I was a Christian for 25 years, all as an adult. I have read the Bible many times, including the NT twice in Greek and parts of the OT in Hebrew and Aramaic. I was a devout churchgoer, a missionary, an editor of Christian books. What did all this force me to conclude? That the Bible is highly problematic and that churches are generally composed of a large number of innocent, earnest sheep, some hypocrites, and a small number of shysters on a power/money trip. These last often rise to the top.
So what happened? The Bible isn't problematic. Yes, churches are composed of innocent sheep and some hypocrites. But regarding shysters at the top, a Spirit-led revival can change all that. And they're not all shysters. Check out Thomas Road Baptist Church's website. Pastor Falwell and Charles Billingsley are the real deal!
Being a christian isn't a business deal, its so much more profound than having a hierarchy of who is more important, and who isn't, you know what its like to be a christian and you would then know and feel the greatness of Gods love for his sheep, this love is UNCONDITIONAL and our love to God should be unconditional also!
You don't go to church to see who's getting where and why, don't let it blind you of what the main goal is and that's heaven, all others side, God is THE only one who matters, and should matter!
@WolfLikeLamb I did not "abandon" Christ because of hypocrites in church. That would be silly. What drove me out was the lack of connection between the OT and the NT. Christianity sprang out of the milieu of Judaism at the time of Christ and other religious trends of the time. It did not come straight out of the OT, as is widely taught in the NT and in churches. The idea of a person having to "fulfill" the law and then die vicariously for the sins of the world is not, repeat not, in the OT.

1. I received zero medical treatment for cystic fibrosis. It's incurable anyway. My mom got the same diagnosis from 2 docs, then came home & told God, "If I have to go to You after listening to doctors say they can't help, maybe I should just go to You first!" Then she prayed for me in earnest and God healed me--completely and instantly. God created the body and He can heal it--of anything! God is my medical doctor! He knows more than all the scientists and doctors put together!
why? if God was real, and he did cure you, why doesn't he cure all those other people? They pray in earnest, don't they deserve to be cured?
How can you honestely and with a straight face tell an for instance, an amputee, God cured me because my mom prayed in earnest, but doesn't bring back your arms because you don't try hard enough.

I didn't make it all up! I was really sick! You know nothing of God's healing power! Why does God cure some and not others? I don't know. I leave that with Him. Some have faith and some don't. Everyone who came to Jesus in the Bible was healed! But many today don't believe God heals anymore. That's called unbelief and it's their problem, not mine! Btw, some amputees have re-grown limbs...

There are a few conversions, but the trend is the number of people giving up religion altogether.

People looked for reasons why things happen in the world, if the rains failed, they looked for an event which may have caused it, perhaps they did a dance, and by chance it rained the next day, so myths are made, but we know about the weather system now, so no more raindance.
@220chrisTian As we learn more about our universe, religious myths are discredited and people see that god does not answer prayers, rich& poor, old and young, theist& atheist get diseases, die in accidents and natural disasters in a completely arbitrary fashion. You ask Why doesnt God heal everyone? How about Why does God heal anyone? Why does God do anything for anybody? He doesnt have to! But He does anyway. That's His goodness and mercy to us. You think God should do this and that. You think you can order Him around. This is arrogance! Its only by the grace of God that we breathe! Every breath we take is a gift from God! He is not our servant. We are His. God is in control. He isn't dependent on us. We are dependent on Him.
You wonder why the sick praise and thank God. Well, when people get married, what do they vow? That in sickness and in health, for richer, for poorer, till death do us part they will stay together. They will love each other no matter what. Its the same with us and God! Whether healthy or sick, rich or poor, in light or in darkness, I will praise, love, and obey God! And I know He will never leave me, no matter what physical/other condition Im in [Matthew 28:20].
God makes Himself available to us through prayer. He tells us in His Word—over and over—that there is NOTHING impossible with Him. All we have to do is keep asking, seeking, and knocking—in FAITH. And if we do, we will receive what we pray for. We let God worry about whether or not the prayer request is His will. So do we take God at His Word? Do we believe and pray in faith? Or do we doubt Gods promises and character?
People in the past took God at His Word and they were rewarded for their faith [Hebrews 11, etc]. They still do today. Will you? Will you be bold enough to step out in faith and believe God? Or will you continue to doubt?

I was a Christian for 25 years, all as an adult. I have read the Bible many times, including the NT twice in Greek and parts of the OT in Hebrew and Aramaic. I was a devout churchgoer, a missionary, an editor of Christian books. What did all this force me to conclude? That the Bible is highly problematic and that churches are generally composed of a large number of innocent, earnest sheep, some hypocrites, and a small number of shysters on a power/money trip. These last often rise to the top.

