  • Im so glad i was away on holiday when that happened.

  • OMFG. Is this normal or fricken what?. tough lads indeed!! great vid. .. .. from Cork. Ireland.. thank you.

  • if i remember, it was a good birthday that year:\

  • i love the comment - "you couldn't fill the tank that quick with a hose...." hahahaha. smart dudes.

  • It infuriates me how people mistake these for cyclones.. Gret video by the way (The trees are standing straight we must me in the eye)please haha

  • This is a phenomenon called a Microburst. When the thunderstorm is collapsing cold air from the upper atmosphere rushes downward and is accelerated to speeds 150km/h+. With it comes hail and rain (as seen here) they can pack a punch stronger than F1-3 tornados. Amazing Footage. :)

  • bad storm alright amazing to watch though. i was on a rooftop car park and my sister and i helped a young family get into their car right in the middle of it! and warned a further 20-30 people it was coming inside the shopping center. those people saved their cars and warned still more to do the same!

  • OMG I was in this storm! My neighbours roof got ripped off, no joke! o.o

  • Lol I was is that storm and I remember lookin out the window to see my trampoline flying ion my neighbors yard

  • that was a bloody bad storm that year. I hate storms i get really scared

  • I LIVE IN FLORIDA...AND WE GOT HIT BY FRANCES THEN JEANNE ALL WITHIN A 3 WEEK PERIOD IN 2005..IT SUCKED...BUT I HAD FUN GOING OUTSIDE IN IT

  • Wow, great footage! I miss being in SE Qld and experiencing these amazing storms (hail, high winds, and having to wait on the side of the road until it's over if in the car at the time.)

  • I live a few suburbs from the gap, i don't remember any storm this big in 2008??

  • i was in that storm walking with no shelter you no how bad it stings getting hit with rain at 130 kms it was cold as shit and i saw wheelie bins fly ill never forget it

  • THAT's the problem: they SHOULD be scared! However, at least they had the sense to stay inside. Otherwise, I guarantee you that they would have been hit, and pulverized, by disseminating debris. Also, the wind would have knocked them off of their feet and blown them yards away. Some people confuse stupidity for bravery. I'm from tornado alley (Texas) so I'm quite familiar with intense weather. We take it very seriously. The awesome power of nature can be safely viewed, from a protected area.

  • @ Indoor lighting

This has got to be without a doubt the best storm video on youtube by far! Good job!

Pardon my language but there is not other way to say it, you guys have balls of steel!

  • Wow! Glad you guys didn't get blown away! I'm glad I don't live too close to the coast (the coast of Alabama that is lol). Cyclones/hurricanes don't look like fun. We usually get the tornadoes from the hurricanes that hit the coast where I live in the states. Love how ya added, "Escape the next Brisbane storm by going on vacation" at the end LOL xD

  • I've done some investigating.... for the USA folks... the peak winds were just over 100mph and the rain dropped was 6.5 inches in 15 friggin minutes. That is 26 inches per hour in intensity.... MIND BOGGLING!

  • This is hands-down the best video ever captured of a non-tornadic severe thunderstorm ! This simply boggles my mind.

  • lol im moving to aussie land ;D

  • Watch this - No Helmets! We don't need your firepower. Have a great day!

    watch?v=EvKBz3lkTiE

  • it'd be cool if you could play in that storm

  • Honest: I was having sex with someone I didn't know well when this beastly storm came across. Now this chick had a lovely personality, but had a face like a smashed crab. Normally I would escape through the bathroom window, leaving my shirt/shoes behind, as I've done before, especially when I lived at the Coast.

But, being the legend that I am, I went back and dove under the covers and took refuge near her large, smelly vag, till it was over.

  • great footage, this storm's wind speeds would have been roughly equivalent to a Cat 3 or 4 cyclone i would say...

  • Shit!!!

  • Scariest day of my life.

  • Best micro burst footage ever!!! Well done and thanks for sharing it

  • its amazing how us aussies love our storms cyclones floods damn what is wrong with us hehehe. Your footage is amazing, if i was there i would have grabbed a cold one (beer). btw i worked on fixing the cunningham hwy from that strom on the top of the gap.

  • @0:28 how goods that lol

  • check out " john mccullagh " ....IS THIS HOME !....ITS A SONG THAT WAS WROTE ABOUT THE FLOODS IN ENGLAND...BUT IS NOW ABOUT THE FLOODS IN QUEENSLAND TOO.....GOD BLESS ALL THEM PEOPLE.

  • It looks like a shower

  • Aussie tornadoes and cyclones go in reverse too, right?

