The thing I hate most about religion is that everyone assumes they are right and everyone else is wrong. An ye harm none; do as ye will. We all find our own path to God or Goddess or oak tree or Buddha or whatever. I just think it's a damn good song!
@RedLetterChristian read what you are saying..you are judging another religion harshly..you are doing EXACTLY OPPOSITE OF WHAT YOUR SUPPOSED TO..i hate to tell you..but if a true Mormon went and listened to another religion sing their songs, we would not insult them..we would compliment them no matter how bad we or others thought they were. Does God want you to go and insult every other religion saying that they are a cult just because you think your religion is the best? Ofcourse not..
@greene4477 i do not care about the academic beliefs of a religion whether they are accurate or not or make sense or not.. ALL I care about is the result reflected in the behavior of the group on the community and i can see that they are decent people and that is inline with the B-attitude teachings of Christ. The B-attiudes of Christ is the paramont reason he is is my savior. All the Supernatural stuff and mystical crap is just an elixir to our emotional needs. Example of Christ is supreme.
ALLELUIA! I'M PAUL QUEBRAR, A CATHOLIC FROM THE PHILIPPINES. MY CHRISTMAS WISH IS THAT SOMEDAY ALL OF US CHRISTIANS MAY FINALLY UNITE! THOUGH I'M A CATHOLIC, I LOVE THE WAY OUR BROTHER MORMONS SANG THIS SACRED HYMN!!!
hey watch out ! mormonism is a very sneaky and decieving cult and they are not biblicle christains the book of mormon is in direct conflict to the bible they are worshiping a faulse jesus and are leading many to there eternal damnation to hell. some of them are very nice but very well skamed out. check out way of the master mormonism that will show you more the teachings of joseph smith cant save only the finished work of jesus christ on the cross repent turn from sin and trust in christ alone
@greene4477 we are supposed to judge others and tell them nicely when they are in error. we are not to be the judge and executioner so to speak but it is up to christians to tell other christians that that they are in error. now b/c mormons claim to be christians they fall within the framework of that prerogative. the fact that they are a cult and NOT christian in ANY of their doctrines, heck they don't even believe in the creed of nicaea and that's absolutely foundational to christian belief
@RedLetterChristian The Nicean Creed is not biblical...it's the doctrines of men. The Latter-day Saints claim that the creed (and the Athanasian creed) is a corruption of pure doctrine. It was voted upon! You can vote all you want that the sky is green, but it's still blue.
@tailwindandy But if everyone thinks the sky is green then that's what's u got to got with. Illusion and comfort trumps reality especially when it is an emotional elixir. Viceral and Cerabral are ying yang with my my preference at a 65 to 35% ratio for cerebral majority. But gut feeling is mandatory.
This is perhaps the most beautiful piece of music. And it sounds perfect as a chorus. I wonder if there is a Latin version, though. Thank you for posting. Brought me a great deal of comfort.
Thank you for uploading this lovely piece of music.
Youwho have negative comments-thanks for proving how shallow and immature people can be. You owe an apology to the uploader of this video. Have some dignity.
For those of you who have a problem with a lack of African-American people in this choir, I would like you to note that the video is three years old. Before you judge LDS demographics, please look at the current Tabernacle Choir.
@person1756 Yes, while piece is very commonly used as an Easter or Christmas Mass, as contradicting as it seems, was originally meant to be a secular piece. It is one of the many musical paradoxes that happen all the time like how most Christmas music has designed and sung by members of the Jewish congregation. It's origin does not have to depict its use, and quite frankly Handle is dead and could care less how we use his music.
@person1756 I have no problem with your point but I do take offense at being called an Idiot. A viewpoint is just that, someones view of a situation. While the idea could be something different than yours it does not necessarily mean that the person is an idiot.
I sang this in high school and I can remember chills running down my spine and losing all sensation of singing... the notes just started coming out of me effortlessly. I really can't explain it but it was the most amazing experience I've ever had while singing.
@sayaandserenarocks I never assume when it comes to music and not attempting an argument. If you are truly a first soprano the notes are not difficult because they are written for a soprano in the soprano range; however, if you are singing improperly you will experience difficulty. You probably have a lovely voice but sing improperly. I don't know I've never heard you sing. The sopranos with whom I've performed this song never had to "go to second "soprano. Listen to these great sopranos.

On New Year's Day, 2011, I treated myself to the choir that sounds like Angels On Earth singing the most glorious piece of music ever composed. THANK YOU FOR POSTING, BLESSINGS AND PEACE TO ALL!
