Totally correct. Their anti-violence message was a bit naive. Antifas don't object to violence - but this must be carried out in RESISTANCE only. This tactic is consistent with anarchism. Contrast this to the Searchlight/UAF con merchants. But I think Steve was having more of a pop at the ANL - who like UAF and STW today, were SWP controlled.

Isn't that one of the reasons they broke up? Because of conflict between their pacifism and their feeling that pacifism was outdated (i.e. "youre already dead")... I dont know...Anyways, Murray Rothbard always said the only just war us Americans ever fought was the revolutionary war because it was directly in a resistance for freedom. I know left and right anarchists don't agree on a lot, but I think the idea that violence should only be for defense is almost universal.

Fair points. Though I would argue that the majority of anarchists reject this label of 'left anarchists' and 'right anarchists'. Anarchism is about abolishing left and right - for these are defined by competing claims of power, rather than to abolish power itself.

Yes, I reckon it is a strange conclusion by Steve. I hear where he is coming from but the ethic left/right stuff the fucking lot was the correct way to see it no matter who is in power. Either side has got some product to sell and some reason to keep centralised control of our lives. Left or right maintain contempt towards us. They disrespect us and our potential, so stuff em. The trick is to stop voting for them by not buying the products. Sometimes that can take a lifetime to reach that point.

I watched the above doco on minimovies last night. Good to get an insight into Crass and Dial. As a young punk rocker it was always hard to get my head around how to divorce myself from the system but Rimbaud had already done a good job of doing that. It takes a good shift in thinking. Here in Oz we have permaculture but it has taken me 30 years to embrace it! I reckon I must be slow witted!
