  • I don't know why people try to compare two different music genre from two different countries and say this one is better than other one. It is just silly as comparing dog and cat, and ask which one you like better. Both kpop and jpop are great but plz dont think that one is better than the other because you like it.

  • @drjoohan you didn't watch this video, did you?

  • OK a third post lol. I would agree though with most here that Korea does seem to be promoting it's artists more. Yet J-pop has far more which could cross over. Many of my favorite groups of all time are J-pop. SoulHead, HeartsDales, Hime, X-Japan, Aural Vampire, Lecca, Koda Kumi, Namie Amuro, Utada, High & Mighty Color etc. So for group I would go with K-pop but for individual artists J-pop & J-Rock. Korea needs to work on getting more diversification but currently I give the edge to K-pop.

  • This really deserves a second post. Personally there are maybe 2 groups I like mainly being 2NE1 & BEG. What tends to get overlooked here though is how many great individual artists Korea as well as Japan has. They tend to get overshadowed by Idol groups though. Although have better potential crossing over. Lee Hyori, Chae Yeon, E.via, Lexy, Tasha, Lee Soo-Young. Boa I should mention but would kinda be an insult. Many of these girls look up to her anyways. J-pop though more more well rounded.

  • Wow and I thought Sones & BlackJacks were harsh lol. Truthfully probably K-pop for the moment mainly because there are more Koreans then Japanese here. Not to mention it is no secret how controlling Japanese labels are of their artists. Yet K-pop some would say is worse. Personally though I like both and I try to represent equally. J-pop no question has more artists and more choices in genres then K-pop. Not to mention I was say really better artists but K-pop is starting to catch up.

  • You brought up a such good point. The both sides should work together. Or at least respect the acomplishments of each art forms.

When it comes to sheer number of people knowing these two genres then it has to be jpop. But, in terms of popularity then it's kpop.

  • The reason why kpop is "in" america or the reason why they even try to "break in" is because they realize that they have a significant amount of fans here, its not like they come in and tries to force a country into liking kpop. they saw potential, and went along with it. their concerts get sold out so fast and thousands showed up for the new york festival (over 10,000). theres interest here which is what attracts them to the us. just sayin i love it not complaining, and im a white american lol

  • Great video!!! I love K-pop but it's nice to hear your thoughts on it. Girl's Generation was on Letterman a few days ago though~

  • I think that KPOP is more popular in U.S. JPOP is mainly targeting on domestic market, but KPOP is targeting on global market. KPOP is strongly supported by Korean government. so KPOP is more exposed in U.S

  • @channelernewsoku Actually the South Korean government does not really support Kpop... I heard it is fabricated by Japanese media..

  • @fakeperfum fabrication by Japanese media? what are you talking about? Korean government and Korean medias are not hiding fact that South Korean government is supporting Korean cultural contents including KPOP. I mainly read Korean POP culture news on Korean medias such as YONHAP NEWS and joongang.joinsmsn. Do you think even Korean media fabricate that?

  • @channelernewsoku Do you know that Yonhap News is very cheapy internet news which is not trustful at all?? I think u probably know Kimura Taro if you are a Japanese... This guy mentioned Kpop is fabricated by South Korean government in Fugi TV, however it has turned out to be a false rumor..

  • I cant see the vid but from the title I honestly believe jpop is more known in the u.s because of anime and video games

I could tell anyone about jpop or jrock and even if they arent fans of it they know but some ppl you mention them kpop and they are like o.o? is mostly popular with girls and usually just cuz they like how the guys look <-my observations

  • my honest opinion i think j pop sounds better...I really don't listen to their pop but I do always hear songs from both countries...However I believe korean pop is more popular

  • Billboard created a new top100 chart to cover kpop. Just goto billboard homepage.

  • hey don't make any comparison video of k pop and j pop its useless and from what i know korean don't talk about j pop like EVER but japanese all they take about is how j pop in better than k pop ~ just don't make this kinds of video lool

  • @tochjo772 I have the freedom to do as i please. same as you or anyone else. This video is my opinion and i didnt talk badly about either type of music. I can understand if i was bashing kpop or jpop but i am not.

  • @tochjo772

    your kidding right?

I've never been on a kpop video and people are saying jpop is better

its always kpop fans dissing jpop on their videos. kpop fans are mean also kpop fans are mean to each other

  • @UkexP that is so true

one of the reason I dont really listen to kpop now whenever I would watch kpop stuff the only ones dissing would be other kpop fans but in jpop/jrock stuff kpop fans go diss on them even on jdoramas -_- the only thing left would be anime but they dont dare diss on it cuz is awesome !