Seriously there is always a hurtful comment about mormons...People are quick to judge us mormons, especially those who know nothing about The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints,we mormons don't go and write hurtful things about other religions and their beliefs, because we know in our hearts it's the wrong thing to do,so instead of writing back hurtful things about your beliefs and whatever,we rather be humble and not do so!!..L.D.S 4 LYF...:-)
@MizzToNgA01 Kia Ora from Bangkok. Im catholic, but nothing can compare to the beautiful sound of the Mormon Tabanacle Choir.... A sound from Heaven for sure :)
At the end of the day we asre all brothers and sisters. Anyone that says shit against you are not following in the steps of their own faith.
@FullaFromNZ you must realize that mormons belong to a cult that. that they are christian but they could not be further from the truth, they are the next largest polytheists next to hindu's. they believe that when they die that they will go to heaven and become gods and that one day they too will be able to their own personal universe to do with as they see fit. MORMONS ARE NOT CHRISTIANS. and yes there choir of the damned do sound wonderful but it doesn't change the fact they are a CULT.
@FullaFromNZ i don't know exactly what you mean by "Anyone that says shit against you are not following in the steps of their own faith." but it is up to christians to correct other christians, and because the mormons claim to be christians they fall within that framework. hence it is my duty to tell them that they are not christians and that they are in a cult. if they didn't call themselves christians, i wouldn't have that prerogative. but i should then tell them about jesus.
@RedLetterChristian I just have one question, where did you get your opinion? Have you ever read the book of Mormon? Christ is in it from the front to the back! It testifies of Christ. So how do you define a Christian? I find that most people who have those opinions have done no research and got the opinions from people that did no research, thus propagating opinions not based on any facts…
@bethy1982 Continued…Or tacking a few obscure facts and distorting them till they do not resemble the truth at all. I just went to stake conference and the talk that resonated in me the most was titled "Christ, He Lived, he loves, he lifts" ok, that was more than one question :) Love you anyway, fellow child of god! Oh, and one of my favorite hymns is “I believe in Christ”
@bethy1982 Nothing wrong with Morman, I think they are a fine people and good for the community ( from what I have seen ) BUT THIS IS JUST AN AMERICAN VERSION OF CHRIST SOLD BY A SALESMAN. This Joseph Smith would have loved the Sub prime mortgage.. Seer stones? C'mon on man use some intellect and not just your emotions.. Can I sell you a 29,000 sq foot house? Your wife will love u so much and " i'll bet u can pay for it"... you would belive anything...
@bethy1982 i define Christian as one who serves God without hesitation or doubt...one who believes in the Saviour!!!!!!!!! i hope everyone can it through their thick skulls that there must be a God or someone who created us because if there was none we'd just be walking bags of accidentally mixed chemicals...no reason 4 life!!!!!!! well bags of chemicals according 2 the Big bang theory...i just want ppl 2 have a reason 4 living and that reason should b a righteous one... :D
@RedLetterChristian please dont generalize Mormons...i think they r good ppl but have different traditions...the point is that they do believe in the Saviour and God i am a Christian too and i dont want fellow followers of Christ fighting with each other!!!!!!!! NOT COOL!!!!!!!!!
@MizzToNgA01 YOU HAVE THE RIGHT ATTITUDE! Congratulations to you!
Even though I am not a mormon, I have visited the Tabernacle and witnessed one of the most treasured experiences of my life when I heard the Choir practice!!!
And while Googling famous religious planets...please do not forget the most amazing planet of them all..XENU or XEMU....not far from Kolob or Kypton...where they build DC-8's to send people to the planet Teegeeack (earth). Its called a SPACE opera...with the tabernacle choir...singing in the vacuum of space.
If I could only Hie to Kolob in a twinkling of an eye...just like KAL EL is from Krypton...And as I watch the Earth spin clockwise instead of counter clockwise- so it is written by Jor-El....father of superman.
While I find some of the Mormon doctrine to be downright weird, there is no choir on earth to match them and I've heard some great ones. The choir at North Pointe Baptist Church in Hurst, Texas is fantastic, but not as good as this group.
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Councellor, The mighty God, The Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace.
Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice form henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.
Isn't the human voice a wonderful instrument? So many voices coming together as one. The really great thing, is everyone of them "COULD" have a terrible voice by themselves, but when blended together it's BEAUTIFUL!