  • wow thats awesome!! i thought our super cell storm in melbourne was cool. nothing compared to that. gr8 vid

  • probably the best what mother earth can serve.

  • We Australians, have strong foundation. Our homes are strong, our economy is strong, and our people are strong.

We Australians, always help each other.

I have no surprise if these blokes so relax watching the storm from their backyard, because we know that we always have a full support from the government, army, and the people, in case we need help.

I'm Indonesian ethnically; I’ve been living in Australia for 15 years and become Australia’s citizen. I’m so proud with my adopted country.

  • @SharedJoy And its 2nd most modernized country on earth. My opinion :). Theres nobody poor in Australia. Becouse Australia wasnt made to have poor people!

  • @UltimateOwnz ..That isn't true, there are poor people everywhere :|

and in terms of technological advancements, we are so behind on everything compared to Europe, Asia and North America.

  • Amazing footage.

  • lol if your house went to pieces

  • What Category?

  • This is amazing footage. It's often difficult to explain to people how dangerous the weather can get in Australia because this kind of power and destruction is beyond the imagination of most people.

I live in Aspley about 5 mins from this and we didn't get it nearly as bad as you guys did. I have never seen such extreme damage done to one specific area whilst leaving the surrounding arrears untouched. Amazing.

Thanks so much for sharing the video! I hope your place was ok.

  • Due the the topography around The Gap the effects of the storm might have been enhanced. The hills and valleys around The Gap most probably would have caused turbulence (rotor) and venturi effects on the wind and rain.

  • @thecartel69 I agree with you. Did you notice that one side of the mountain (where the most damage occured) was completely devestated and the other side was untouced?? It was so difinitive.

  • beautiful sunny queensland

  • I remember the meteorologists saying that it was technically wasn't a cyclone, and I remember thinking "rubbish"!

  • @shazzadee It was a Microburst, never heard of the term myself till this storm happened.

  • " not gunna be laughing if the house blows over "... pmsl lovin it !~

  • I remember this at the same time it was devastating the damage it left with families although nothing happened to my house and then it is AMAZING the power of nature. My eyes were stunned. Craziest cylcone to ever hit australia in decades

  • Not a Cyclone!! If as you say "we are in the eye" Why hasn't the wind come from the other direction??

  • Ha I remember this. It really was almost like there was an 'eye' in the storm then BOOM. Crazy stuff. Great footage :)

  • I love how we Aussies just so casually accept what ever's coming. We're a tough breed and there isn't a lot that scares up. So proud to be an Aussie!

  • So true, I am showing this to all my international friends here in Holland, and they can't believe that the people in the video are all having a great time watching!... I must admit I would be doing to the same thing!

  • @TomHallPhotography Definitely Understand. It's Been Rough For You All Lately. Peace To You and Yours.

  • @TheKrawlSpace Australians are like ants. We work together to overcome everything and anything. Even though in the global picture we're kinda small we lift many, many times our own weight when we need to. We'll help other ants we've never met without second thought just so the nest we call Australia can be rebuilt bigger and better. The floods subside, the winds ease and the fires go out eventually and you bet that as soon as the sun rises the next day we get things fixed - no matter what!

  • @TomHallPhotography most of the ones I know are more like kunts.....probably all hailing from the coast mate, coasty, fuggen, coasty, fuggen coasty mate!!!

  • @TomHallPhotography coasty, fuggen coasty, fuggen coasty mate!!!!

Also sounds like one of the ferals is having a tug in the background, either that or someone's punjabed his bare ass without lube

  • @TomHallPhotography american fire power will scare u. XD

  • @MrZAS10 Fire?

  • When nature puts on a show like this you can't help but be left in awe.

  • Thats an awesome video, i live in Birkdale, and we saw the storm pass over the gap. The sky went dark green.

  • shit that a ton of rain. haha 'we're not gonna be laughing if the house blows over.'

  • Man I Can Watch That All Day

  • Gotta admit, I really prefer the Australian response to natural disasters - none of that wailing & praying to Jesus crap.

  • @morningchaps me too.i think your right cause we are gonna all die soon but who knows if the world will end in 2012 cause i think its a lie, Obama is a big fat liar, he was poor, but now he's the president. He's a monster, the iluminati is from Lucifer and i dont like that. The Goverment will delete (or maybe not) the dollars and fight the euros.

  • i admit it its true that the Goverment have a machine(or however you spelll it)named:HAARP, that machine was the one that caused the earthquake of haiti and the earthquake of chile. So,anyways hope you guys beilieve me cause you can search Haiti Earthquake Cause by HAARP and itll show.oh and there's one more thing, the Goverment say that they were trying the machine and it was a mistake for the earthquake of haiti. And something else, this is funny Bush touched a hasian's hand and wiped it on pres.

