  • Sam for President

  • I love how Sam the Eagle is parody, not a satire. Yes, he's based on Moral Guardians and probably based on conservatives (at the time in the 80s, his appearance IS based on Richard Nixon). He's over-the-top, but it's played totally for laughs, not as a satirical criticism.

  • He almost sounds like Morshu

  • I think he works for Fox News now.

  • 0:23 "Now THAT was unwholesome. THAT was not cultural." I love the little nod he makes afterward, like a boss.

  • I miss Frank Oz as Sam. His new voice just sounds wrong.

  • Sam looks like Charles Krauthammer.

  • I think Sam the eagle is a conservative Republican.

  • who voiced that monster?

  • @mohinderbauer I think it's Jerry Nelson. He did the voice of Herry Monster from Sesame Street, and it sounds like him.

  • LADY WRESTLERS!!!

  • Just imagine if instead of Lady Wrestlers, Kermit said Lady Gaga....Sam would have a heart attack and the unwholesome-not culturalness of it all D:

  • XD Which season and episode is this??

  • Sam the Eagle now edits Conservapedia.

  • I thought he said "Awesome"?

  • That was Beautiful Day Monster

  • It's Andy Schlafly!

  • HAVE WE NO SHAME?!?!?!?!?

  • 'What was THAT?!'

    'Just dessert...'

And it is. Pie. Pie is dessert. :P

Oh, and watch?v=wBuDGHd2Qkg to see the continuation, where Sam meets Zero Mostel. And we see what Zero thinks of decency and dignity...

  • "The road is long. The path is steep." XD

  • @MegaFafnir THAT'S what he is saying! Thank you! I've been wondering for months what that last word is.

  • @MoonEyes2k No prob :)

He's my favourite of the Muppets, and one of the few Republicans I like (along with Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt)

  • What the hell is that gray thing?

  • @ThatHoboOverThere The Beautiful Day Monster

  • @meetchadcrew Many thanks :)

  • if Sam the Eagle ran for president it'd be the first time I'd ever vote republican

  • @mbattol He'd make certain this control is moral, wholesome, and cultural.

So Lady Gaga, Beiber, Ke$ha are out of this country. Oh, and Sam's second order of business is to rid America of Twilight for good.

    SAM THE EAGLE FOR 2012!

  • I feel like this exact sketch could be done today with "Lady Gaga" lol

  • Who is that dessert monster? I like him

  • lmao i searched andrew schlafly and i got this.

  • You don't see Sam the Eagle with the Muppets anymore because he's a Republican congressman from Ohio now.

  • Really? I wouldn't have thought that. He seems pretty disproving of EVERYTHING. LOL

  • I thought he married Nancy Pelosi

  • @DominoRyder

    Buckeyes

  • @DominoRyder hes totally a democrat sorry...

  • @McJohnster Actually he's modeled after a typical social conservative. That should be obvious to any honest person.

  • @love4thedead hey, I'm a kid aight? and atleast I'm not the one who lives in there parents basement watching the muppets...

  • Congressbird Eagle from Alaska!

  • @DominoRyder brilliant!!! hahahaha :)

  • Damn, I just realized Sam the eagle is hella conservative.

  • apparently he was based on Richard M. NIxon, so that's hardly surprising

  • @AlexDeLarge90 Although Richard Nixon is not the person I think of when I hear morals and integrity LOL

  • I love his face at 1:54

  • You despite my loath for American patriotism, I really love Sam the Eagle.

I wonder what he would say about todays policy of America... Bush,Afghanistan and Iraq War, abusing Alaska and nature, the shit this country does lately.

I really would like to see an official muppet like statement from him.

  • Indeed: during the US presedential elections I expected some comment from the Muppets and patriotic Sam the Eagle would of course have been perfect for it.

Sam really scared me when I watched the Muppetshow when I was little: the stern look, the voice and the huge, continuing eyebrow. When I got older and got the jokes, I noticed he is one of the funniest Muppets.

  • He probably didn't mad eany comment because Disney owns him. And they are strictly conservative and evil, it would be no surprise...

sigh, I hate Disney, I hope the company will go under sooner than Deadpool getting a cameo in Gargoyles.

  • Why do you loathE* American patriotism? Is it not just to love one's country?

  • Nationalism and patriotism are ideologies which drive war and agression.

I am German. WW I, WW II, Nationalsocialism, does it ring any bells?

  • Although and patriotism certainly was a factor in those two conflicts, it would be extremely nearsighted to imply that it was a direct cause. According to your logic, because the proliferation of treaties prior to WWI led many nations into that conflict, we should end all treaties. Patriotism, or more specifically American patriotism, does not start conflicts itself. No, it's a healthy display of gratitude for the rights our nation guarantees us. There is nothing evil about loving your home.

  • ^^^ imagine that spoken in Sam the Eagles voice. :D

  • Can you refute it, Mr. Brilliant?

  • Of course not, my poor simpleton..

  • I hold in disdain those who ardently express antipatriotic sentiments. Some despicable cretins will happily enjoy our high standard of living and guaranteed rights (which were purchased in blood) but will then slander the name our great nation before an international audience to curry favor. These arrogant hypocrites praise the supposed virtues of Europe and Canada (places of which they know nothing) yet would never leave the cherished comforts and conveniences which America enables. Weasels.

  • @theroachksu You make Sam the Eagle proud, fellow patriot! That was beautiful! :D

  • Have we no shame?

  • sam the eagle represents the conservatives, my interpretation.

  • Yeah, but he looks and talks so much like Joe Biden.

