Who the hell is gordan watson? This is a fun piece as a take off from wagner who knew little about the pianoforte. Cziffra has transformed a mediocre overtue into a masterpiece.

Like Gordon Watson said many years ago, Cziffra makes his presence known only by the banging and clanging of keys...Only Katchen plays faster but is speed everything, sure it differentiates from the rest but?
@s1earle That is horribly incorrect. Many pianists, most very well known play it at a similar speed. Cziffra certainly does not bang or clang keys, I believe you might be look for Lang Lang in that case. Nevertheless, I imagine that Cziffra is the sort of pianist that either you love him or hate him which is fair enough.
Fantastic - I prefer this to his earlier version. The added embellishments only add to the excitement of Cziffra's performance. The double octaves are like a tsunami. Bolet's 'live' Carnegie Hall account is also very good.
I've uploaded the full version btw

Can you believe he could play like this after a huge war with swollen fingers and damaged hands? Amazing!