  • Yeah, that was a bit of a rough storm aye. I remember going to the Gap after that storm to remove a tree that fell through my grandparents roof. I was kinda shocked by the carnage, roofs gone, big old gum trees uprooted, the place was a mess. Wasn't a cyclone though, we hardly got a third of that in New Farm.

  • Looks like the storm let go a massive downburst from about 1:30 onwards. A good downburst can have the same damaging potential as a tornado.

  • Holy shit! Mother nature at it's best....and worst! I live in Brisbane and will never forget that storm. I love storms :)

  • I was once in a storm like that just south, it wasn't quite as big but it did some damage. My family used to live next to a school because my dad was principal. one day a storm came from the west and within minutes trees were uprooted. we all stood out on one of the balcony's on the school and a lightning bolt hit a tree about 30 metres away. scared the living daylights out of me.

  • I rode the storm out in a park. Worst decision ever!

  • @aus245 zomg you like cyclones?!

  • power hose from hell

  • I miss brisbane because of epic storms like this, and also the bike tracks it is such a great city to be active in.

  • Awesome footage man. I'm up at payne road and that cyclone ripped up half my trees in the back, smashed multiple windows and left the road itself completely unrecognizable. Still, i'd like it to happen again :P

  • Cyclones are great

  • Unbelievable! I was on my way to a Touch game. I passed The Gap and most buildings had great damage.

  • great storm footage.however and more importantly,we all are born with a conscience and are free to choose good or evil.God does not make humans like animals that only follow instincts.we have souls that move in our sleep for instance, even though the body is still.the soul loves hates etc in mixed memories in sub conscience.

God gives us a mind to understand truth, such as the sun the right distance from earth for life is no accident, our soul needs a saviour

  • Sooo Aussie.. Larakin comments and all.. lol, love it

  • "were not going to be laughing if the house goes over"

  • i was living in Kings Park at the time just over the hill from The Gap, i had my roof ripped off and two big gum trees come down and miss my car by inches. Was home alone with two young babies and i still feel funny (after 2 years) watching this. Very good footage guys....wish i stopped panicing for a moment to think about getting my camera out.

  • ive seen 1000s of videos with amazing footage of severe storms from trees blowing over to lightnight striking 1m away, but i have never seen anything as amazing as this!

I live in maleny 500m above sea level, and an hour north of brisbane, i captured some footage of this storm and it looked bad!! but i never ever expected it to be like this!

Never forget that day :) i only wish we got the storm full on like that.. (in maleny the storms either die down or go around us)

    :(

  • those poor.. poor trees :(

  • Probably one of the most severe storms in the last ten years in SE QLD . Wind speeds in this storm by dopplar radar were recorded at 180kmhr.

  • lol the storm heard him. as soon as he said THATS NOTHING!!!, the wind picked up speed

  • Amazing Footage - Loved the 'Wall Of Water' after the 'Eye' of the 'Cyclone'.

Hail looked more like tennis balls...

    SNOW! - Yummy Yummy

    XD

  • Good vid, i copped it pretty bad as well. No power for three days sucked a bit.

  • Wow - excellent footage. Actually, my mother`s house in D`Aguilar Road got trashed in this deluge.

  • fuck now thers a cyclone coming to sydney i hope it will be like this one

  • Stick your ass out the window.

  • Rain you are not supposed to be moving sideways!

  • AWESOME

  • i remember this storm i had my formal that night!!! it was so scary but exciting we all got wet but didnt care and then couldnt make it to the after party cause roads were blocked so we partied in the car off the road....ahhhhh good times :) but felt sorry for the damage it made to alot of families.

  • crickey i remember this storm in brissy, it was scary shit. I lived in hervey bay at the time n we got the back end of it. I hate cyclone season lol

  • beautiful, but dangerous ;-) great

  • lol how funny

  • my house was practically killed from that storm :'( haha

  • Man thinks he got it all figured out with his 'intelligence' and personified opinions. If it was truely intended, nature could wipe the surface of the earth clean in less than a day... Perhaps it wouldn't be an unwise decision to start showing some respect for the soil that is lived on. xD

  • WOW mad storm! great video

  • btw the bureau of meteorology confirms that the winds reached speeds of about 180 kph

  • This same storm hit the Bunya/Albany Creek area (10 - 15km north) not long after this.