  • Sam is a spoof of conservatives. He is supposed to show them as being uptight, boring, and hypocritical. The other muppets are fun, open-minded, and knowllegeable.

  • love this! the only thing that i'm a bit confused on is the third muppet other than sam and kermit

  • I love Sam, every show needs an eccentric rain cloud like him!

  • Man, Vladimir Kozlov does look like Sam

  • loool

    Sam is the best!

  • A fine sample of THE CULTURAL (and bizarre) SAM THE EAGLE.

Just dessert? Well the best I had on holiday was sticky caramel pudding with custard on top MMM

  • THAT is not wholesome. THAT is not cultural .... lmao.

  • if it's so boring, why did you take the time to even comment?

  • Sam just gets no respect at all.

  • He's not supposed to. He's supposed to show how self-righteous the conservatives were.

  • Sam plays Yoda on Starwars ep# 1-2-3.

  • You mean Frank Oz neh? Frank also does Ms. Piggy.

  • "The road is long. The path is steep." Too funny! Poor old Sam.

  • just deserts

  • joe biden!

  • Sam is more conservative than McCain

  • Comment removed

  • HA! Sam is so serious! LOVE IT!!

  • Good old Sam,I was scared of him too when I was little but I love that bird now! That and Animal as well XD

  • Me too!

  • His shifty eyes always creeped me out when I was a kid...makes me laugh now! Does a great job of being the straight man amongst the chaos.

  • lolz

  • the muppet show kicks sesame streets ass, even if they were made by the same guy XD

  • Wut?

    Lady, wut?

    Wrest, wut?

    LAAAAAADY WRESTLEERRRRRS??!!

    Awesome. xD

  • @cyRilBaggins

Oh, I thought he said lady rustlers XD

  • Lady wrestlers!!! Ofmg I've never laughed so hard in my life!!! "Have we no shame?!" Man, that was too funny. I love the Muppet Show. I miss it!

  • Yeah I like Sam now, but when i was little I was terrified of him!! He was so scary :-(

  • Yeah, me too. As a kid I was scared since he looks kinda angry or troubled with those eyebrows of his.

    Now I find him hilarious.

  • I thought he had been a kiddie spoof of Richard Nixon.

  • You thought right. Rumour has it his looks and character was based on Richard M. Nixon. Well sort of...

Although I don't know if the "I have here a list...", which he says in another video, was said by Joseph McCarthy

  • It's the eyebrows, ultimate goofiness, and timing of the airing. Nixon also had his enemies list.

  • thanks, I didn't know that

I must say I didn't consider "Tricky Dick" Nixon half as bad in the way he was portrayed by Frank Langella in "Frost/Nixon"

  • Nixon was just like every other president-- a politician. He only got caught doing what every other president has surely had a hand in at some time or another. I'd even bank that a supposedly squeaky-clean figure like Obama has performed some unscrupulous acts for which he has never made to answer... yet.

  • hahah hella stern

  • lol sam is so funny bird never look happy that why alot people like this character !!!!

  • those brows!!!!

  • I always thought Sam had issues and was ridiculous. I didn't know that there were actually people like Sam the Eagle.

  • Sam talks about wholesomeness and culture, but knows almost next-to-nothing about culture, thinking Beethoven is a playwright.

  • Sam the Eagle scared the shit out of me when I was little.

  • Yeah, I think that's true for a lot of people!

  • I love SAM!!!!!

  • Sam is certainly one of my favourites.

Puritanical, controlling and utterly devoid of humour. His failed effort to maintain his dignity is what makes most people laugh.

I personally start laughing right away because his agenda shifts like the wind, but never stops.

  • Yeah he is one of my favourites too. This clip is so funny

  • Sam the eagle is one of my favorite muppets. He REALLY reminds me of Jim Dial from Murphy Brown!

  • JUST DESSERT! :)

  • I never realized that Sam the Eagle was a neo-conservative fascist cultural watchdog.

  • in the original pilot epesode the host was a brown frog named Nigle. Sam's 'role' on the show was to get in Nigle's ass about everything.

  • Are you sure, I thought the dvd said the pilot was with Kermit - guest star = Juliet Prowse? second show with Connie Stevens.

  • i could be wrong about it being a pilot but i've seen the epesode. donno who the guest star was but it was a litte brown show. i'll have to look that up now

  • reevalnari. English is the language spoken in the USA and England. Shakespeare is considered to be the greatest writer ever and very influental to all other poets after him. Intellectuals like to quote his books. Him being english doesn't matter one bit.He is also taught in schools all over the world,so what's your excuse for Sam the eagle being american?

  • He's called Sam the American Bald Eagle.

  • William Shakespeare (baptised 26 April 1564 -- 23 April 1616) was an English poet and playwright, widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language and the world's pre-eminent dramatist. He is often called England's national poet and the "Bard of Avon" (or simply "The Bard").

  • His surviving works consist of 38 plays, 154 sonnets, two long narrative poems, and several other poems. His plays have been translated into every major living language and are performed more often than those of any other playwright.

Shakespeare was born and raised in Stratford-upon-Avon and wrote classic such as King Lear, Hamlet and Othello.

  • Lady WRESTLERS?!?!

  • I've read Sam the eagle considered himself quite cultural but thought Shakespeare wrote musicals from the 1950's and was generally clueless regarding such matters. At least he tried to be cultural.. hehe. Don't know too many those.

  • He is an AMERICAN eagle after all; I doubt he knew much of anything about British culture. He was just a poser.

  • the road is long

  • BOOYAH

  • brilliant
