hey, fanboy is there anyway that you could let us read BATMAN:Legends of the Dark Knight/sanctum its drawn and i think written by mike mignola. its the single greatest batman story that i have ever read.
Miracleman ('Marvelman' as was) was very well written. I read it as it was originally published in Warrior. The story, I think, inspired The Matrix. There are fight scenes and the entire virtual reality element seem very similar to what became The Matrix. Alan Moore was arguably at his best at this time, as he wrote this he was also publishing V for Vendetta in the same magazine. V was later made into a film by the same guys that made...uh...The Matrix.
One of the greatest comicbook stories ever written. I consider this to be Alan Moore's best story. I know that's a bold statement, considering his tremendous body of work including "Watchmen" and "V for Vendetta" and his Swamp Thing run on DC, however if you're lucky enough to read this sixteen issue run, you might agree.
very nice work but you guys missed alot of fact on todd mcfarlane. he never purchased the miracleman charecter, only the 80's MM logo. 2. micheal moran *MM other self* appeared im hellspawn, with todd wantinf to revive miracle at the end of the 13th issue but was sued by gaiman befor it hit the press. so todd came up with the man of miracles. M.O.M explain his appearnce as mike/ MM by saying every person see's him different.
Mumble Man 4tw. Watchmen whilst fantastic, I wouldnt say was a "more fully formed" than MM. The Alan moore, Neil Gaimen MM is some of the best comic literature going. Whereas Judge Dredd is my favorite character in comics by far, the AM/NG MMs are my favorite comics by far.
The sheer compulsivity Miracleman inspired in me as a teenager to snap up issues whenever they came out (if they ever came out) inspired a world of imagination through the seat-my-pants early issues, the crummy art and 3-D fad in the middle period, the breathtaking denoument at the end of the Alan Moore run, and even in the odd experimental tales by Neil Gaiman. My only regret was that the mom of the proprietor of the shop I frequented would not sell me the Birth issue...
@619badazz13 listen superman is strong and powerful but he can never beat miracleman. miracleman has the power of a universe. in his golden age adventures he could travel back in time, lift a whole continent and fly across the galaxy.
One thing I never figured out: towards the ''end'' of the comics thus far, given that Earth is becoming more & more dangerous with the humans' new power, why don't the aliens simply pull the plug?
I loved the depection of Gargunza's death. Crushing his larynx and dragging him into the upper atmosphere with one hand on his throat and hurling him to earth, burning up on re-entry - only a charred pelvis remaining.
I'd love to a conclusion of this publication, it was hinted that the villain Bates may return.
any one else notice that the senty story was very simular to the miracleman story? (both heroes forgot they where superheroes, both are blonde supermen, and both there human alter ego's are over weight. i kinda felt if the sentry was written by alan moore or neil gaiman it would have been considered a masterpeice
I use to see Miracle-Man back in the day and never paid it any mind since it wasn't Marvel or DC. Now I wish i could have it ...... So I could sell it on Ebay!
No, that is stupid. What you are doing is applying a human need to sacrifice and become a messianic figure to an alien. Miracleman is an alien who has some human foibles but is not really human. The end of issue 16 should have been the end.
@douginamerica Give me some examples then. All I know is that in MM the paneling is rarely wasteful and usually adds to the story or setting. In Watchmen, the panels are part of what makes the book one of the best in the genre, and in V for Vendetta, the story-telling was fairly concise, panels included.
I havent read From Hell or League of Extra-ordinary Gentlemen though.
I heart this entire run, besides Moore's bombastic dialogue that choked some issues with incessent narrative all of these comics were pure gold for me
After the golden age, Gaimen was just starting on the silver age with the bringing back from the dead of Young Miricleman Dicky Dauntless (What a name!) and then was going to move into the dark age where he was going to bring back Johnny Bates Kid Miracleman, this deserves to be finished and published, hopefully Marvel can re-print the original run and then get Gaimen and Buckingham back on board to finish it.
sit in chairs or sofa chairs with arm rests on them. That L-shaped sofa is awkward. Those three guys are rocking back and forth and side to side, not quite knowing what to do with their arms and hands while they're speaking. Arm rests on a chair would solve that problem.
Splendid stuff. Well done you chaps for giving a comprehensive and accessible precis of the Marvelman/Miracleman heritage.
I suppose it is now all up to the Powers That Be at Marvel what happens next. It would make sense for Gaiman and Buckingham to finish what they started, and considering Gaiman fought long and hard to rebutt MacFarlane's claims I imagine he can be persuaded.
Is this true? Has Marvel really purchased the rights to Miracleman? Does anyone know if they plan to republish the old comics or are they going in a new direction, either way it'll be great to see the character in print again, Kimota!

Along with V For Vendetta, just about my favourite Alan Moore stuff. Amazing run.

These kids are too thickheaded to appreciate Alan Moore's writing. His whole idea was to make comics something you READ.

@chodeshadar18
No I agree that some of the problems in Alan's writing is too flowery. He has panels with nothing going on.

Do they know that much about the comics industry?
