"I'm absolutely convinced that some day, when people have ears to hear [Nico] in the same way that people have eyes to see a van Gogh now, that people are just gonna go, 'WHOOOAAA!'"
This reminds me of something like a less virtuosic, but more soulful, Diamanda Galas. Love it. Love it. Whereas Diamanda is a more in control artist, this is just like, total tragedy, very sad and beautiful. Sounds like the voice of the goddess of death.
So sad to think she died the following year. Right before her death, Nico had planned to do the following: record a final studio album, then buy a boat and sail across the oceans with her son Ari and write books and poems with him. She was also beginning to work on an autobiography by then.
Yes, it is his autobiography but he does write quite a lot about his mother, mostly in the form of various anecdotes. She was a very spiritual and sensitive person and was always travelling all over the world. He does speak about her death too, which has been particularly devastating for him. I think he really paints a much more human portrait of her rather than all those rumours that have been told in the past.
Bella Nico...mora poi era ancor più fascinosa...che artista meravigliosa che era! Mi dispiace troppo non averti visto dal vivo...sono sempre più convinta di aver sbagliato l'anno in cui dovevo nascere...
All of her songs, regardless of their arrangement on the records, always sound so much better when does them solo on harmonium. I wish there were more recordings of her early concerts around. Or that she had done more solo shows in the 80s.
i love her sooooo much,i was in concrt in Athens,with Poulikako on stage....1987

@onehundredfigurehead
I read that in Ari's book, "L'amour n'oublie jamais."

@alfonsodavinti That's really cool to hear. Does Ari reveal anything else about his mother, like how she was as a person and that kind of thing?