@WolfLikeLamb I did not "abandon" Christ because of hypocrites in church. That would be silly. What drove me out was the lack of connection between the OT and the NT. Christianity sprang out of the milieu of Judaism at the time of Christ and other religious trends of the time. It did not come straight out of the OT, as is widely taught in the NT and in churches. The idea of a person having to "fulfill" the law and then die vicariously for the sins of the world is not, repeat not, in the OT.

Why did you recover. where you left in an dark corner and miricaly survived or did modern medicine use science to cure you?
2) People drown and come back after 50 minutes, revive from heart attacks, ... are they really dead? or are they in a comateus state?
If the brain chemistry is gone, you're dead. if it isn't you can still be revived. .
So heart stopping is not dead. It's even used as treatement in modern medicine

1. I received zero medical treatment for cystic fibrosis. It's incurable anyway. My mom got the same diagnosis from 2 docs, then came home & told God, "If I have to go to You after listening to doctors say they can't help, maybe I should just go to You first!" Then she prayed for me in earnest and God healed me--completely and instantly. God created the body and He can heal it--of anything! God is my medical doctor! He knows more than all the scientists and doctors put together!

2) the original diagnosis was wrong
why? if God was real, and he did cure you, why doesn't he cure all those other people? They pray in earnest, don't they deserve to be cured?
How can you honestely and with a straight face tell an for instance, an amputee, God cured me because my mom prayed in earnest, but doesn't bring back your arms because you don't try hard enough.

I didn't make it all up! I was really sick! You know nothing of God's healing power! Why does God cure some and not others? I don't know. I leave that with Him. Some have faith and some don't. Everyone who came to Jesus in the Bible was healed! But many today don't believe God heals anymore. That's called unbelief and it's their problem, not mine! Btw, some amputees have re-grown limbs...

There are a few conversions, but the trend is the number of people giving up religion altogether.
I do not believe because everything about religion yells at me; lies, myth, misuse of power, prejudice, intolerance.
If you stand outside religion you can see the sheer foolishness of it. Do you know there are over 3000 recorded religions past and present? All with their own gods&rules and all believed in just as fervently as you believe in yours. How do you know your is the "right" one?

You may say you "know" it is, because you "feel" god's presence or whatever, but many millions in other religions "feel" the same about their gods, and they can't all be right, but they can all be wrong.
People looked for reasons why things happen in the world, if the rains failed, they looked for an event which may have caused it, perhaps they did a dance, and by chance it rained the next day, so myths are made, but we know about the weather system now, so no more raindance.

@220chrisTian As we learn more about our universe, religious myths are discredited and people see that god does not answer prayers, rich& poor, old and young, theist& atheist get diseases, die in accidents and natural disasters in a completely arbitrary fashion. It may SEEM that god answers prayer sometimes, but it's just coincidence. People on the web say god answered their prayer to give them a car, or remind them of a song lyric, & you say you were cured by prayer but it's all an illusion.

Yes, that's what Jesus said. Peace with God means war with the world, sin, and self. Choosing Jesus means rejecting those three. You can't love God and the world, God and sin. He's holy! "If the world hated you, it hated Me first" [John 15:19]. Jesus is just telling us what it's going to be like for us when we choose to follow Him. Why? Jesus has many enemies, even though He died to save them. When you choose Jesus, you become the enemies of those who hate Him.

God makes Himself available to us through prayer. He tells us in His Word—over and over—that there is NOTHING impossible with Him. All we have to do is keep asking, seeking, and knocking—in FAITH. And if we do, we will receive what we pray for. We let God worry about whether or not the prayer request is His will. So do we take God at His Word? Do we believe and pray in faith? Or do we doubt Gods promises and character?

he has a plan for every1 but u can chose whether or not to follow it hewont make u do something u dont wanna do, if he forced people do things then the world would be perfect, if u dont believe in God then y r u looking about songs about him and criticizing them?

I take it you haven't actually read the Bible if you're going to claim your imaginary friend hasn't forced anyone to do things.

SO 1) either he wanted it, and you worship a daughter-killer
or 2) he didn't want to kill his daughter but God forced him to. meaning God does force you into doing things you don't want. either way that's messed up

you mean life will go on forever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever. don't you see what torment that is? If you want to REALLY torment someone, give them eternal life.
people aren't afraid from dead, they are afraid that they won't be able to die. this afterlife would have us keep going for ALL ETERNITY. it sounds nice. but think about it. really forever means no change too