I heard that you almost need a degree in Music before auditioning for the MTC. I may be exaggerating, but when I was in the Tabernacle for choir practice, the director was saying, "Second sopranos, the note on the third measure is an F#. You may want to sing it as an F, but it is an F#" or something like that.
I couldn't tell an F from an F#, but GOSH they sing well together. Like NO OTHER CHOIR for sure!
@paocho3 That's why they produce such a sound because most are extremely musically literate, trained and there are many of them. The least trained of this choir is probably on my level (laugh). Any choir with that number of people, same training will produce like sound or better. Too bad I didn't see any black people (one does not even have to look it is so blatantly obvious). This speaks volumes believe it or not and am not attempting a debate. Judge for yourself!
I see that sound quality (video transposition) wasn't too big of a concern, elrinconsud. Did you stick the Betamax camcorder in front of the TV and put the mic next to the speakers?
damn it, the person who posted this should have disabled the comments.. I came here to listen to the Hallejuah chorus, and there we go with the arguments already about Mormonism, blah blah. People, just listen to the music, you don't have to say that stuff.
@dale9532 I love you!And you are awesome, keep believing and all things will come together for your good....Through Jesus Christ and I leave this with you in the name of Jesus Christ
@dale9532 Maybe you should just find another version of this if you don't want any 'religious' conotation.. But how do you get out of that when this is a religious song. AND they are Mormons....
@dale9532 you are absolutely right. I too came here to listen to the beautiful sounds and angelic music, not to hear religious zealots and their ideaologies.....please people let us listen in comfort. Go do your stuff on the rappers and metallic rock-heads.
@dale9532 I so agree......it's ok to disagree with the dogma/doctrine of Mormonism, but folks should just shut up about it already - this is a beautiful song from a beautiful masterpiece celebrating Christ...........why can't people just leave it at that and not worry themselves with stuff that doesn't belong in the midst of this piece....????
My absolute favorite Christmas song. What a wonderful praise to God. The entire performance of Handel's Messiah is a great way to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. How appropriate for the best Choir on earth to sing Hallelujah! And yes, I am a member of the Church.
THIS IS SO COOL! our choir is singing this for our christmas special, but nothing compares to them choir peoples! WE HAVE THE BEST SINGERS EVA as mormons! :D
One of my favorite all time songs, and choirs....such a beautiful song and such a joyful meaning to all who believe!!!! Do you believe He will reign forever? I do!!!
No description available? None Required! NOBODY DOES THIS MAGNIFICENT COMPOSITION BETTER! Thank You For Posting. Praise To Our Creator. Merry Christmas. PEACE ON EARTH!
@Gary2837 I'm an alto, and can do soprano with great difficulty, but when we sing this i do the tenor line...it's exceptionally high, brilliant, but high!
@nryeomans You are the second person responding who said their parts are too high. Your alto line is written for an alto voice; maybe you are really a high contralto like the other who said the soprano lines were too high maybe she is really an excellent alto. I'm sure you both have beauticul voices. The tenor is certainly not too high for me; I can sing the alto line (minus my allergies). Handel made no mistakes in writing for each voice in this masterpiece.
@Gary2837 NO! i'm saying the first time u sing this song its hard but i hit notes way higher then the top note in this song! try singing the very first soprano in Carmina Burana! people who are normaly first soprano become second. its a hard song and i can hit every note in there easily! dont assume something or ull make an a** out of u and me! i have been a first soprano my whole life and i have been able to hit every note!
This is, without a doubt, the most awesome choir I've ever heard....BUT....it breaks my heart to know that these beautiful faces and souls have been deceived and are NOT going to enter Heaven under the Mormon beliefs. The Bible warns over and over to be on guard against those who come, even in the name of Christ, who will decieve and mislead. I beg and pray that each of you read your Bible and pray and seek God and turn to him from this cult called Mormonism.
@adga140 im sorry that you feel this way and i hope that someday you'll be presented with the chance to receive the Gospel and i encourage you to read The Book of Mormon and pray to your Heavenly Father with a sincere heart and ask him for the answer. I know this church is true and i know that Joseph Smith saw Heavenly Father and His Son Jesus Christ in the sacred grove i also know that The Book of Mormon is true i leave this with you in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen
@adga140 Dear Adga140, don't worry about the salvation of the Mormons, either collectively or individually. God, the great Judge of all, will get to decide who makes it to Heaven. If you have been taught that Mormons will not go to Heaven, it's not with your best interest at hand. Come unto Christ. He will work out all the details.
