I've made one comment months ago and I'll make another one on May 20, 2011. I guess right now is as good as ever. If I didn't like this r&r goody I wouldn't of made two comments...this one the second of two. Thx4 postin this Lover Doll, I believe I like it better than that Surfin Doll by Kathy Brandon. Hey, I do love that Surfin Doll too, and what's nice to know Kathy was nobody big but she was local and she was a Canadian!
Rockabilly is all new to me, it wasn't played around this corner of the world back when mainstream was the only format. I'm surprized of the large number of Rockabilly hits I have put into my favorites for easy pickings. I enjoy many of them more than I get off on that mainstream r&r I grew up with in highschool.......by the way I'm more an Elvis fan now that I'm older but I'd still rather listen to my Rockabilly favorites like this one, than Elvis & his Hound Dog!!!. Thx4 postin'
If you like this, check out LOVER DOLL check out the acappella one they did,
it's on youtube. Waiting for more acappella from them DANCE GIRL, RAINY DAY BELLS and oyhers. Great group, if you have this stuff you should put in up here.
Seems like they were a biracial group just like the DEL VIKINGS and were at their pinacle around the same time as the Del Vikings...I like all of their hits thanks!!!!!
thank-You for posting-This !!! ... I have had a Difficult Time finding Any Records by Norman Fox / the RobRoys , Other-than "tell Me why" (BackBeat) + "Pizza Pie" (Capitol) !!!
Actually I have their vinyl LP. I should have a Norman Fox night!
In Fact, somewhere around my house I have them on a radio show being interweiwed by the DJ & singing many of theur tunes in accapella. I have to track it down.
I didn't even-know that the RobRoys ever had An Album released !!! ... was It on Capitol Records ??? ... or BackBeat/Duke/Peacock ??? ... or a "Re-Issue Label" ???
It was an 80s reissue. To the best of my knowledge they never released their own LP. I'll have to look for it to see who released it, it was like a Crystal Ball issue. Can you imagine having the only CAPITOL released LP, what it would be worth. I really need to spend a few long days to get all my records back in order, posting on YT & selling on ebay in the past has really messed me up big time!
I meant to ask you, how much do you like Norma Fox? Ihave their video of them doing about 10 short segments of their tunes. It's about 25MB, I can split it with HJSplit & send you 5 files, you can use HJSplit to rejoin them, it's a free program. If your interested, send me a private email.
Your very welcome! I have his LP, I should post it? Actually, I have them live on an old casette on some radio show, very interesting, they do many accapella tunes, if I can find it I'll post it! Until them keep on doowoping!
I got that on a cassette tape, a friend of mine taped it right from the radio show. Now, the question is, where the heck is it? You had to say that, now I need to look for it. That was about, wow, 18-20 years ago. I'm trying to remember exactly when he gave it too me, I hung with him in the late 80s early 90s, I'll stick with at least 20 years or close to it.
I have that show on a cassette tape somewhere if it's the same show! A friend recorded it for me from the radio. Wow, that was about 20 years ago. You had to say that, now I have to look for it, I know I have it somewhere? It was a nice interview and they sang in between the interview, I'll have to find it now.
I'm a street guy and when we were kids all the neighborhhods listened to DooWopp. The stores would all have the DooWopp Shop on on Sunday nites. I still love DooWopp and the memories.
Notice the address on bottom of record Houston 26, Texas. This alone shows that it's an "oldie." It seems like yesterday that I was writing letters home from Arkansas to zip Philadelphia 35, Pa Doo-Wop is amazing music. When one feels not so good like I do today, I listen to a sound like "Love Doll," and helps make the not so good feeling go away.

I understand! I guess that is 1 of the reasons why I post these sounds. Today it seems the world doesn't have much to offer lately and every time I hear these sounds I get lost in the 50s-60s the peak of this country when times were MEGA NICE! So sit back and check out more sounds & travel back in time!

It take's pure talent to sing like this. The Sister's Of St. Joseph would give Norman an "A," for his performance.

i remember when they were up on
WCBS-FM. They did Pizza Pie, Tell me why, Rainy Day Bells, Dream Girls, A
matter of fact the acappella version that's
up here on you tube was taken from the
radio. the ending is cut off due to the DJ
talking. They recorded most of their songs
acappella for a Starlight Record label's
CD...........Great stuff

Before YouTube came along, 'Tell Me Why' was
the only recording by the 'Roys' of which I
was aware! Now, through this site, I find a
good many great songs by this glorious group
(to coin a tongue twister!) and I'm enjoying
every single one of them!!

PS, I also have his LP
