I am Chippewa, but I have been to Captain Jack's stronghold. It is extremely hot and the volcanic rocks will do in a pair of shoes in no time. Captain Jack did not deserve to be hung, nor his body displayed around the country. He was a great general and soldier fighting for his land. Fred Jack Amikoonsgiyamanitoumahwhingon.
Fantastic ballad, got me that interested i looked up the whole story. A brilliant bit of little known history. Anyone know where i can find the lyrics for this track??
this is terrible. i wish we heared it more often in the news and would feel responsible. has a presindent ever said sorry to the indians, like the australian prime minister did recently?
The 7th Cavalry got their butts in a sling again after Little Big Horn, fourteen years later, the day after the Wounded Knee Massacre. If it wasn't for the 9th Cavalry Buffalo Soldiers, there would of been a second massacre of the 7th. Read, and visit site/history, rescue at pine ridge. com
I don't pretend that I know the horrid story of native America. All I know is that Native tribes raised money for the starving Irish during the great famine. For that they hold a deep affection in our hearts today.
its such a symbolic story. I mean beja tribesmen in the sudan or samurais under saigo takamori or zulu's and many other native peoples stood up for what they beleived was right in their hearts...and they died in thousands. this is just one small story but powerful enough. thankyou patrick.
This song and album were release on 12/3/08 It is the first song on the album "Califronia Story" Captain Jack is on the cover of the album. America's No#1 Cowboy singer, Michael martin Murphey, joined the band on many numbers. If interested in this song and album go to - CD Baby and enter Black Irish band
That is just an awesome song. All they wanted was to stay where they lived. Oh how I would hate for some one to run me off of my stompin' grounds! Really glad I found this, thanks for sharing!
The Modoc's were good warriors, I cringe when I think of the waist of such men, when they could have been put to good service for the state and correctly assimilated, but in the end they were overwhelmed and they gave up, I've read a little about the Modoc's and was not aware of any treachery that played into there capture. I do love the song
@JosephEaorle I will judge them by the contact of there actions and the treaty, if I can find it, on the question of sovereignty, well were they self-governing (by the law that they and most nations follow) at the time of the uprising?

Some of us would like to run away, even today! (from what the "white man's world" seems to represent, & seems to want to impose on us)
But it seems there's nowhere left to run to...
You can be sure, even if you tried to run, to escape the yoke of control - the same "army" would come, to drag you back!
And this would be the case, whether you are red, white, black, or yellow. Anyone who makes a bid for freedom, will be put down.
The message is: "Submit to our control, or die."
