  • What if at 7:09 there's no character showing up but all grey? Did the other steps as recommended.

  • At 3:11 you should mention that you right-click on envelope_deformers. Took me ages to figure out.

  • My shared animations are titled 90 degrees when i try to replace the reference model of citizen with my own mesh. So basically if I can't fix this I have to replace all citizen animations with my own.

    It's these things that ruin the experience of modding. An endless parade of awkward, un-intuitive processes and errors. After years of development I can't wait to finish my mod and never do this kind of thing again.

  • @linkspecialproximity because the animation for that attack is not in that model he must not have put in the .qc probably

  • Why did you put mdl and texture file in the ''hlmp'' folder and put compiled model in ''hl'' folder? I'm asking because I'm trying to figure out how to import character in Half Life 2 from 3ds Max and I'm kinda lost.

  • I got a problem, after I use rig from guide it won't let me delete the guide. It looks like that maybe it stops half way through the process, but there is no error or anything.

  • My friend rigged a ragdoll I made and in game it keeps colliding with it self, it's model is fine but we want it to not collide with it self as a ragdoll. It is a custom rig. Any ideas?

    I simply can't get vtex to work. It just WON'T work and I've tried everything I've found on the half life 2 encyclopedia. It wasted 3 hours of my life.

  • Edit: Oops. Stupid me, I didn't follow your tutorial correctly. I ended up trying to compile the .smd file using vtex instead. A stupid move from my side.

    i've followed this and the xsi dvd tutorials and everything works great apart from when i add him to the half life models directory i get an invisible model in game.

  • Forgive me for this dumb question, but how do you edit weights, I don't want my char to have horribly mutilated ribs when he moves his arms ;)

    And how come my the feet don't follow the leg bone's movements?

  • In XSI you can edit the weights of points on an envelope in several ways: by painting, by setting numerical values, by smoothing, by locking, by mirroring symmetrically or by limiting the number of deformers per point and enforcing that limit. I would recommend looking at the XSI documentation where all those techniques are described. You can also find more info or download the free XSI Basics Guide on the Softimage Wiki.

  • In this video I refer to the "Noesis Interactive" DVD's. I'd recommend, "3D Content Creation with SOFTIMAGE|XSI" and "Character Design & Integration with HL2 -

    SOFTIMAGE|XSI". You can also look at the Papervision3D content creation tutorial I just added on youtube, I cover simple texturing in it also.

  • Definitely!! Everything you saw in this video is available in the Mod Tool. It even contains advanced features like Polygon Reduction, UltiMap, RenderMap, GATOR and MOTOR.

  • Hi, to get access to the video I'm talking about which are available for free, go on the Softimage web site > products > XSI Mod Tool section. You can download them from there. Also, you can simply download the free XSI 6 Mod Tool and can watch these videos directly within the application (in the XSI Net View).

  • With GATOR, MOTOR, Ultimap, Rendermap and the advanced Polygon reduction feature, XSI is definitly the *best* aggregator! :) Plus the nice Valve addon integration, the choice is easy!
