I hated ABBA back in the day. They were basically ear candy, but I was stoned-out metalhead. Anything in Pop music that didn't have that raw electric guitar sound just wasn't going to cut it for me. Looking back, I can appreciate their careers and the hard work they put into it. These were consummate musicians who pooled their talents and made something of it. Watching them in these videos, they seem like very likeable people.

@Johnhoulgate i think a lot of people thought the same back then, but looking back when you think about the pretentious prog rock bands who thought the world revolved around their 45 minute keyboard solo`s, the punk bands who swore on live t.v just to be controversial not to mention the rock bands throwing televisons out of hotel windows and having their records played backwards it wasnt abba who were a cliche or a pastiche. abba just made great records and thats what music is all about.

I was lucky enough to see them live in St Paul MN in 1979.They were very nice in person too as I got to meet them and got their autographs back at the hotel. truly a night I will never forget.

You were indeed lucky to catch ABBA on their only North American tour. A friend, who saw their last show in Toronto on that tour, admits he was dragged there kicking and screaming (to chaperone his little sister). He says to this day its one the greatest concerts he's ever seen.

@madmikeastoria Hello Mad Mike; I wish I'd made it up, but it's sort of a genre of music where the songs may be loud and hard-driving, yet beautiful, with pretty chord changes, melody, and harmonies. It was mainly an early 1970s thing, occupied by Badfinger (such as "No Matter What") and many other groups. "SOS" to me is very powerful and driving but also emotional and beautiful, so it sort of fit that description.

parts of this video was filmed just outside the cabin where benny and bjoern have composed most of the ABBA songs in sweden. the cabin is on a island called lidingö . sometimes they have spent 10 hours per day inside this little cabin just to write songs. you can see the windows of the cabin at the beginning of this video
