  • Shit like this give me a friggin woodie.

  • rody's SO hot :DD

  • Protest the Hero is ripyourfaceoffcore. Who gives a shit what genre they are, just listen to it.

  • my god there so shit live..

  • @RayWillJohnson theyre AMAZING LIVE. :O name one metal band that can pull all the singing and music and everything THIS well. (besides his voice crack...but o well its one time who gives a shit)

  • @RayWillJohnson

Lol looser you are, even your youtube name is a fuckin laugh, why do you steal a succesful youtube guys name

  • @oliverandm Oh shit really, let hope i dont get sucessful from a name that i didnt even make up!, i wouldnt want to think i got millions of subs from using others material.

  • LMFAO WTF is mathcore?? damn....whats next, precalcore? Algebracore? damn dudes.....

  • @DarthRoy1292 What??? Are you kidding me? you haven't heard of Geometrecore? Trigonomecore? and who could forget such classics that you mentioned, like Albebracore. But some others that you missed i'll list below. Calculocore Precalculocore (you had this one, but misspelled it :P) Post-Calculocore Number Theorocore PiCore Integracore Derivocore Imaginary Numberocore Of course these are all distinct subsets of Mathcore...Obviously you just don't have the capacity to understand... :P
  • @IfWordsCouldSpeak oh my gawd i am so sorry. but isnt there a. AP Calculocore and Precalculocore honors? (im lmao right now)

  • @DarthRoy1292 Pssh! acting like you know all the sub-genre's of Mathcore! AP calculocore would be redundant with Calculocore, because there is no Non-AP calculus, unless you are in college, but that is still the same class anyways, so how could music ever sound different! and Precalculocore honors would be the same as Precalculocore, because it already is honors! Duh!

  • @IfWordsCouldSpeak goddammit u r a wicked gawd, i must learn from the mastuh!!!!! *blows up*

  • One of the greatest, and under rated bands of all time!

  • aww rody's voice cracked haha too many cigs that day

  • The only genre I'm thinking of about now is called Fucking Flawless.

  • PTH is their own genre. its called talent.

  • fools you cant label greatness

  • i hate labels! the only label that i could put on this band it´s "ORIGINAL" lml

  • Protest the Hero is no genre they are and will forever remain "Unclassifiable".

  • @ChanyvinBondhulst LMFAO xD funny

  • the quality isnt awesome, but they sound shit hot live. :O

  • Rody needs to stop fuckin smokin already -.-

  • dude back when they came to annaimo at the big easy i got to go bacstage and get drunk with rody andthat was probably the sickest moment of my life

  • after watching this video a couple weeks back i have found out that i am now three weeks pregnant

  • gosh what happened at 0:23 ?

    excelent band though!

  • @DDzSlaytanic oh yeah i meant 5/4, but hey 5/3 could be done with triplets??

  • @Athelian

Odd time sigs don't exist- i.e. 5/3. You would play 5 sets of triplets over 4 (that's five even beats)...can't play over a third of a beat.

  • @willith1984

u guys seem to not know what a time sig is, top note is how many beats and bottom note is wat value IE values are 2,4,8,16,32,....can't be an odd number

  • THIS SONG SHOULD NEVER BE A MONTAGE

  • DAMNIT i shouldve been there

stupid education interfering with my concerts :P

  • unless my prays are answered the end is coming soon!

  • Mathcore is a real genre. it adapted from metalcore but plays around with time signatures. PtH is a mathcore influenced band but more progressive.

  • @kiikiu mudvayne is sort of math metal'ish as well.

  • @suicidknotdeathpunch Mudvayne ain't metal though.

  • @nightwhatchman just as metal as these guys. They both kick ass. I am not trying to start a fight or anything

  • @suicidknotdeathpunch Me neither. I like them as well, but they just seem more like "hard rock" instread of metal to me. Matter of perspective I guess.

  • @nightwhatchman yeah, I would agree. Metal is more Lamb of God, Pantera, Slayer. Mudvayne is the shit but like you said, hard rock. Amazing hard rock

  • @nightwhatchman tell me why mudvayne isn't metal. show me some research and i may give a fuck about your opinion.

  • @kiikiu yeah progressive but... the shit of mathcore?

  • @kiikiu so you can kinda call it experimental metal :D

  • @shenkeey If you want too... buts its progressive metal with mathcore influences.

  • @kiikiu experimental is experimenting with different kinda genres hehe, but i like to be fucking annoying and different so dont mind me : D

  • The band Behold...the Arctopus proves mathcore is a real genre. PTH isn't mathcore in my opinion but they have influences of it in their songs. Switching tempos a few times in a song doesn't make it mathcore unless that's a distinctive property of writing a song.

  • @ramblesocket You look at their time signatures and you will understand. It changes every bar at some points, they play 15/16 time then 5/3 in the next bar and back to 15/16 in one of their songs. It's mathcore.

  • @Athelian - I hate arguing genres, it's pretty pointless in my opinion. Thanks for the info, I appreciate it, but I could care less what genre someone says they are. I was responding to a user who said mathcore isn't a genre. I'm a big fan of PTH and it's they're music that matters not how it gets categorized.

