything else is a slippery slope to subjugation. Oh...and my car gets over 50MPG, but thanks for generalizing.

  • OK so let's just trash this planet then, for a quick buck.

LESS BUYING OF USELESS SHIT,MORE USE OF OLD! The only reason we buy is because we're idiotic consumers.

Also, if you're getting 50 MPG, likely it's a hybrid. Do a little research on how the battery pack is created, from scratch. You'll discover that the 50 MPG is a very selfish endeavour, one that overlooks the grander scheme of things. I get 25 MPG but my car is 23 years old. Do you know how much energy is required to "recycle" a car?

  • Your 23 year old car IS showing wear between the cylinder walls and the piston rings, so less compression and incomplete burning. Your car burns more oil, and releases more unburned fuel into the air.

I got bad news for you: it doesn't matter how much stuff you DON'T BUY. The population will continue to grow until everything falls apart.

Do you plan to go back to an agrarian lifestyle when everyone stops buying to use old? More bad news: your liberal ideals won't fly in an agrarian society.

  • Then I change societies: I don't have to be here. I know enough languages to get around just about anywhere.

Also, after I did my valve stem seals and changed to a more efficient head, I checked the piston clearance while I was at it: Compression on a dated 4G63 was about 150 across. Cost to me was $8 for the stem seals: The head was given to me by someone doing a DOHC conversion.

I was curious to see how it ran, so I e-tested it: HC and CO were on the lower range of the limits...

  • @jbgandhi2

You're a douche bag. Someone who sees sense and calls it liberal so you don't have to listen and can carry on being selfish, close minded and just a little bit retarded.

'Your 23 year old car IS showing wear between the cylinder walls and the piston rings, so less compression and incomplete burning'. There's ways of fixing that problem without buying a new car. Your missing the point.

Bush was a fucking idiot. Chainy was a cunt.

I referback to my original point, you're a Douche bag.

  • As a real conservative, I was no fan of Bush. The "neo-conservative" movement came out of the democratic socialist sphere.

What's wrong with being selfish? Independent parties, trading goods and services for their own benefit is how value is built. Everything else is just and attempt to manipulate the natural system and cannot be done without one or more parties surrendering their right to property.

What if we just recycled the junk cars? Uh oh, the free market already does that.

  • The only reason people are nice to others is becasue it makes themselves feel good. I've got no problem with being selfish when you use that seflishness wisely.

When being selfish results in the often fatal contamination of nature and humans alike then you know you've got it wrong.

The capitalist free market is THE system of free peoples who don't care that the result is as shameful as any terorist attack.

Over population will fuck us up, you're right, but we should try and be moral till then

  • @Kimoki313 what you are talking about is the externalization of costs. When disposal of a product is socialized (dumped on the public sector), then the free market is manipulated: landfills are a form of socialism and communalism. If there were no landfills, you would have to deal with your own wastes. This would impact your purchasing decisions: so the cost is now privatized: laptop should cost = purchase price + disposal price.

and since when do moral relativists say "try and be moral"?

  • Do you like Capitalism?

  • shouldn't 1:16 also read that other countries should ban imports of E-Waste?

  • Thank you for creating this video!

The Silicon Valley Toxics Coalition is also working on ending the e-waste disaster and is working to get companies to make cleaner, safer, products.

Visit svtc [dot] org to find out more about what we do and how you can help!

  • um did anyone notice they placed Cobalt as radioactive? there is a radioactive cobalt but it isnt used in computers.

  • What does religion have to do with E-Waste, it's completely irreveant the fact of the matter is we need to do something to prevent ewaste and quickly!

  • burning people? I thought christians had given up on that 2 centuries ago and what's with the cannibalism

  • why are people throwing old pc's out. i am using old p2's and p3's as routers and firewalls. and i still use an old 486 for old dos games for fun. and i keep my p4's working with spare parts from other computers i have.

  • most of the computers we get are from companies who are upgrading their systems. it's easier for them to dump the old stuff on us than it is to try to use or sell it.

  • A question I would have would be, have either of the remaining Dem candidates spoken about this issue? And if so, what are their positions? Secondly if they haven't, then isn't this a time to get them to answer about this?

It goes without saying that the Republican candidate won't be able to care less about this.

  • I strongly agree with you

  • no offense, but it could be true there are much more pressing issues facing the next president. Id prefer a president who would care less

  • EPA is bullshit. Who else besides Basel Action Network?

  • i just listen to this over and over again for the song

    IT ROCKS

  • I think whatever the reason, its good to watch it.

  • i always sell my junks to retailers... GOOD FTW

  • They misspelt arsenic

  • could u send me the original video?

