I find your tutorials really interesting but I don't understand if the two pois spin in the same direction or one is spinnig forward and the other backward!!
If you ever have the time to check out my posted videos I do both low and high reels pretty well. The high reels I can do over and over with no trouble, but the low reels throw me. I can do them by 1 or 2 beats by transitioning to something else, but if I stand there and try to stay in a low reel the behind the back spin is still throwing me off every time. I can put up a video response tomorrow and hope for a response. I already know the answer ... practice practice practice.
Yeah, that could be a good idea, it's good to get things down well, especially reels as they really are foundational to many poi moves. Post a response and I'll let you know how it is.
im confused though, i dont really see how these are any different except for being higher. doing both feel almost the same to me
are we supposed to change our hand/wrist positions between low and high? because i am leaving them about the same, just using the rest of my arm to elevate it
Yeah, the high reels are different to the low reels, not only are they held at a higher level, but the wrist action changes too. If you look at the wrists, when I'm doing low reels, the wrist is below the arm, while with high reels the wrist is above the arm. This sounds pretty self evident, but the feeling is different. Essentially, they are the same, just horizontally inverted. It shouldn't be too hard to learn, but it's still important to learn and get comfortable with this different position
You'll get them with practice man, I guarantee it. They do feel a little weird at first, but you get used to them. A lot of people feel scared of these because they feel they're going to hit themselves in the head, but in fact you're very unlikely to hit yourself in the head, because the centre of your poi's orbit is right next to your head, which means, so long and you're swinging the poi, they'll always be the poi length from your head. Best of luck.
Try this, it really works for me. When getting the move with each hand it's a bit difficult to start doing both hands, especially in split time, so I start counting like this: 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-TURN - each count is one swing. On every 8 swings you have 1 turn. When you feel comfortable try 1-2-3-TURN, then 1-TURN. It really helps me get the feeling. Have fun and don't give up!
Excellent advice. If you're ever uncomfortable with any new move, feel free to take some time between doing it to correct your planes, regain composure and prepare yourself for the next attempt.
i think these videos are great ive been practicing for 5 days i feel confident now

Yeah, that's a good point, I didn't really consider that at the time. I'll be sure to keep that in mind for future videos.
