  • Tail light fail...

  • you made it Disguising

  • After watching this video, I am ashamed to drive a GTI that looks just like that one.

  • @TheJezza2 You can never be ashamed of driving a GTI MkV.

  • 700 bucks for some tail lights. They look good I can't lie. But there is so much more you can upgrade for that amount of money.

  • @FicoBezKocnicaBL correction. 400 bucks.

  • @FicoBezKocnicaBL They were about $500 or so plus install but they can light up much quicker than US spec ones about 14:1 ratio with LED's

  • I'm suprised your pants and shirt haven't cut off your arteries and killed you yet

  • Nice gti, I have a one and just installed the apr software if I wanted to install these tail lights with fog light, I will have to mess around with ecu to convert them into euro spec. Do you think there will be some interference with apr and euro spec conversion???

  • @jjess8757 Not at all they are not related... I have APR Stage 2 and it does not interfere with it at all. But you need someone with VAG-COM expertise... they will need to recode it and add extra wires for Euro Spec to work properly. Euro code rules! SAE sucks and needs to catch up with the times:-D

  • How do you turn on the fog lights and the headlights at the same time?

  • @merts487 I have the Euro Switch so it is the 4th position (FULLY ON) and the 5th position pulled out once. For rear fog you pull it out in the 6th position.

  • Keep on Dubbing brotha

  • Pretty : )

  • No offence, as you know I love you'r vids, but you look VERY different from what I imagined xDD

    I

  • u should get the white LEDs for ur sidemarkers. that way u totally rid ur car of ambers

  • @07GTIsociety I do like the amber glow at night. But I am thinking of painting the lights white or buying those completely white ones. HMM?

  • @gtiman67 hmmmm

  • @GarrettKeetley yeah I noticed that HELLA had Mark 5 JETTA tail lights that could be programmed to be differing colors... AWESOME! I didn't know they were blue though!?

  • u sir have an awesome car

  • @VWTDiMan99 Many thanks

  • How did you figure out the Euro coding??? I have recently purchased these same lights. I have taken them to my local VW tuner shop. The lights work but my dashboard as a "check" light symbol on. As well as several error messages pop up. Saying that the rear left and right lights not working etc... Please help!! any info would be greatly appreciated and useful!! thanks

  • @XLMNT76 Do they know long code VAG-COM? They should be able to reflash it once they get them working as a Euro GTI error message should go away. Also it could mean it is now Euro and you do not have the Rear fog light installed like you should. You need an extra wire from your switch to your ECU. Plus you need 2 more wires attached to taillights for amber section to work!?

  • @gtiman67 Also do you think that the lights must be wired right if the lights all work?

  • @XLMNT76 Also the Euro GTI tails have a 3 wire setup USA specs have only a 2 wire system!?

  • @gtiman67 Thanks for ur reply. Yes the shop knows that the lights are a 3 wire set up. the amber section of the lights work, but the rear fog & front fogs do not work. since the shop blew out my euro switch. Do you think that is why I am receiving the error messages? Do you think that they will go away once the fog feature is hooked and the reflash is done? But still do you have or know where I would be able to provide them with a wiring diagram?

  • @XLMNT76 Yes

  • eat rice. dont drive it. congrats. you riced out your GTI.

  • Are these OEM? And how much for the whole deal?

  • Nice, so how much faster can your car go than a stock GTI now that your tail lights are "european code"?

  • About that much...

  • @commonsense369

Jealous much? It's better looking than the nasty red turn signals, who cares that it doesn't make the car faster.

  • @gablackburn : sensitive much? lol. yeah jealous about these tail lights? Not likely, I am bored so I'll take a minute to reply to silly posts on youtube.

One day when you move out of your parents basement, you'll discover more pressing life issues than the color of your tail lights.

  • what is the difference between european and US coded?

  • lots of difference, once you changed the country code to Euro, for one thing, chimes will be disabled on some features and the MFD will change as well. You can also enable the inner lights and bi-xenon both active in high-beam mode.

  • @jonray74

    how does the mfd change?

  • when u select German or British, the metrics will change from miles to kms i think. Also, seatbelt chimes will disappear. I also read some issues on the radio reception changing as well.

I haven't done any country change on my car since i wanna keep it US/CDN version with Euro features and didn't wanna go thru those hassles.

  • the only thing i've changed in my car with VAG-COM is basically the lighting features (ie. front/rear fogs enabled). Also disabled the DRL features that uses the BI-XENON. with VAG-COM I just use the Fog lights as the DRL.

  • nice! thanks for the post, I actually just got my rear-fog lights, so will be installing that piece sometime and VAG-COM it, should be fairly easy. Im not a Hella fan, but it looks nice on CW, i have the same color as well. thanks!

  • nice.

    its so gloss.

    *****

  • Yes! VW actually dips the WHOLE car into a giant vat of paint so there isn't a part that is unpainted inside and out!

  • now that i see the lights here they r pretty ok :D ^^ my vw is from germany loving it but i love ur :D side markers we don't got those :(

  • Nice video... I have a 08 GTI and wanna know how to place the euroswitch? Thanks...

  • You will have to get it recoded as a european GTI with VAG-COM it is not easy to do on your own!?

  • @gtiman67

if i put the euro code does that mess up my APR Chip?

  • @NickPushka No... the 2 are not related. At one point they input into your GTI a directive that makes your GTI think it is an R32 in Germany?!... That is how got the amber sections to work! At one point... in long code it is something like 00000019000000 that makes it work properly:)

  • Nice video> Just wanted to chime in and say you don't have to run a 4th wire. Just move the three wire down by one. And is that a edition 30 steering wheel. Nice

  • Thanks!

  • dadadam dadadom XD

  • how hard was it to run the extra wires for the fog and the reverse, and what did you connect them to? ive seen a couple of guys with the same set ups but their fogs/reverse arent conected. i got a MKV too i think yours is bad ass.

  • No, not at all... your VW dealership actually carries the correct wires that you will need. Ask your VW tuner shop for the part # and pick it up for about $4 at the dealership!? It is only about 6-8 inches long and is attached directly from your "EURO" style switch to your ECU. I think its clipped on with a type of very small clip. Then you have to VAG-COM reprogram car to accept changes for bulb fault codes you will get. You do not need a wire for reverse light, as it should also work now.

  • this guy hsd these in waterfest and had them slightly smoked looked so dope

  • no problem, great car, great job, keep it up!

  • Looks good or maybe better, but don't over decorated it, it might get too much...just my opinion though.

  • Agreed... I like it just Candy White!

  • i am pretty jealous, thats a sick car!

get the side markers with white led lights.

it looks so good, and a cop never stopped my friend who did it in cali

  • Thanks for the advice and the compliment... I want to do the license plate LED's next!

  • Hello sir I needed you to know that your car is badass. I want one. haha and brian the mk4 has nothing on the 5, I sold volkswagens and there is no comparison

  • I agree

  • mk4 will eat you alive.