  • wow oh my word

  • asset-recoveryservices dot com for MA folks concerned about ewaste recycling , can such business models be exported to China ?

  • Next clip with Johnny Hallyday Mon Fils Live. Then you have a superclip.

  • In Britain people are educated about these things, and the media is not completely in control, though it has way too much power. America is the largest contributer to global warming, and does not have a free health service. America needs to open up to other opinions and stop thinking its the most ethical and "goody-two shoes" society in the world, when actually most of Europe and Parts of Asia and even Africa are have better democratic governments

  • just to let you know simpry, Europe contributes more e waste then the US. And they do not recycle like you think. They ship it to the far east. Think before you talk

  • wow this video has really affected me strongly. I'm not going to lie...i love my technology but I'm going to definately think differently next time about how i get rid of the old stuff.

  • Welcome to Planet Earth

  • I hate all this stupid fucking spam! Just mark them as spam thats what its there for!

  • we need to save our waste cause we can use that stuff. All those computers and electronic wirers and mechanism are needed to make what we want so we can use it right now in our homes when things break and not throwe them away. Computer casings can be usedc too. God has blessed us with alot and will keep blessing us but we have to help ourselves. The company's do create jobs so its all good.

  • Using the "support industry" argument is just a scarecrow argument, used by people with screwed up minds (that's why they become fundamentalists, a disgrace to their religion).

Nobody is against industry, but for more environmentally conscious ones. Anyone who says otherwise is just plain missing the point.

  • The actual bottom line is that pollution from E-waste is real, not a lie. It is the egoistic, self-centred, over-consuming, religously-pretentious idiots who abuse the name of the Bible to pollute, THAT's where the real problem is.

  • The bottom line is that this video is a lie. Taken out of context to hurt big business and cause fear and create liberal burocasies to deal with so called "pollution". Those kids in the video didn't look sick. Thats because they are NOT sick. I'm sure you wonder if I would have my kids do that work. Yes, I would if they weren't in school. My kids have strong lungs. Liberals have weak lungs. Stop lying to the public and support industry for a change. Industry creates jobs.

  • If america could stop being so greedy then maybe the world wouldn't be destroyed by humans. The problem with americans is that they take the word of "god" as their only law. This is not a lie, Christianity is a lie.

  • I don't see where you are getting this from.. I am a Christian, and I support this idea. I assure you that the Bible has the answer for every question you could ever ask. I can also assure you that God's plan is perfect, and not a single living thing knows any better. Where do you get the idea that the Bible supports polluting of foreign people and land?!?

  • dude no one wants 2 hear about ur fucking religion.. u ass wipe.. this isn't about religion its about electronics, and the waste they make

  • Don't start talking about your religon, go pollute some other bible!!Falkon212, your an anti-Christ!!! (yea, I can change the subject too!!)

  • Im sorry, I dont really hate Christians, but I got a tiny winy winy bit carried away replying to someone who did think God was an excuse for polluting the earth, no offence and I actually agree with you very much as it says somewhere in genesis that says you should be the earths steward.

  • For one, the bible is a waste of paper. Quit killing the planet. Second, it answers every question in total nonsense. It's answer to how man got here was I AM GOD I MAKE THESE 2 THINGS ON EARTH MAGICALLY THEY SPAWN AND MAKE THE WORLD WITH MORE, so therefor, by the bibles standards, everyone is committing incest because EVERYONE is related, and incest is against any religion widely practiced in the USA. Furthermore, science actually has proof, and evolution is real.

  • Incest was not unlawful until Moses. Evolution has, for some reason, become an ambiguous term that is bait and switching theories into facts for children. When the science proves the Bible wrong, let me know. No flames, please.

  • You can't prove a negative, you fish head.

It's about as hard as proving Santa Clause doesn't exist.

*Set DVR to; Record All Episodes: Discovery Channel.

  • Ummmm... I belive your all wrong... I'm Christian and I belive in Evolution, Santa Clause can be easily proven fake, Evolution has proof, and so does the Bible but not as much... Its just that Science will never prove the Bible wrong because people will refuse to accept it, they want to belive what they want to belive! I'm not trying to change you, just telling you my opinion... For goodness sake the reason I'm saying this is because people die from religion than any other reason on earth.

  • mttviper, quit being a jerk. Bible isn't a waste of paper.

You wipe your butt with toliet paper, yet your mouth talk like one.

  • I get use out of toilet paper.

The bible is just a book full of bullshit and lies, therefor a waste of paper.

  • I AGREE

  • your right its not a waste seeing as theres been so many wars and oppresion of wemon its doing exactly what its sposed to do brainwash the weak minded and comfort the fluffy little sheep like you ...................bahh bahh bah you damn sheep

  • What are you going to do?