It is my duty to be concerned about lost souls. You suggest that I am being judgmental but its not a judgment call at all, no more than it would be a judgment call to say that the lights are on because the switch is in the on position. I have been taught that ANYONE who rejects the plan of salvation will not go to Heaven, Mormons are no exceptions. I continue to pray for your salvation.
@adga140 The minute you say that somebody is not making it to heaven you are making a call that is not yours to make. Who are you to say that somebody is "lost" when you don't even know them personally? I have found Christ. Am I lost?
@iluvschnix Do you believe that Jesus Christ was the virgin born Son of God, sent to earth to take upon himself the sins of the world, pay the penalty for sin, arose the third day from the tomb and returned to Heaven to prepare a place for those who are saved?
@adga140 Absolutely and completely YES. Every good Mormon believes that and lives by that. Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior, the Way, the Truth, and the Life.
@adga140 Actually their Jesus is the brother of Lucifer according to the teachings of Joesph Smith. He also taught works for salvation, "saved by grace After all you can do" ...that is no longer grace. I love the Mormon people but Joesph Smith changed the bible and deceived them, he was no prophet
@adga140 Does grace mean I have a free license to abuse my God-given power to choose and in the end it doesn't matter because Christ will excuse me? (He gets to suffer for my sins and I get to do whatever I want under the blanket of grace?) Or does grace mean that even if I spent my whole life trying my very best to do God's will, my own works would never be enough to save me? That is what "after all you can do" means. Grace is a gift, not an excuse for bad behavior. Agree or disagree?
@iluvschnix Paul already addressed this in Romans 6. No further revelation is required to refine our understanding of this. Who's claiming it's an excuse?
@candrade001 I've met many a Christian who readily claim understanding of grace, including a girl who was coerced by another Christian girl into immoral acts by saying, "you are covered in the blood of Christ!" (justifying that whatever her actions, Christ had already payed the price for that sin and therefore she was free to do as she pleased). That is why I've used the term "abuse" of free agency. Mormons believe in living a life of "good deeds" and STILL needing grace to be saved.
@iluvschnix My only reply to your anecdote is that those so-called "Christians" are not true followers of Christ because they would know that behavior cannot be justified in light of scripture. It is God's will that we be sanctified (1 Thes. 4:3). But my challenge to you is to examine the theological implications of the statement "after all you can do" and see if that stands harmoniously with the idea of grace offered in the Bible. Who's level of "all you can do" sets the standard?
@candrade001 Follow what every biblical prophet/writer delivered as a message from God: Repent of your sins. Have faith in Jesus Christ. Be baptized as Jesus was. Receive the Holy Ghost. Endure to the end being a faithful disciple of Jesus Christ. Love God with all your heart, mind and soul. Love your neighbor as yourself. That is, no more, no less, what "all you can do" stands for. And yes, even though you do all that, "it is only by grace that you are saved." That is what this means.
@iluvschnix But that is not grace; that's merit and I think there's cause for further distinction. Orthodox Christianity claims that we are not justified by our works but by faith alone. Our good works flow from true faith and regeneration; not vice versa. Our salvation therefore isn't guaranteed by "all we can do" or our adherence to laws and ordinances but rather by the work of Christ. This is "grace" to us and, as I understand it, is in direct opposition to Mormon Theology.
@candrade001 I do not disagree at all with what you are saying. Mormon theology doesn't contradict what you just said. It is through the merits of Christ that salvation comes, and in no other way. We believe that the key is to truly "come unto Christ" by first having faith in Him, and accepting everything that He requires of us, including laws and ordinances (e.g. baptism), such as become a true disciple to take upon himself.
@iluvschnix But then I must go back to what spurred this discussion in the first place and that was on grace. If it's merit then it isn't grace and that concept isn't what the Bible affirms. Thus there is a direct contradiction between what is stated in Nephi about "all you can do" and the gospel of grace as taught in the Bible. If you read Romans and Galatians you will see this is plainly evident. They are mutually exclusive so if one is true, than the other has to be false.
@iluvschnix We also believe what James taught in the 2nd Chapter of his general epistle. (Sorry, there was not enough room in my previous post). Thank you for reading my comments.
@iluvschnix And thank you for reading mine. James 2 conforms to what I described earlier; a true regeneration will manifest itself with righteous works. But that is a far cry from the statement that those righteous works merit salvation. If that were the case then there would be no reason for Christ (as stated by Paul). So therefore there is harmony between what Paul writes concerning salvation by grace through faith and what James writes concerning a faith without works being dead.
