Can anyone tell me how to harmonise sweep picking sections (minor 3rds, or anything that sounds awesome for metal)? I can harmonise normal riffs and shit just i can't seem to harmonise arpeggios correctly! Help would be appreciated a lot!!!
@555ShadowStar666 Hey what I do is I Take the main arpeggio most likely to be the minor in metal and i go three frets up from the root note and then do a major shape that harmonize string for string so u might want to use the octave (next string 5 frets down thing) and make sure the harmonys go together in that chord tipe thing. and with the major shape (harmonizer) make sure there in the same scale as the main arpeggio (minor) good luck, hope it helps!!

@555ShadowStar666 well, when ur picking notes out a scale u like for arpeggiating, going up the harmonizing key in the same minor shape would just change the key and those notes r most likley not to be in the same scale when u change the shape in to the major you can keep the the same key with the harmonizing notes! look at the song blackened, or master of puppets. learn both parts of the harmonizing solos in those songs and youll see what i mean!

Agreed. Ascendancy (the best) just had more melodical riffs (??), which I love. Shogun's simply beautiful, and Crusade wasn't my taste. (Too much Metallica-like. Only digged Conflagration and Detonation)

riff wise its pretty hard to learn the notes but once you have that you need a steady picking hand to play the palm mutes also a good fret hand would help alot because you will be playing super fast

@sully93 i'm going to be very dissapointed if everything's like shattering the skies above. Their newer style hasn't grown on me yet. but you have to keep in mind that it's just one song that's made for god of war. i don't think everything's about that kinda theme - atleast hopefully :D.. But we'll see in several months.

The Crusade and Ascendancy are on a tie: Crusade is better overall musicall wise, while Ascendancy is a hell of alot more brutal. Ember To Inferno is like meh with 3 good songs tbh

Apart, main riff,chorus and solo to tread, verses and chorus to Content, The entire song the Rising and The entire song the Crusade doesnt have heart. There are too many solos on that album but the music and lyrics are what make that album great.

The solo's all just sound like shredfest with no purpose. take the solo from detonation for example and compare it to something ridiculously melodic with alot of feel, like say the solo from the decieved or declaration. Yeah they have the shred and the sweep picking, but at it's hear those solo's have a helluvalot more feel that the slayer-shredfest that are most of the solo's on the crusade.
Don't get me wrong the crusade has some great riffs.
@Retsiness For instance, BTD ha ssome awesome riffs and a great bass solo, TTF has a great opening riff but falls apart straight after than with a half assed attempt at being thrashy. The only song i genuinly like all the way through from the crusade is entrance.

Hey, each to they're own...if you genuinely loved the crusade, then good for you....but i genuinely cringed through 80% of it, and i'm a HUGE trivium fan, have been since Ember to Inferno. Oppinions are oppinons, but i'd be lying if i said that i thought The Crusade was a good album.

Every band has one crap album. It's true...name a band..and i'll tell you at least one album by them that was under par. well every band that has been going for along time, the only real exception i can find right now is Alter Bridge, who have 3 AMAZING albums....but they're bound to hit a low at some point. The Crusade was VASTLY different from the other trivium albums, they completely changed the tone of the song writing and borrowed too much from other bands rather than staying true to what they were best at. Trivium are not a "thrash" band, persay....and they proved this well by debuting the crusade.....it's just not as good.

i guess i'm the only one who loves EVERY ALBUM from Triv.
Ember was their first - but it was a great one if you look at other ones.
Ascendancy was their second and in my honest opinion their second best.
Crusade was their third and i really loved that ''vibe'' of the album, let's hear anthem, entrance of the conflagration, the crusade....
and then there is SHOGUN.
The most meaningful Album in TODAYS Metalhistory. Really fuckin sick album with a whole lot of THRASH METAL in it

@sully93 i'm going to be very dissapointed if everything's like shattering the skies above. Their newer style hasn't grown on me yet. but you have to keep in mind that it's just one song that's made for god of war. i don't think everything's about that kinda theme - atleast hopefully :D.. But we'll see in several months.

