Communism is about COMMON OWNERSHIP, A STRONG GOVERMENT and a PLANNED ECONOMY. Liberalism is about INDIVIDUAL OWNERSHIP, A WEAK GOVEREMENT and MARKET ECONOMY.
They are the extremes on two sides of a scale. They got absolutely nothing in common.

By your definition we could conclude that Thomas Jefferson was a liberal but he would be an ultra-conservative if he lived in today's world. High taxes and taxes on the rich does not equate to weaker government.That equates to more government control.You can write what you said to get an A on the test but it's not right in today's world.

I have no knowledge of American politics or Obamas position on such matters but you should always be careful with who you label as a liberal.
If enough people claim they belong to a certain ideology start going against the very foundations of that very ideology doesnt change the meaning of it.
At most it creates a new branch in the ism but most of the time the persons shouldnt be labeled as followers in the first place.

What you are suggesting is that big business has no control over out education system, which is patently false. They not only have some control over public education institution via the same channels that they have to the government, which produces things capitalists need for greater efficieny - standardization. To private institution and researchers, they provide grants and donations. We live in the business-run state in which even education is under the control of the rich.