@candrade001 2 Nephi 25:23, 26 (written abt. 550 BC) says, "For we labor diligently to write, to persuade our children, and also our brethren, to believe in Christ, and to be reconciled to God; for we know that it is by grace that we are saved, after all we can do...And we talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ...that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins." Christ and salvation through Him is the Mormon message.
@iluvschnix Perhaps, I believe there's more to it than that. The details of who Christ is and how salvation is achieved through him makes all the difference in the world. Have you done "all you can do" perfectly? If yes, then you are morally perfect, so why do you need grace? If not, you are not doing all you can do and you won't merit salvation. Gal. 2:16 "know that a person is not justified by the works of the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ." It's either Nephi or Paul, but not both.
@candrade001 Mormons don't believe or teach that you will be saved by your own merits. Book of Mormon: "I say unto you that if ye should serve him who has created you from the beginning...with all your whole souls yet ye would be unprofitable servants." In other words, even if you had a perfect tract record of works, you are still "in the red" without Christ. I cannot redeem myself. Only Christ can redeem me. Our message is "come unto Christ." The invitation He extended to all was "Come unto Me"
@iluvschnix But what you've said is that once I "come unto Christ", I need to keep the laws and ordinances or else I'm not doing "all I can do". It is effectively the same thing. If you read Galatians you will find that the Judaizers were telling early Christians the same thing; you are saved in Christ, but you are only justified by how you keep to the law. If we are justified by how we keep to the law, there's only one standard that will do; perfect adherence, which we cannot do.
@candrade001 Very well. You sound like you have come unto Christ. He will reward you greatly for it. I have found Him as well and will try all my life to live as His disciple, knowing fully well that I will never be able to do it perfectly--but I trust His grace to redeem me, and I know He will do just that. I wish you a blessed journey. I would love for you to just read the Book of Mormon. It would help you see that there is no point in fearing its contents. A second witness for Christ.
@iluvschnix I do not fear it's contents. I question it's veracity and the facts surrounding the testimony of Joseph Smith. I find, with good reason, it's testimony to be false which renders it irrelevant to the Christian faith. But, I'm always up for hearing the reasons why I may be wrong.
@candrade001 (ran out of space again). I am enjoying having this cordial discussion with you and hope it will help dispel the notion that Mormons teach that salvation comes from any other source than Jesus Christ. I invite you to read the Book of Mormon in its entirety. When you do, you will find that it doesn't contradict the Bible. It actually supports its message, its authenticity, and its truth. It is a testimony of the divinity of Jesus Christ and the reality of His resurrection.
@iluvschnix I'm enjoying this as well. I don't disagree that Mormons preach Christ as the source of salvation. It's the details of how we are saved through him that, like I said, makes all the difference. But to be honest, it is only one of the vast differences between our faiths. While I should finish the BOM as an exercise, from a faith standpoint it is completely unnecessary. Christ came, his gospel has been well preserved and proclaimed throughout the centuries. No restoration is required.
Friend, I dont believe anything thats not in the Bible, and thats not in there! What I do know is Ephesians 2:8-9 "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast."
@adga140 I believe that also. I cannot save myself through my good works without the Atonement of Christ. Likewise, you cannot claim to have faith and not bring forth the works of faith--which are repentance and baptism. In either case, the point is, WE NEED JESUS CHRIST AND HIS ATONEMENT TO BE SAVED. I believe we agree on this?
@WID7 This is a performance by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir praising Jesus Christ, the Son of God. But some people will not be satisfied with the response that yes, indeed, Mormons have Jesus Christ and His sacrifice for us as the very core of our religion.
If you insist in discussing Lucifer, please explain how he came into being. Was he a creation of God that went bad because of his own pride (Lucifer's) or did he create himself? Or who else created him? Or how did he just show up?
@iluvschnix But this song that they are singing isn't about the Christ of mormonism. It is the true Christ; King of Kings, Lord of Lords. He does not share the privilege of those roles with anyone. It isn't one king of many exalted kings, or a lord amongst many exalted lords. The Christ of Handel's Messiah is the triumphant risen Christ who was with God the father from the beginning, through whom all things came into existence. That is not the Christ of mormonism, but it is Handel's Messiah.
@candrade001 You obviously know nothing about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints. Please check your facts before spouting off your ignorant assumptions!