  • @Athelian lots of bands do that and arent called mathcore.

  • @sebastionbach couldn't agree more. my band has multiple time signature changes through each song. along with tempo changes. we are not math metal at all. besides isn't math metal based around the fibinatchi sequence ( i know my spellings off)

  • Protest the Hero, Dillinger Escape Plan, Behold...The Arctopus, Norma Jean, The Number Twelve Looks Like You, Botch, and Ion Dissonance are all generally called mathcore bands due to their frequent use of irregular meters..

I'd be forced into saying that it's a genre.

But then again, genre is just something people on youtube comments argue about and doesn't really mean anything in the end, amirite?

  • Check out the wikipedia definition of Mathcore. It's not a matter of sound. It's a matter of time signature.

  • @danlawtor time signature of the notes meaning sound. you lose.

  • Mathcore are often mixed with other genres, as every genre is nowadays. Examples of mathcore band is meshuggah or dillinger escape plan

  • fuck u should went into that mosh :P that woulda been one hell of a show good job cathin this, good quality to say the least... 5/5

  • wtf is a mathcore?

  • mathcore is prob the best way to describe them same with the human abstract

  • LOL fucking idiot, do you have any idea what mathcore is?

I strongly suggest you google the definition. I think you'll find that both bands are more PROGRESSIVE/TECHNICAL METAL dumbshit.

  • woah. passionate.

  • fuck the genres

  • who the crap cares about genre? its music. its expression. why put a label on expression?

  • Are you going to deny that genres are useful? They may be stupid at times and subjective put they can be handy when classifying a broader range of artists.

  • FUCK! They played Masquerade?!

  • Freakin dumbasses who dont understand this is mathcore. Pisses me off how they don't realise it.

  • omg...it's not mathcore...why do so many people NEED to say music has to be divided in subgenres and sub-subgenres whatever! to my knowledge, mathcore doesn't exist, all Protest does is use a lot of odd timings, but they use them well. same with other bands. If something has to be mathcore one day it'll be about people singing on how 378 divided by 13=29.07. Voilà

  • Cedkills don't reply to a comment unless you know what you're talking about. It makes you look pretty dumb. Peace.

  • I'm sorry killath303, I forgot I know nothing of this so called mathcore you all talk about :P. I will now crawl back into a hole and die.

  • Protest used to be hardcore punk in their pre-Kezia days.

Then in Kezia they were very Metalcore.

With fortress they ahve developed a more technical and heavier song which is defined as mathcore.

  • I don't see them as mathcore... The Dillinger Escape Plan are mathcore. Totally different kinda music.

  • Guess the sound for the genre has changed then =/ my bad.

  • its progressive metalcore. mathcore is more about the rhythms and less about the melody

  • PTH prefers not to be put into genres because then people like little kids on youtube argue for hours about it.

  • im pretty sure they have never said that lol... and if they did then u better stfu coz thats exactly what ur doing

  • @FlameX15 I hear u man, just enjoy the music ffs :D

  • Mathcore is just really complex playing. JS.

  • lol its reli not. by that description then many classical songs must be mathcore...

im not havin a go, but try to know wat ur talking about before u go informing ppl :P

  • Ok so by your logic then a lot of classical songs are crossovers between hardcore punk and heavy metal? I just assumed you knew what the Core suffix meant. Or I could get into detail: Mathcore is a crossover genre between Hardcore Punk and Heavy Metal characterized by complex Melodies and rhythms. Protest the Hero is mainly a mathcore band.

  • Pigeon holes, Pigeon holes!!

  • Sorry, I forgot to mention very technical playing.

  • imo there albums are really good and creative and some of the members certainly have chops, but fact of the matter is they slower down the tempo and the singer missed a lot of notes

  • the fact that they are like 22/21 here doesnt change that at all? they have a whole life of practice ahead of them and they are near perfect here so...

  • hey man i like them and plan on listening to any album they come up with and this could always just be a bad video

  • Protest the Hero is fuckin' good band so shut up you gay.

  • Protest the Hero is Kickass!!!

  • Hahahaha

  • Ok wait so your telling me that making up that crazy stuff right there as they go along is stupid...... cause if there making that up right there on the spot then that's pretty impressive.

  • 9/4 is a valid time signature though. just saying.

  • x/9 is not a time signature

The second number in a time signature identifies what kind of note stands for a beat. (ie. 4 for quarter note, 8 for eighth note etc...) There is no ninth note.

  • Oh, and comment left for you. Forgot to hit "reply". Sorry, I don't do this alot.

  • x/9 Can't be a time signature.

    x/1, x/2, x/4, x/8, x/16 are fairly common.

    x/32, x/64, etc is possible.

  • i love this band!!!!

  • 7/9 is definitely not a time signature.

  • x/4 is a time signature, cause 4 = 2^2

    x/8 is a time signature, cause 8 = 2^3

    x/9 is a time signature, cause 9 = 2^3.169925001

    its logical xD

  • So wrong.. it's almost funny.

