Thank you for the voice of reason! you and I have both seen first hand that the environmentalists have down right lied to the American people in order to prevent drilling in Alaska... Not sure why they are so against drilling with the proof that no animals, people and land is damaged by the drilling.
Since Obama has been in office, gas is up 87% ($1.34/gallon in Feb. 2009 to the national average of $3.58 today). Last week in Ca , I paid $4.19 it will be over $5.00 by Christmas... it will not go down.
Remember, Obama said his plan would cause energy prices to “skyrocket.” This is one promise he has kept.
As an Inupiaq Eskimo from the village of Kaktovik, I completely disagree with Fenton Rexford on the possible development of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge for oil exploitation. The coastal plain of ANWR represents only 5% of the recoverable oil in the Arctic. And oil recovered from ANWR would only supply 4 percent of the USA's use of oil in one year. It's not worth it.
Thank you for this informative video. I have supported drilling in ANWR since the 1990's. It's time to get going on this. The American people are in favor by a sizable majority, so it is time for the power-crazed, anti-democratic Democrats to bring this issue to a vote.
All we would accomplish by more drilling (anywhere) is to further our "addiction to oil." It is false logic to engage in more drilling. It would just continue to enable our society into incorrect beliefs.
We should TRUELY end our "addiction to oil" by investing the funds that would go toward drilling into other, more sustainable, areas of energy production.
I wonder how much they paid the speaker and how much they (the oil companies) promise to pay the Inuit people of ANWR. Hmmmm.
i will never understand you people you say it will further our addiction so we need to stop it oilis not cocaine if you stop using cocaine you get healther and more motivated, if we stop using oil abruptly or let the gas prices continue to climb our economy is going to be crushed. enough people know americans want alternative energy when a sound solutions is found we the consumers will not hesitate. please use your heads what is wrong with helping the average american and creating jobs?
Please name one alternative energy which we could afford to make the switch too overnight. Unfortuantly there is no answer to that question, especially with a weekend economy. We need to slowly ween ourselves off oil as the government continues to subsidize the alternative technologies, we can't just switch overnight.
how can a government so far away from the people that live there tell them what to do with there land.. alaskans sould sue...and win.. fuck the liberal fascist
oh so now because somone disagrees with you noble opinion they are ignorant. the nature of the issue is that americans are getting massacared at the pumps every day and YOU want it to continue... i bet you have plenty of money tho dont you.
The lack of education is the rise of ignorance. Ignorance is plainly stating that you don't know. It sounds like you are the ignorant one. I don't mean to sound disrespectful, I am just making a statement. The Dems have our country under siege. They were elected by the People of the US. Our economy is suffering in a major way. It sounds as if you are ignorant to that fact. This is not to continue an "Addiction," as you put it. We are hostages to the Mid East. Can we say "NATIONAL SECURITY?"
Thank you for educating users on ANWR and the Native Alaskan perspective on energy development near Indian land. I think too often it's skewed against development, when infact, if done correctly, it can be done for the benefit of Alaskans and all Americans.
"With respect to the world oil price impact, projected ANWR oil production constitutes between 0.4 and 1.2 percent of total world oil consumption in 2030, based on the low and high resource cases, respectively.1 Consequently, ANWR oil production is not projected to have a large impact on world oil prices."
Hmm.. I don't understand why you're fighting to open ANWR... There's 36 Billion barrels there... but the US oil consumption is 20 million/per day. At that rate, those reserves would be deplete in only 5 years. ...Then what?
Obviously you don't know much about oil drilling because 36 million barrels under the ground is not going to be drilled, refined, transfered and consumed in only five years. Oil is not a renewable resource, nobody is saying that, but it can serve as a temporary solution for the current energy crisis, plus the 1.2 trillion dollars in taxes oil companies have paid annually goes to tax breaks for renewable energy.
Just some criticism of this video: some of the dialogue sounds jumbled as sentances are cut off by a new one beginning. Try to work out the audio. Very informative video, otherwise.
Although I do believe the native americans should get a piece of this oil. The truth is the oil belongs not to Alaskans or the oil companies but the American public. Bush and the republican are committing treason by giving the oil to the oil companies. As they don't release $ per barrel or % of barrel the US will receive. They are using the environment as smoke and mirrors.
I wish more people in our country understood econonomics. The oil companies in Alaska pay a huge tax to the state of Alaska and the US government to drill for oil. All those taxes are rolled into the price we pay for gas. Any company has to make a profit to stay in business, that's a fact. If you tax corporations you are taxing the person purchasing the product. That is us, folks. We are paying those hidden taxes when we buy the oil or gasoline. Then we pay additional fuel tax at the pump.