@edtech30 i'm taking my facts straight from your church leaders. With regards to the differences in our understanding of who Christ is, Gordon B. Hinkley said "The traditional Christ of whom they speak is not the Christ of whom I speak", LDS Church News 6/98. Is your Christ the one and only son of God who is in Triune relationship with him and the Holy Spirit, the eternal, uncreated word that was with God from the beginning by which all things came into existence? Hinkley would say no.
@candrade001 I am sorry to tell you that this is where you have it wrong. Mormons don't have an alternate Jesus Christ. We believe in the Messiah that was foretold by all prophets of the Bible. The One that this masterpiece is praising and honoring. The One who was born of the virgin Mary, who died on the cross at Golgotha and was resurrected. The One who will return in glory. I'm sorry to say that whoever made the claim that Mormons worship a different Jesus lied to you. And lied big.
@iluvschnix Again, it's in the details we find distinction. You didn't refute my claim that he is one of many exalted kings, of which any person can become just like. Other differences in the Christ of Mormonism are he's a created being, a spirit-brother of Lucifer, and the product of actual physical intercourse. I can assure you, this wasn't Handel's Christ. But if I'm mistaken, please inform me because this is taken straight from the historical teachings of your church.
@candrade001 I sincerely believed you were just an honest person wanting to have a respectful dialogue with someone of another faith. I now have reason to believe that your agenda is to defame my religion and distort our beliefs in a space where the Mormon Tabernacle Choir is singing praises to Jesus Christ. I wish you a blessed and happy journey. God bless you and your loved ones on your earthly journey. Merry Christmas!
@iluvschnix It is only a distortion if what I'm saying is untrue. What have i distorted? I believe I have remained respectful throughout. I meant no offense, but I do want to challenge who you believe Christ to be and I cannot withhold the facts purely for the sake of preserving your sensibilities. However, I won't disagree that I do have an agenda; and that is to proclaim the truth of who Christ is. It will be my prayer that one day you will accept this truth. Merry Christmas to you too!
Hallelujah" hebrew -" Praise Yah" our heavenly fathers sacred name "Yahweh"...beautiful, used 7000 times in the old testament. His name given to Moses, why do we not use it?
Does it not enter the Mormon brain that you are so small worldwide, that maybe just maybe your wrong, I guess all religious nuts are 100% certain (well you cant all be right, good luck with that lottery draw)
Man, this music and performance is inspiring!!! I can't wait to see this live at Carnegie Hall during the Christmas season! When I first saw it, I think in 2005 or '06, it brought a tear to my eye! To finally see and feel live, the music I have loved since I was a child, was very moving.
Browsing through a few of the comments below ... what a waste of time this argument is. Incredible piece of music performed by one of the greatest group of musicians ever. Pay attention ... can't we all just get along?
Da würde ich auch gerne mitsingen.
Super!!!
Weiter so!

greene4477 5 months ago
@greene4477 we are supposed to judge others and tell them nicely when they are in error. we are not to be the judge and executioner so to speak but it is up to christians to tell other christians that that they are in error. now b/c mormons claim to be christians they fall within the framework of that prerogative. the fact that they are a cult and NOT christian in ANY of their doctrines, heck they don't even believe in the creed of nicaea and that's absolutely foundational to christian belief
RedLetterChristian 3 months ago
@RedLetterChristian The Nicean Creed is not biblical...it's the doctrines of men. The Latter-day Saints claim that the creed (and the Athanasian creed) is a corruption of pure doctrine. It was voted upon! You can vote all you want that the sky is green, but it's still blue.

@tailwindandy But if everyone thinks the sky is green then that's what's u got to got with. Illusion and comfort trumps reality especially when it is an emotional elixir. For those of you who have a problem with a lack of African-American people in this choir, I would like you to note that the video is three years old. Before you judge LDS demographics, please look at the current Tabernacle Choir.

@policegirlS Are you an idiot? This is supposed to be played during the Easter season!
person1756 6 months ago
@person1756 Yes, while piece is very commonly used as an Easter or Christmas Mass, as contradicting as it seems, was originally meant to be a secular piece. It is one of the many musical paradoxes that happen all the time like how most Christmas music has designed and sung by members of the Jewish congregation. It's origin does not have to depict its use, and quite frankly Handle is dead and could care less how we use his music.

