  • 3.58 MHZ?! HOLY THAT'S THE SAME AS THE SNES!

  • If this survived the crash of 1983 do you think the colecovision could have stood a chance against the NES if coleco released an 8-bit expansion module and a newer controller?

  • @joshbot360 I doubt it really has the scrolling HW the NES has BUT better controllers would have been a must! But even the SMS with superior graphics and decent controllers didn't stand a chance against Nintendo in the 80's.

  • Nice set!

  • @09:46 I see a typo :P And I don't think Atari could have sued Coleco, considering Atari's console had no custom chips and anyone could produce clones legally... then again I'm no lawer

  • @MN12BIRD - I have a suggestion - quit talking incessantly about the Intellivision. SO many systems were SO much better than that hunk 'o junk. One of them being right in front of you in this vid. I realize you're trying to make a comparison, but if you have a ton of Intellivision loyalists as your fans, you need new fans.

  • 5:22 Oh no! Its E.T.!

  • Nice hall.

Atari did try to sue Coleco for the 2600 add on, but the court ruled that the 2600 could be recreated by off the self parts, so Atari couldn't do anything.

Also the Intellivision also had a similar add on for it's console which allowed the same thing.

  • is that a sega cd, mounted under the genesis/mega drive!?

  • @Rickythemaniac Yeah that how the original model 1 Sega CD was then there was the later model 2 Sega CD that went on the side with a pop open door.

  • This system is awesome, I Wish coleco would come out with the ''ColecoVision II'' from spring 1984 to December 29, 1984 So i won't have to spend a lot of money on the model 1. But still a great system!

  • it was discontinued because of the video game crash

  • @mariojuggernaut22 whats "the video game crash"?

  • as far as I know, the Video Game Crash of 1983 was a time where so many poorly made games were being made, and rushed to the market for the holiday season, such as Pac-Man and ET, both on the Atari 2600. Customers sold their copies back to Atari because they didn't live up to their standards or something like that. I think Atari could've been bankrupt because of this as well, but I could be wrong. Somebody could explain this better than I can for now lol XD

  • of that expansion #1 went out today there would be lawsuits up the ass

  • @demonslayer1000 lol nice avgn reference

  • the origanial ET game you have there is worth bookou bucks on ebay ;)

  • atari did sue coleco but didnt pay royalties. the module use components not found in the 2600 and didnt infrig atari's patent

  • wow Jake, you really got a good score there! you have a great collection of colecovision stuff right off the bat

  • I got one a few days ago with Expansion #1, Expansion #2, one Super Action Controller, The Roller Controller and 41 cartridges (along with over 60 Atari 2600 carts and a handful of Intellivision carts) for $60.00. I posted a video on my channel if you want to check out the haul!

  • i got mine for 100, but its mint and it came with 20 friken awesome games

  • i got 25 games with booklets, 2 regular controllers, 2 coaxial controllers, colecovision, and connector jack

  • mint condition ? wow! mines in great condition also

  • Got one Monday for $25. No games, though. I can try and find a few.

    Awesome videos.

  • i got mine yesterday with expansion module 1 for 25 buck with everything execpt an RF out

  • what really killed the colecovision, was the Adam computer. If coleco had stayed away from the cpu market. Colecovision would have ruled the gaming market.

  • thanks for the overview of the celeco, a good machine, that had an early death thanks to the crash of the home video game market...

  • They hated the layout of the Atari 5200 controller, but hey, on a Colecovision, they didn't even have to question it!

The Intellivision controller is actually MORE like a phone than either controller!

  • i never really had a problem with the 5200 controllers, but it's odd ppl bitch about the 5200 controllers, and don;t even hardly notice them on the celeco...

  • What's the song in the begging?

  • sega cd model 1 intro

  • Thanks but I had figured it out when I turned on My Sega CD. :) LOL

  • what did u pay?

  • O2 ruled too.

  • Love it.

  • u sem to know alot about game systems when was the first game system ever made?

  • odyssey by magnavox, mid 70's

  • You're wrong. I heard about the Brown Box, which came out in the 60's.

  • People sure do love to argue on here. Im not one.

You dont have to say "Your wrong." I am not. Do you have any links / proof of the "brown box" from the 60's? If not, dont go around telling people they are wrong.. because actually, YOU are wrong.

The "Brown Box" was created in 1967, and was released by Magnavox as the Odyssey in 1972.

    Do more research before replying.

And if you want to get technical, the first video game was made in 1947 by Thomas Goldsmith Jr. using analog diodes.

  • Dude chill, i didn't mean that in a bad way. And no, i'm not trying to start an argument. Big deal, so I accused you of being wrong and made a mistake we're only human dude. Sorry.

  • the brown box was a prototype of the odyssey not a different system

  • The intellivision's CPU may have ben slow, but it was a 16 bit processor (16 bit registers), albeit using a 10 bit instruction set.

And although the MOS 6502 was only half the clock speed of the Z80 (the 2600's 6507 even slower), it was still able to compete due to some other features. (see wikipedia's page on the 6502)

  • i always loved the coleco. had an awesome look.

friend had seizure playing montazuma's revenge!

if there had only been warnings on the box!

  • your reviews are the most interesting for me,you explain a lot of the system itself and it's specs, lots of reviewers focus on the games only,so keep it up mate!

  • Things to note. You ahave a foreign Colecovision (see script above expansion module and well as double corded power supply). You are missing the label warning on the to of the Colecovision. Great system and some good games. I have all the orginal games in box give or take 10 or so. Best system of all time

  • Good job there! One of my all time fav systems.

