  • the kit comes with the engine or just the body?

  • Hi Alex,

I scratched built this Kit. Ordered the nose cone from Semroc BNC-80AO and BT-80 Body 14.25" cut down to 13.5". Bought the engine mount from uncle mikes rocket shack a Cygnus 24mm to BT80 along with a 36" Red Nylon Parachute. Ordered the Decals BT-80 Upscale Der Red Max Decal from excelsiorrocketry. Bought Balsa Fin Material 1/8" from a local Hobby Shot. The plans are at JimZ Plans in PDF format and unscaled at a 150% Traced that to paper and cut the fins out by hand.

  • Nice build, you should use a nylon chute though, plastic chutes don't unfold well...

  • Hi AerotechMan101,

Thank you and your quite right about the plastic chutes. I added a 36" Nylon Parachute.

    Have a great weekend.

  • Great! Have you had better luck with it? I can maybe get some videos of my rockets up this may...if i have a working Camcorder by then.

  • Yes I have better luck with it. I should have use a bigger chute the first time the NC is balsa wood. I in the process of building a upscale Der Big Red Max. Good luck with video taping some of your rockets and look forward to seeing the video.

  • Thank you for the sub. I will hopefully get a decent camcorder ready for this may...

What did you fly it on in this video. I would appear it's an Estes motor.

  • Your welcome and I flew it on a Estes C11-3 just see how it would fly. It fly's great on a D12-5. I plan getting some

Aero Tech RMS Reloadable Motor Hardware the 18mm and 24mm.

  • C11? those are the 24mm correct?

    I have a RMS 29/40-120,

    29/240

    38/480

    54/1706

  • Yes your correct and those are some great RMS you have. I'm going try and get my level 1 certification this year. I'm BAR just got back into Rocketry about 3 years ago. I'm having a blast all over again.

  • Yes they are a lot of fun...i fly more L1 than L2...K motors for my 54/1706 are over $100 per reload.

But i do fly them occasionally

  • Sorry for late reply been off line for a few days. I'm going to move up to Level one later this year or next year, I still need to join NAR I seen one guy on a rocket forum they were launching a Saturn V it motors cost $500.

  • Hi simav8r. Your are right about the nose blow recovery. I think it has some thing to do with large fin design.

  • Cool. I've noticed a few times that the Red Max does pretty well with accidental nose-blow recoverey. I guess that doesn't change with the scale up.