RedLetterChristian 3 months ago

He will work out all the details.
iluvschnix 1 year ago
It is my duty to be concerned about lost souls. You suggest that I am being judgmental but its not a judgment call at all, no more than it would be a judgment call to say that the lights are on because the switch is in the on position. I have been taught that ANYONE who rejects the plan of salvation will not go to Heaven, Mormons are no exceptions. I continue to pray for your salvation.
adga140 1 year ago
@adga140 The minute you say that somebody is not making it to heaven you are making a call that is not yours to make. Who are you to say that somebody is "lost" when you don't even know them personally? I have found Christ. Am I lost?

@adga140 Actually their Jesus is the brother of Lucifer according to the teachings of Joesph Smith. He also taught works for salvation, "saved by grace After all you can do" ...that is no longer grace. I love the Mormon people but Joesph Smith changed the bible and deceived them, he was no prophet
WID7 1 year ago
@WID7 This was my understanding also.
adga140 1 year ago
@adga140 Does grace mean I have a free license to abuse my God-given power to choose and in the end it doesn't matter because Christ will excuse me? (He gets to suffer for my sins and I get to do whatever I want under the blanket of grace?) Or does grace mean that even if I spent my whole life trying my very best to do God's will, my own works would never be enough to save me? That is what "after all you can do" means. Grace is a gift, not an excuse for bad behavior. Agree or disagree?
iluvschnix 1 year ago
@iluvschnix Paul already addressed this in Romans 6. No further revelation is required to refine our understanding of this. Who's claiming it's an excuse?
candrade001 1 year ago
@candrade001 I've met many a Christian who readily claim understanding of grace, including a girl who was coerced by another Christian girl into immoral acts by saying, "you are covered in the blood of Christ!" (justifying that whatever her actions, Christ had already payed the price for that sin and therefore she was free to do as she pleased). That is why I've used the term "abuse" of free agency. Mormons believe in living a life of "good deeds" and STILL needing grace to be saved.
iluvschnix 1 year ago
@iluvschnix My only reply to your anecdote is that those so-called "Christians" are not true followers of Christ because they would know that behavior cannot be justified in light of scripture. It is God's will that we be sanctified (1 Thes. 4:3). But my challenge to you is to examine the theological implications of the statement "after all you can do" and see if that stands harmoniously with the idea of grace offered in the Bible. Who's level of "all you can do" sets the standard?
candrade001 1 year ago
@candrade001 Follow what every biblical prophet/writer delivered as a message from God: Repent of your sins. Have faith in Jesus Christ. Be baptized as Jesus was. Receive the Holy Ghost. Endure to the end being a faithful disciple of Jesus Christ. Love God with all your heart, mind and soul. Love your neighbor as yourself. That is, no more, no less, what "all you can do" stands for. And yes, even though you do all that, "it is only by grace that you are saved." That is what this means.
iluvschnix 1 year ago
@iluvschnix But that is not grace; that's merit and I think there's cause for further distinction. Orthodox Christianity claims that we are not justified by our works but by faith alone. Our good works flow from true faith and regeneration; not vice versa. Our salvation therefore isn't guaranteed by "all we can do" or our adherence to laws and ordinances but rather by the work of Christ. This is "grace" to us and, as I understand it, is in direct opposition to Mormon Theology.
candrade001 1 year ago
@candrade001 I do not disagree at all with what you are saying. Mormon theology doesn't contradict what you just said. It is through the merits of Christ that salvation comes, and in no other way. We believe that the key is to truly "come unto Christ" by first having faith in Him, and accepting everything that He requires of us, including laws and ordinances (e.g. baptism), such as become a true disciple to take upon himself.
iluvschnix 1 year ago
@iluvschnix But then I must go back to what spurred this discussion in the first place and that was on grace. If it's merit then it isn't grace and that concept isn't what the Bible affirms. Thus there is a direct contradiction between what is stated in Nephi about "all you can do" and the gospel of grace as taught in the Bible. If you read Romans and Galatians you will see this is plainly evident. They are mutually exclusive so if one is true, than the other has to be false.
candrade001 1 year ago
@iluvschnix We also believe what James taught in the 2nd Chapter of his general epistle. (Sorry, there was not enough room in my previous post). Thank you for reading my comments.
iluvschnix 1 year ago
@iluvschnix And thank you for reading mine. James 2 conforms to what I described earlier; a true regeneration will manifest itself with righteous works. But that is a far cry from the statement that those righteous works merit salvation. If that were the case then there would be no reason for Christ (as stated by Paul). So therefore there is harmony between what Paul writes concerning salvation by grace through faith and what James writes concerning a faith without works being dead.
