The Soviets wouldn't have been killing anyone without the money and weapons and intelligence that the United States gave them. The Russians did indeed do the majority of the fighting, but fighting is the easy part. It's getting into a position to be able to fight that's hard, and without the US, the USSR would have continued to retreat. The US made possible their offensive.