@ViGMetal word up. Shogun ftw, best album since I started to listen to them thanks to it and the most thrashy of them all, which I prefer. The Crusade and Ascendancy are on a tie: Crusade is better overall musicall wise, while Ascendancy is a hell of alot more brutal. Ember To Inferno is like meh with 3 good songs tbh

@renegademan631 it's because people are pissed that Trivium wrote an 80's metal-type album that was better than any of the albums written by Metallica, so they hate on it. But all of their fans know that so theris nothing to worry about. Metal is making a comeback with the most talented musician(s) ever, and Trivium is one of them.

@ViGMetal i totaly agree with you.appart from the bit about the crusade. Even trivium have said that that album was a mistake. it wasn't a trivium album. where was the screaming? where was the face-melting melody on the other 3 albums?
And damn it i'm a hardcore trivium fan, i've seen them many times, i've got signed albums. i've met them, and own multiple copies of every album. EVEN THE CRUSADE. hell i even own the Anthem single. but there is just no getting away from it, the crusade was crap.

If you did you would know that The Crusade was a very unique album and they changed their sound and became a better band because of it. @Blackmark456 verses and chorus A.S.W.Sear, All of the parts wears theres singing in T.W.C.T.U. Apart, main riff,chorus and solo to tread, verses and chorus to Content, The entire song the Rising and The entire song the Crusade doesnt have heart. There are too many solos on that album but the music and lyrics are what make that album great.

@Retsiness Well, the lyrics TBH are a bit crap. The solo's all just sound like shredfest with no purpose. take the solo from detonation for example and compare it to something ridiculously melodic with alot of feel, like say the solo from the decieved or declaration. Yeah they have the shred and the sweep picking, but at it's hear those solo's have a helluvalot more feel that the slayer-shredfest that are most of the solo's on the crusade.
Don't get me wrong the crusade has some great riffs.

@Retsiness For instance, BTD ha ssome awesome riffs and a great bass solo, TTF has a great opening riff but falls apart straight after than with a half assed attempt at being thrashy. The only song i genuinly like all the way through from the crusade is entrance.
Also, could you try making sence in you're posts, use good grammar and maby i'll be able to understand what you mean propperly.
And sadness will sear is boring, TWCTUA is just a soppy cheesefest that i can't listen to.

Hey, each to they're own...if you genuinely loved the crusade, then good for you....but i genuinely cringed through 80% of it, and i'm a HUGE trivium fan, have been since Ember to Inferno. Oppinions are oppinons, but i'd be lying if i said that i thought The Crusade was a good album.
Nothing has NO faults, even trivium cant get away from that.

The Crusade was VASTLY different from the other trivium albums, they completely changed the tone of the song writing and borrowed too much from other bands rather than staying true to what they were best at. Trivium are not a "thrash" band, persay....and they proved this well by debuting the crusade.....it's just not as good.

@Retsiness Realy, you think that ascendancy is a trash album? well....now lets look at how you would define 'thrash' id say thrash can be summed up by 4 albums...master of puppets, among the living, reign in blood and rust in peace...or at least...metallica, slayer, megadeth and anthrax. saying that ascendancy is closer to that kind of sound than the crusade is is just ludacris. yeah it's fast and heavy but it's not got that thrashy feel to it.
I was always relivant, not only now.

So i know that The crusade was very technicaly "showy" but had no "core" to it. It was an empty album, showing only the very mathsy metal side of trivium.
DON'T MAKE ASUMPTIONS ABOUT A PERSON BEFORE YOU START TALKING CRAP ABOUT THEM.

You can't say the chorus to ignition, the entire end of Detonation, the solo section of Entrance, The entire song the Anthem(we are the fire), pre-chorus and chorus of Unrepentant, Solo section and bridge of B. the Dragon,

... That is the funniest and most untrue statement I've heard. I am a huge thrash metal fan, and trivium has never touched that Genre. Not even close. Are you saying that the stuff on Shogun is thrash? Because if so you better keep your musical opinions about genres out of videos.