Great video. There you go. The people of Alaska are behind the idea and they are aware that their wildlife would be unharmed by drilling. But I guess the unavoidable tragedy is this: nothing whatsoever will EVER happen to change our energy dependence until these damn politicians (on BOTH sides of the aisle folks...not just big bad Bush) decide it is in THEIR interest to fix our oil dependency crisis. We all need to raise our voices until we are finally heard.
You forgot to mention that every Alaskan resident looks forward to their annual welfare stipend check courtesy of the oil companies.
You also forgot to mention that most of the oil obtained from ANWR wouldn't be sold within the USA; it would sold to the highest-bidding foreign nations.
Exactly how would ANWR "fill our energy needs" when the oil drilled there is sent to China, India, and Japan?
"Exactly how would ANWR "fill our energy needs" when the oil drilled there is sent to China, India, and Japan?"
You apparently don't understand why oil prices are high. Global demand for oil has risen while supply has remained constant. If the US drills for oil in ANWR, why should we keep it to ourselves? And we wouldn't just be "sending" it overseas, we'd be SELLING it. That's a good thing. It would cut down on our trade deficit, and increase the strength of the dollar.
It wouldn't be exported. Appreciate your comments but perhaps you should do additional homework after reading a 1995 press release from a radical environmental organization. Americans like you do nothing to solve the problem - you exacerbate it. No TV for you until you do your homework.
ANWR has about 1,000 people visit annually. How many of you have been there? How many plan to visit? ANWR can give us the chance to break our dependance of oil and move to cleaner technologies. There are beautiful sights in ANWR, but there is also a lot of tundra and harsh land. The animal populations have also risen since drilling started in the Prudhoe bay area. EDUCATE yourselves on the issues people.
I love the comment "Caribou gather around facilities to find relief from the Mosquito's" , what happened to the Mosquito's? .... Think about gas and canary's
Cleantech will create infinitely more jobs than any oil project. The people in Kaktovik should build a high-priced adventure tourism economy, it would last a lot longer and not wreck the place.
Now, that said, i think we need to move past oil (we're only helping rich people become richer for no good reason) and ook at natural gas as an answer. AK has an unfathomable amount of natural gas. Enough to make our oil blush. We've been trying to push a pipeline that will parallel the already existing oil pipelne and posibly spurr it to the lower 48 as well as ship liquified gas to the west coast and foreign markets.
A one sided argument here. Jobs Jobs Jobs. You knwo whjat will also create jobs? New and cleaner technology. Cars that burn Hydrogen or use electricity.
Wanna reduce dependance on foreign oil? Mak the cars get a higher fuel economy, or support hybrids or alternate fuels.
The government isn't even trying, and thus don't care about reducing dependance or helping our economy. They just wanna put more mney in the oil companies pocjets with this dead end solution
you're partially right. cleeaner tech is better. But you also need to understand that nearly all of alaka's bush population livesin almost severe poverty, and jobs for them and developement on THEIR land is crucial for their survival. ANWR is rather a large area that is covered in snow and ice 9 months out of the year. Technology today also provides for a smaller footprint. just look at what is being done with directional drilling.
I dont support drilling in my back yard. And I live here. This video was made by Arcticpower that lobbys congress to approve drilling. The voice is made nt one of the locals that is a corporation shareholder as well as at the time an arctic power member i believe. I have 60 something signature of the Kaktovik residents that OPPOSE developemnt on ANWR
Mining ANWR will not help break Americas dependence on foreign oil because once the oil is brought up it will belong to the oil companies. (Exxon remember them?!)
They sell it to the highest bidder - China probably.
ANWR should be left as it is, and America should break its oil addiction to ensure it doesnt thaw ANWR out before the future generations have a chance to enjoy it!
How come that voice sounds like a fake voice of an Alaskan? I think somebody wants some Alaskan oil. Listen to the voice very closely. It sounds like somebody rigged it. How come the speaker never shows his face? If I could make my voice sound like Micheal Jackson and I post some pictures of Micheal Jackson, some people might actually believe I was Mike. (brain washing for the ol mighty dollar)

I have spent more than 30 years in Prudhoe Bay and surrounding areas - there is enough oil in ANWR to provide fuel for the USA for over 50 years.
ANWR is so huge that if you took a pen and touch the map of ANWR the pen dot would cover more area than needed to drill.
Americans in the lower 48 are so ignorant of the facts and prefer to stick to their ignorance rather than have the truth.
Thank you for sharing the truth and the facts about ANWR on here!
