It makes no sense why anyone would worry about what suffering their food goes through while grinding and chewing it's flesh in their mouth. What would you guys consider fresher... a fish that's been in a tank at the restaurant with 50 other fish for about a week served live or a fish that was just pulled out of the water in nature, had it's head cut and was served within one minute.
Ahh.... so we see now, freshness can have many meanings. And so the sickness of people is well displayed when you see a fish being sliced and diced without being made unconsciouss for 'freshness' of course.

A bear won't keep fish alive on purpose,it catches and eats it alive or not. Also a bear has a powerful bite, when it bites onto a fish that bite normally kills the fish or it devourers it so quickly fish don't stay alive long, seconds,a few minuets at most.
Bears don't knowingly tournament fish by deliberately keeping it alive for 20 minuets why/after it's eaten it.
So yes, it's more "barbaric" than a bear.

Why do Japanese eat live fish?
I think it's just because we can get many live fishes easily, very natural reason. So, long long time ago, someone in Japan tried to eat live and raw fish and found its yumminess... and it became common here.
I admit Ikezukuri is a bit cruel, but I've got used to it coz I eat alot since childhood. what I now think about this is "very fresh. must be yummy"

You have to be careful about eating raw food even if it is fresh coz there could still be parasites in the fish. These parasites can grow inside your body and some will continue to grow in your brain which is very scary and hard to take out.