I prefer to use my Super Action Controllers with it but overall great system. YOU SHOULD get the ATARIMAX 128 in 1 MULTI CART, it is amazing, transfer original ROMS to the cart by PC/USB, plug in the cart and choose from a menu on the CV any game, also great to check out unreleased or prototype and homebrew games. I will be makng a video review of it soon.......

  • my power supply plugs into the wall

  • umm well yea but my block dont have the little cord that plugs into the wall it just has the prongs on it

  • if anyone can help, i broke mine last night, i forgot turn it off and this afternoon i want to play with it but the only thing it do, it was starting and stop in like 1 second, i think i have burn the power suply but i dont know if any mn12bird fan could help that could be fine.

  • i had one but my cousin broke it so i hit him and got grounded for like a month a few years back

  • great vid

it looks like a nice system

  • what is it like having so many cool sytems?

  • Complete, with expansion modules and controllers. Great!

I did spot one mistake in the specs you are giving at the beginning, it's not 32 colors.

    Well done review.

  • 04:25 "This is the end that plug into the Intellivision"

Its nice to show that, but not in a ColecoVision review =P

  • D'oh! Way to notice!

  • Great system! Way better than 2600 in my opinion. I used to have Zaxxon for that years ago. How much do they go for nowadays?

  • Oh yeah its WAY better than the 2600 but the 2600 came out in 1977 and this in 1983 so its 5 years newer so it should be. I got everything in the video for $50 but normally it would cost double that or more.

  • What Sega CD BIOS is that music from?

  • The front loading Sega CDs.

  • I know that, but what version?

  • Model 1.

  • Its from the NSTC Model 1 Sega CD BIOS

  • weird,this video show's a blank screen!!!!!!!

  • Colecovision.

  • good review jake thats insane that they took a system from a differnt company lol like who would even try that.

  • The AVGN's Colecovision had the power supply on the end of the cord, which ends it in that annoying brick, which is even more annoying because it's so big, why is yours different?

  • Hrm good question. I guess they changed it at some point?

  • All the power supplies for ColecoVision I had in my life, and I had a lot, was all like this one with a standard plug, not like the one in double vision video.

  • Also, you can plug in the controller for an Atari 2600 or Sega Genesis into the system. (Learned about this from the AVGN's review on the ColecoVision)

  • You're new intro makes me wish I had a model 1 CD and genesis.

  • An expantion moduel to play atari 2600 games?

I wonder what atari was like when they found out that it was being sold. I'm amazed that you have one but how much did all this cost and does it all work?

  • lol i like mn12bird way better then the angry video game nerd

  • Did you get the gemini's paddle/joystick controller in your lot?

  • Great Find!! Oh and i forgot to ask is your sega cd fully working now??

  • Yeah didn't you see the video? It works most of the time now. Sometimes you have to open and close it a few times but it will go eventually.

  • $50 omg thats the best deal ever!!!! cant beleive it lol and with all the accessories

you are lucky being that cheap!!!

  • Yeah I didn't even know it was going to come with all the extra controllers and the 2600 expansion thingy.

  • atari did sue but the court upheld coleco because it could be made with generic parts

  • Hey Jake, very cool vid man, your system reviews are always spot on as usual, I played the Coleco for a bit when I was a kid, I owned the 2600 but knew a few kids that had the C.V...that of course was eons ago, the game I remember the most was The Smurfs and actually had good graphics for its time. U should review a few of these games for the Coleco that would be awesome!!! Keep up the Good Work ;)

  • Jake, you should review E.T. It would be funny.

  • where u buy it and whats new theme song

  • Those two pronged power leads you refer to are actually called "figure 8 leads", Found that out as I needed one for my FM Towns Marty I bought, and needed a US power lead, took hours to find one online as I didn't know what they were called.

  • how much did you pay?

I just seen one on craigslist

and it is nice Colecovision cib, wheal controllers cib, 44 lose games, and two of the sports controllers cib all mint going to offer

$100.00 see if he takes it

  • I paid $50 for everything in the video.

  • Damn Jake, thats a huge lot of accesories and games that you have receieved!! Awesome find man!!

  • luckily Nintendo invented Controllers...I mean...can't be realy cool to play on this "Number-Keyboard-Joystick-Pad"? But its oldschool, wich makes it nice again. Thanks for this Review

  • Cool, I had this system, too :-) I was quite cool...

  • lol all spam lol lol

  • The expansion module you have reminds me of Bleemcast ;)

Interesting review, I actually came into this knowning absolutely nothing about Colecovision, I learned alot.

Question - is the game at the bottom right at the end Zaxxon?

  • Yep! Made by SEGA.

  • how much did all this cost you?

  • $50 for the lot. Not bad.

  • Man, what a bunch of acessories you've got!Great review, as always.

  • OMG AWESOME INTRO!!! GREAT REVIEW!!!

  • nice review

  • this sounds like the dreamcast of the 1980's too. good specs, a fair few games, and probably a decent following back in the 80's, but it died due to the crash!

  • haha is that music from winter olympics or summer athletics on the mega drive/genesis? i recognise it!

  • Its from the NSTC Model 1 Sega CD BIOS.

  • Please keep your old intro it was a lot better!

  • awesome

  • i like the old intro music more

  • You should set up a museum of video game systems. Lol.

  • great review.

  • god,, the memories,, i remember playing this at 5, soo good too see u got 1. hope u have tons of fun on it,, my fave games were venture, turbo, dk j, jumpman junior, mousetrap. only had 1 atari game for my ex mod 1. pitfall2.

nar they couldnt sue cause coleco used only non ip parts..but i mean it was pretty obivious. funny how the atari cart goes backwards aye..

  • Good review.