candrade001 1 year ago
@candrade001 2 Nephi 25:23, 26 (written abt. 550 BC) says, "For we labor diligently to write, to persuade our children, and also our brethren, to believe in Christ, and to be reconciled to God; for we know that it is by grace that we are saved, after all we can do...And we talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ...that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins." Christ and salvation through Him is the Mormon message.
iluvschnix 1 year ago
@iluvschnix Perhaps, I believe there's more to it than that. The details of who Christ is and how salvation is achieved through him makes all the difference in the world. Have you done "all you can do" perfectly? If yes, then you are morally perfect, so why do you need grace? If not, you are not doing all you can do and you won't merit salvation. Gal. 2:16 "know that a person is not justified by the works of the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ." It's either Nephi or Paul, but not both.
candrade001 1 year ago
@candrade001 Mormons don't believe or teach that you will be saved by your own merits. Book of Mormon: "I say unto you that if ye should serve him who has created you from the beginning...with all your whole souls yet ye would be unprofitable servants." In other words, even if you had a perfect tract record of works, you are still "in the red" without Christ. I cannot redeem myself. Only Christ can redeem me. Our message is "come unto Christ." The invitation He extended to all was "Come unto Me"
iluvschnix 1 year ago 2
@iluvschnix But what you've said is that once I "come unto Christ", I need to keep the laws and ordinances or else I'm not doing "all I can do". It is effectively the same thing. If you read Galatians you will find that the Judaizers were telling early Christians the same thing; you are saved in Christ, but you are only justified by how you keep to the law. If we are justified by how we keep to the law, there's only one standard that will do; perfect adherence, which we cannot do.
candrade001 1 year ago
@candrade001 Very well. You sound like you have come unto Christ. He will reward you greatly for it. I have found Him as well and will try all my life to live as His disciple, knowing fully well that I will never be able to do it perfectly--but I trust His grace to redeem me, and I know He will do just that. I wish you a blessed journey. I would love for you to just read the Book of Mormon. It would help you see that there is no point in fearing its contents. A second witness for Christ.
iluvschnix 1 year ago

It is a testimony of the divinity of Jesus Christ and the reality of His resurrection.
iluvschnix 1 year ago
@iluvschnix I'm enjoying this as well. I don't disagree that Mormons preach Christ as the source of salvation. It's the details of how we are saved through him that, like I said, makes all the difference. But to be honest, it is only one of the vast differences between our faiths. While I should finish the BOM as an exercise, from a faith standpoint it is completely unnecessary. Christ came, his gospel has been well preserved and proclaimed throughout the centuries. No restoration is required.

Friend, I dont believe anything thats not in the Bible, and thats not in there! What I do know is Ephesians 2:8-9 "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast."
adga140 1 year ago

Please check your facts before spouting off your ignorant assumptions!
edtech30 1 year ago
@edtech30 i'm taking my facts straight from your church leaders. With regards to the differences in our understanding of who Christ is, Gordon B. Hinkley said "The traditional Christ of whom they speak is not the Christ of whom I speak", LDS Church News 6/98. Is your Christ the one and only son of God who is in Triune relationship with him and the Holy Spirit, the eternal, uncreated word that was with God from the beginning by which all things came into existence? Hinkley would say no.
candrade001 1 year ago
@candrade001 I am sorry to tell you that this is where you have it wrong. Mormons don't have an alternate Jesus Christ. We believe in the Messiah that was foretold by all prophets of the Bible. The One that this masterpiece is praising and honoring. The One who was born of the virgin Mary, who died on the cross at Golgotha and was resurrected. The One who will return in glory. I'm sorry to say that whoever made the claim that Mormons worship a different Jesus lied to you. And lied big.
iluvschnix 1 year ago

Merry Christmas!
iluvschnix 1 year ago
@iluvschnix It is only a distortion if what I'm saying is untrue. What have i distorted? I believe I have remained respectful throughout. I meant no offense, but I do want to challenge who you believe Christ to be and I cannot withhold the facts purely for the sake of preserving your sensibilities. However, I won't disagree that I do have an agenda; and that is to proclaim the truth of who Christ is. It will be my prayer that one day you will accept this truth. Merry Christmas to you too!

Man, this music and performance is inspiring!!! I can't wait to see this live at Carnegie Hall during the Christmas season! When I first saw it, I think in 2005 or '06, it brought a tear to my eye! To finally see and feel live, the music I have loved since I was a child, was very moving.