  • the drummer looks bored shitless

  • Comment removed

  • thc.

  • Comment removed

  • oh. well i think we can all agree its a great mixture of both! lol

  • he always does ;)

  • lol hes so good he can do the hardest shit no problem at all

  • the sound its fucking terrible but they still goooood haha

  • the lead guitarist needs to turn the volume up.

then they would give a five star performance

  • lmfao!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • it sounds like he holds the mike too close to his mouth lol

  • i wish i had a mustache like brodi

  • Brodi? Its Rody.

  • this kugarok kids a faggot.

  • This Omgstreetfight kid is a faggot.

  • wow. i'll kill you.

  • RANDOM HANDS!!

  • fuck yes random hands!

  • ive seen these guys like 3 times, and ive met them all... pretty sure they started around where i live! Protest rules

  • super squeak at 0:23 HAHAHAHA

  • THIS SINGER IS A FREAK OF NATURE !!!! I honestly thought it to be impossible to sing live like this threw an entire tour. Could this be the greatest singer in Metal history???? "High fly" "Death metal crawls" and "High piched screaming" in almost every song. What can't this man do with his voice?

  • cure cancer? send people back threw time? impregnate women... or men?... you know what. im probably wrong. there is nothing he cant do with his voice.

  • lol

  • sorry but only John Petrucci can impregnate men :p

  • John Petrucci can eat my ass cheeze xD. haha

  • impregnate men

    AHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • @HerosOfProtest i saw them live, woke up ten years ago minus a brain tumour and i was six months down the line. whats worse is he never called

  • Comment removed

  • @HerosOfProtest YOU HAD TO TAKE IT TO ANOTHER LEVEL. We are on the topic of music here. Stop being so uptight and enjoy the video. I can't believe your comment rivals mine in thumbs up.

  • @HerosOfProtest Ahh man! Responding to you just took me off the list. If you check page 11 I have 26 thumps up.

  • not hard really if you practice EVERY DAY and DONT fuck up your voice form doing it but eventually he could blow his chords david draiman from disturbed did, just saying

  • So did M shadows from A7X

  • @nined5thclick

Listen to Christian Alvestam, now THAT IS A VOCALIST.

  • @Shyuum So is your mom. she's got some pipes on her.

  • @Hodgkins91

    Look at your face

  • @Shyuum give me a mirror. oh.. ya.. your moms using it to get my pubes out of her teeth...

  • @Hodgkins91

I've heard better comebacks from a 12 year girl

  • @nined5thclick i thumbed up... so we will see what happens.

  • Saw them last night at this exact same place.

They were drunk as hell in this video.

Last night, on the other hand, was incredible. =P

  • 0:23

    HAHAHAH I CANT STOP LAUGHING!

  • They are pretty good live... :)

  • the guitar from 1:51 and on is just incredible

  • look at the guys hand at 1:51 lol

  • haha

  • lol

  • hahaha

  • haha i saw a lot of that when I saw em last week XD

  • i just saw them on the 29 and it was awesome

  • i saw them on the 29th too, the red room was such an sweet venue! so small and so packed!

  • yeah i totally awesome. love the free shots of jaggermeister too. lol

i never knew about the red room till that night.

Callahan was awesome too and Ninjaspy was also good

  • In vancouver? I was going to go but i didnt know if it was 19+ or not.

  • Get over yourself, they're fucking amazing live. No one is perfect. And don't even compare Protest and Dragonforce. Dragonforce is all about being fast and getting sales and remaking old songs and Protest the Hero isn't. At least Protest doesn't have to speed their guitar parts up with computers..

  • said well, dragonforce have skill but can't write songs for shit, pth absolutely shit on them

  • Haven't you heard, bashing Dragonforce is cool!

  • i agree

  • the singer is amazing

  • how great is it to live in toronto where we can see these guys play at tiny clubs or huge venues any time we want!

  • so epic, i was at this show..

protest the hero has been my favorite band forever.

  • great show

  • At least the quality is really good, i like that his voice actually sounds like what it really is in the song instead of having like sound alterations

  • not bad

  • Silverstein, A Day to Remember, and....the Devil Wears Prada.

I absolutely loathe A Day To Remember.

  • Id feel bad for anyone of these bands if they had to follow Protest.

    Who headlined?

  • Silverstein headlined. Protest opened up. i think maybe it should've been the other way around.

  • ahah ya really should of been.

Silverstein dont have shit on protest.

  • ADTR is epic

  • right on. to each his own.

  • that was an extremely diplomatic response, i commend you

  • i was at this show! phenomenal live band.

i wasn't really impressed with any of the other bands.

  • who else was playing?

  • the guitar at 1:49-the end is so fucking sick.

  • this is great quality for a camera!

  • man good call eh!

  • I WAS THERE!!

it was awesome :] that was a great day :

  • 1:46 PROPER CLAW HAND!!!!!!!

  • ahahaha lol

  • lmao so epic

  • Comment removed

  • Can't wait to see them live!

  • this song is sick. finally a band that can put out albums just as good as their other ones.