Take it in your backyard or live like an Amish? In this case, you decided to ship it out of the country which is not the third choice but it is an honest realistic truth that people forced to choose.

  • anyone got the name of this song?

  • WTF???

  • Y'all are good folks. I Love Y'all.

  • Amen!

  • Truthfully speaking, America's has a Republic system of government rather than a democratic one. (not just saying that because they have a republican party in control :X )

  • You know nothing about the Republican party. As a Republican and a Christian we do not support these "environmental" or "pollution" or "global warming" myths because they are not proven and go against the teachings of the Bible and liberal businesses fund the liberal agenda of homosex, art, "science", womens/black rights, etc.

  • i didn't say i did know anything about the republican party.

and on a few notes: pollution and global warming aren't myths, pollution is caused by evaporated and carbonised plastic gasses escaping into the atmosphere and global warming is mainly caused by pollution escaping into the stratosphere and trapping the sun's light and heat (otherwise, more would escape into the space). Also, being racist, sexist, and having prejudice is not a good thing ;)

  • First of all, its not "racism" or "sexism" its the BIBLE. You should read it. Second, pollution is a liberal lie created to support liberal businesses like solar power, environmentalism, etc. It is not proven to harm anybody. Third, from everything you said, you still know nothing about the Republican party. You think you can "save the world" through pollution control? Think again. Only GOD can do that. And you don't have God only liberal "science".

  • i did read it, it's the thing that put me off christianity.

1st: Where in the bible does it say you have to be an arse-hole to everyone different from you?

2nd: If pollution was liberal propaganda, why would it be such a world-wide issue when the liberals aren't world-wide? when you burn stuff, the gasses created don't just disappear.

    (continued)

  • (continued)

3rd: for the 2nd time, i never bloody said i knew anything about the republican party. And you may not be able to save the world from everything via pollution control, but atleast you can save it from pollution via pollution control. Make sense?

  • 4th: In Christianity, humans are supposed to be assigned to take care of the planet and all it's denizens. How can we do that when people like you keep saying god's gonna do everything for us? I'm agnostic, but i know that if there is a god(s), s\he\they wouldn't want to have to do everything for us and cleaning up after us.

  • exactly, but too many people who read the bible use it as a way to live their lives, ignoring all reason and logic, but it even says in the bible, after ignoring all the sexist, racist, and outdated beliefs, that you should be a steward of the world, sorry, i dont know the exact quotation

  • will the reatilers accept the obsolete comp? i think they would rather not coz it will be hard for them to dump those things...

  • In some countries, it's policy they have to. But mostly, it's because the comp comes with some pretty expensive parts in it. The cost of recycling the plastic is usually less than buying new silicone and gold or other valuable parts that can be salvaged from a computer that's obsolete, as opposed to severely damaged.

  • wow thats i watch something educational but how i get here from solja boy?

  • funny ame thing happened to me

  • I didn't know you could take your electronics back to the retailers and they'll recycle it for you, but I feel like I should have known that.

  • The manufacturers should make goods more re-usable and/or easier to dis-assemble. They should then instruct recyclers in all countries how to properly dispose of the parts. It would save money and the environment.

Also, if you have old computers and parts in drawers, garages, sheds etc. I would recommend donating them to a computer charity.

  • The problem is you need to pay for the recycling as a customer, so everyone just throws it away because it's cheaper, right?

So why dont we get discount on the kind of product we recycle, like computers, if we recycle it we get like 10% discount?

Much easier, i would'nt blame the people dumping it, i would blame the government/companies who let the customer pay for the recycling, they're asking for this kinda shit in the world!

  • Wow, I never knew that this kind of activity was going on until now. But this is what happens when there are people who are too selfish when it comes to the environmental and human impacts of recycling.

  • Great vid :)

  • everything cheap in china lol

  • If by "we" you mean the corporations that profited off the war and initiated it, then yes. If you mean the majority of the population that is against it, or the the Iraqis we were supposedly liberating, then no.

  • haha

  • As for the reduction of toxins in computer components, it is quite possible that these elements are needed for the tech to work at all.

  • sid And NAncy 2007

    <------

  • ok then

  • We play the newest video games, while other countries live with our garbage. What about NOT BUYING NEW TECH UNLESS YOU REALLY NEED IT?

  • nice...so humans will be killed by ourselves...sweet future who want to join us? i dont ....

  • The solution is quite simple. Consumers pay for the cost of recycling, but it'll be hard on the politicians. How can you do it? Implement communism, hahahhaahha

  • ♥ Video: "Animals in the City Mallorca"

  • I ignored the message of the video and simply danced to the music.

  • Typical moron.

  • I completely ignored the message of the video and simply danced to the music.

  • Featuring your own video is lame.