  • Jpop is way better because it sounds good even if you cant understand it

  • Yes, if we want to get along, let's stop posting vids of Kpop vs Jpop or Cpop or Apop. U know what i mean. Also, no, Kpop isn't desperate to get more popular. I'm not saying Jpop, Cpop, or Apop is bad. Their all amazing in their own ways.

  • Fundamentally Wrong Assumption: KPop artists are desperate, or very eager or whatever, to break into the mainstream US market.

LSM specifically said North American market is not important strategically. SNSD is releasing all those CDs in US only because Interscope took on all the risks.

2NE1 already have an album ready but don't think it's worth bothering... hence the delay upon delay.

WG will come back to US soon but it will be more of a market test event than anything else...

  • @ikickss there are so many korean artists that want to make it in the USA. I stated facts based on what i have heard and seen. SNSD wouldn't have tried to be in America if SM and themselfs didnt want to be. Its nothing wrong with having this goal. I see nothing wrong with it.

  • j-rock was influenced by british and american rock so is it fare to say that jap is a copy of the western rock? Music is inspired from everywhere. The only difference is KPOP is more diverse than J-pop. Which garners more fans world wide. JPOP is satisfied with their market so they only create bubbly kawaii girl groups with no talent.

  • Part 2: XD As to what is more popular it's mainly K-pop fans who feel some duty to Korea to put Japan down (seem not all and it does work both ways), it's pathetic Japanese artist are pretty chilled have been abroad plenty of times as well as K-pop stars; mainly new fans who want to start wars, plus Korean artist's wanting to break into Japanese market can't hate them that much then, just my theory it's a silly fan war argument.

  • Part 1: Amine/ manga had it's bomb from early 2000's to 2007/8 area. Japan/China will be recognised first before Korea due to earlier cultural exposure in the west. Most Japanese listener listened to J-Rock before J-pop as J-Rock is more popular than J-pop (my opinion).

  • i think if were just going off of which is more popular in general, i'd probably go more towards jpop than kpop because anime is already well established in the US and everyone knows what it is, and the people who are into anime get into jpop first and then kpop maybe. But i did meet someone at my school who does not watch kdramas or anime, that listens to kpop. So they are pretty neck and neck, but i'd lean towards jpop

  • (Part 2 of comment xD) - - > About K-music, it's the same in America and in France, it's more popular than J-music. But J-music is very rooted in France over K-music. For me, Japanese pop music is the best because I love language and some songs are original, instead of Korean pop music that starts to sound similar and there are too many groups. (PS: Sorry if I do some faults in my text! xD)

  • So, I can't say anything about the popularity of J-music and K-music in America but in France, I can! xD First J-music. J-music is very very popular in France because of mangas at first (In 2006, France is the second consumer of mangas in the world, after Japan of course), then with Internet, with french TV channel (like Nolife TV), with magazines (Japan Life Style, Made in Japan, etc.) and with conventions (Japan Expo in Paris).

  • Yeah, kpop is more popular. But is it better? I dont think so. Like everyone said, kpop artists trying hard to be mainstream... I like old kpop songs (before 2006-07). Nowadays its all abt luking cute..and bling bling... Not much gud music...

But on the other hand jpop is more consistent...they hv stuck to what they r gud at.. But i hv to say kpop artist hv tried to be more experimental, dared to take chances. Overall its about personal choice.....

  • OK I don't listen to j-pop, but I only listened to 3 or 4 songs two months ago and the Japanese voices are so annoying in it (sorry to say that)

so I don't like j-pop but I LOVE j-rock so awesome and great

Korean are good with pop, hip hop and rap

Japanese are good with rock, Electronic rock and punk

  • @sosokevin1 So true J-rock is the J-pop in Japan (Japanese popular music) J-pop is relatively new genre well modern J-pop; most people who listen to Japanese music are more into J-rock than J-pop another J-rock/pop lover her :D

  • K-pop is more popular

  • I have always loved jpop and started liking kpop a couple of years ago and I do agree. Kpop is getting more recognition but they still haven't reached for example Beyonce & Lady Gaga status. 2ne1 so far may have a good chance with the right promotion since they will work with Will-i-am but idk lol I just hope all the artists stay true to their music.

  • agree 100 % ! everything you said is very true.

  • here's the kpop section on the billboard chart that you mentioned: billboard*com/charts/*k-pop-hot-100#/charts/k-pop-hot-100 (delete the *'s)

  • @cconed ohhh ok! thank you. people were talking about it and i was like WOW REALLY?! Thanks for watching

  • I definitely agree with the KPOP changing part. I fell in love with the genre in around 2008 because of how different it was to American mainstream and now it's starting to sound all very similar. It's a bit disappointing. Japanese music in general has stayed pretty consistent and so is Mando pop. They aren't obsessed with dominating the US just yet.

  • K-pop is jjang!!