We had about 60mm of rain in 10 minutes. The winds were just as strong but hail wasn't a big factor.

  • Thanks for showing this. I am so scared of storms as i think it is one of my worst fears with spiders. :)

  • I think it was what the Bureau of Meteorology call a 'microburst'

  • I was in Wynnum and didn't get anything like this at all, not even close. Must have been a very localised storm. Also, it wasn't a cyclone, but a severe thunderstorm, and thunderstorms don't have an 'eye', only tropical cyclones.

  • I live in mackay andd Ului is about to hit soon KEEEN!

  • i live in mackay aswell haha,

  • My house got smashed i have a beach house andd all the trees fell over and no power for 2 days and my fence got crushed by a 150 foot tree ahahah fun fun tho

  • @elmoallan55 severe storms can circulate and create an eye ( FACT ). I have expereience the " eye " of a severe storm a few years ago. It looked like a mini cyclone on the radar and behaved like one too with clockwise winds and a definitive eye.

  • your area is wack, I live in the gap and you couldnt see ANYTHING, not even the rain it was like a massive white wall was put in, no damage to my house though.

  • sweet thats my birthday

  • how are those trees even still standing after that

  • Great video Guys. I live at Sinnamon Park which is probably, as the crow fly's 10-12 klms and we got nothing like that...Great video.

  • omfg! Thats so amazing!Ahh and scary so much rain at 1:34...I'm scared of lighting and thunder lol

  • I was living there when the storm hit. My garage sloped uphill and the water was still over a ft deep @ the far end, 40m from the door. Cars wrecked, trees thrown all over the roads, massive flooding. A workmate of mine was in bed and his daughter came in and said "Daddy, my room's gone." The storm then removed the main bedroom too, only 2 mins after they managed to get their kids and hide in the bathroom. It LOOKS cool for sure, but for some people it wasn't if you were there.

    Freaky ...

  • amazing!

  • Far fucking out how heavey was the rain and that wind that was like 200kmph shit balls lol Kool video best part was 1:34

  • Ah! I don't remember that. I live South side so it might not have been as bad.

  • definitely a microburst ...i havn't seen anything like that since the 80's in brissie!!!!

  • absolutely stunning

  • Great footage! 5 stars

  • Yeah man, I remember hearing about that.

  • I'am jealous wish I could have been there.

  • This is so Australian. The images, the voice over. I love it. Thanks for uploading.

  • WHats the difference between a cyclone and a hurricane????

  • This storm wasn't actually a cyclone, I think they were just comparing it to a cyclone. A cyclone and a hurricane are the same thing - they are just called cyclones in the South Pacific and Indian Oceans, and hurricanes in the Atlantic Ocean. In the northern Pacific they are called typhoons.

  • @Laufirio where the fuck r u from kunt?

it was a cyclone aka hurricane not all fukn cyclones have to be fuckn sharp twisty pointy things u faget

  • @myronny95 Umm, I'm from Brisbane and experienced this storm, which was a thunderstorm and not a cyclone. I know that might be difficult for you to understand, since by the way you speak I doubt you finished kindergarten.

  • @Laufirio are you from the gap i had a boulder go throw my house so don`t doubt it it was like a cyclone

  • @squidgiepoo I was in Chapel Hill at the time. I think you're right - while it wasn't a cyclone the wind speed was the same. Scary stuff!

  • @myronny95 mate it wasnt a cyclone, it was a bad storm with winds that match a cyclone, u dont get cyclones in brisbane only severe storms, cyclone are for the tropics. And cyclones also last about 6-8 hours and that one lasted like 2

  • @mrbenno720 were you there i guess not

  • @squidgiepoo no i wasnt there doesnt mean i dont know the difference between a cyclone and a severe storm, did the storm form in the ocean like cyclones do? no it formed on the land, was there cyclone adviserys on the tv and radio? no, did it go for 8 straight hours with 2 days of monsoonal rain NO i guess not. It was a storm that has similar force of a cyclone, it wasnt a cyclone

  • @mrbenno720 you weren't there that is all i need to hear

  • @squidgiepoo it wasnt a cyclone thats all i need to know :)

  • @Laufirio FUCK DUDE

my family house was in this shit got a roof torn off was n was chanel 7 kunt

    for fuck sake

dont u fkn watch the news mr smart fuck

they even said it on the news u fuckhed

finished fuckn todler school fuck man ur retarded a todler cant type u fuckhed

  • @myronny95 hay you do no calling people a retard is mocking the sick kids like that

what if you of any of your family members where like that then what would you do ???? im not being mean ether

  • just different countries have different names for them., it is the same storm

  • OMFG dats so cool && supa scary :)

  • being from Kansas, I'm pretty insulated when it comes to thunderstorms, etc., but this is just jaw-dropping. What a storm.

  • you are from kansas?, don't you get tornadoes and supercells over there?

  • Looks like a cross between a supercell and a Catagory three hurricane LOL!!!

  • Footage is amazing - nice job. This storm was impressive. I only caught the rain part driving back from the gold coast, and didn't realise how much damage had been done til I visited family out on the northside.

bring on this storm season :D

  • typical qld thunder storm which this is a storm btw viewers not a cyclone just a typical storm with a added punch of insane winds 170 kmph that day i believe?? nice footage best I have seen congrats love it

  • It wasn't cyclone!

  • 1:35 onwards is immense!!

  • Immense Mannnnnnn !!!!

  • WHAAATT!!!

  • 1.32 onward....SHIIIIIT!....man i would of totally crapped myself by then.....that is so bizzare

  • now that should be one of the things you get with your three park super pass!

looks like the most fun you can have in australia haha, i love storms.

  • 2:44 You can hardly see a thing!

  • Lightening hit my grandma's tree in this storm, and all of her windows were broken with like mud and shit on the walls. Pretty insane shit.

  • Me: Just a normal storm. 1:34 OH CRAP. I live in America, and Illinois got storms like that before. We got hit by a category 1 inland hurricane, also.

  • Dude!!.. I was the shift leader for the BCC that day and to this day it remains as the 1 scariest moment in my life.. We were based on level 15 of brisbane Square in the City and saw the storm destroying The Gap and then it turned its fury towards us... Mate lets hope for all of us that it was a once in a life time event as I NEVER want to relive that storm and its aftermath!!

  • i do, despite the fact a tree went through our house and had a tarp roof for 3 months, it was fucking AWESOME

  • I will never forget this day. We lived through this storm also and it was the worse one we have ever had. Never going to forget this day! :)

  • Ahh I remember when this happened. I live at Mt Ommaney and could see it from the back of the house (someone cut a tree down so the day before, conveniently revealing Mt Cootha). House flooded a bit, plus half a meter of water in the backyard. The sky just looked freaky. So dark and green. Then we turned on the news later on and I was shocked.

    Ripped the shade sails apart.

  • come on change the name it wasnt a cyclone its a micro burst lookit up on wiki but apart from that it wasnt a good thing my friend had his arm split open when it happened

  • i still think this is one of the best storm vids on youtube. I remember watching the news here in Perth and they said the wind in this storm was about 130km/h, that is crap coz i've seen and experienced wind around 160km/h but the wind in this vid is stronger ( more like 180-200kph ). Great vid of an amazing storm.......

  • I envy you for getting to experience that!!

we had the June 07 storm / flood / ship getting beached...but our storm in Newcastle wasnt anywhere near as cool and hectic as that storm!!

    great vid and footage :)

  • loli've seen about 4 this good in the past 2 years (including this one lol) trust me you didn't want to be there! i've seen one huge hailstorm that sent me off to europe! a thunderstorm that produced a tornado 2 weeks after the hail one and a flood about a month after that. not to mention going to brisi to pick up a formal dress and running into this storm! we tried to drive a 5 min trip before it hit when we left we thought we had about 15 mins or so... in truth we had about 3. it moved fast!

  • lmao. i love the commentary subtitles.. good entertainment. haha. good footage 2.. looked awesome

  • it was awesome! i was in chermside for this one. it wasn't as bad there but it was still one heck of a wall of water! i was at a shopping center and a shopping trolly in the rooftop was blown so hard by the wind that it dinted 2 cars. it only traveled about 20m

  • lol i remember playing computer when it happened, then the power went out, looked out the window and there were small branches falling down. These branches turned into entire trees, so i though, time to move away from the window

  • I've watched this so many times. Its kinda relaxing in a chaotic way

  • me 2 haha, theres no other Brissy storm footage like it!

  • Best storm footage ever 5 stars! I think what you got was a microburst

  • I live in Ashgrove and it was pretty bad there but not as bad as the gap and our retaining wall fell down which was holding up our whole house!

  • I live in The Gap and this storm was awesome

  • We were 4WD wen this hit, intense, trees were falling down was muddy as hell, we cudnt see any thing infront of us, there was soo much water on the road in such a short time, im glad we had the 4by

  • a year later and we still dont have carpets down

  • I would have shit myself at 1:50, LOL.

  • i remember this it was a huge storm

  • wtf? at 156 157 i thought i saw people in the pool lol great video
