that is like me to make a recording sung song of somebody say elvis presley and neil diamond songs to say my version is better. that would be insulting to me to say my version is better and their's are garbage.
i don't think neil diamond would appreciate your comment about the beach boys. in fact he probably respected the beach boys composition of the song so much it inspired him to record the song himself. to make a disrespectful comment like that at the beach boys is not only insulting to them but also insulting to neil diamond what he values singing too.
I think you're deaf fella, Beach boys were always wank anyway, Diamond is/was a superstar, beach boys were trumped up fuckin gay boys, irritating shit music.
"The wound is deep, but the love is deeper"... All wounds heal in time...mended from the love that flows from heaven upon the wind and in the melodies of songbirds in autumn. Does anyone have a nice follow up to this masterpiece, with a song called "You Dont Know ME"? Written by b. bacharach and sager>.sung by Neil Diamond?
you guys saying this "obliterates the beach boys version" are nuts and need to hear the original again. great cover though. also, it's semantics, but THIS is a version of THE beach boys song. it's the beach boys version, that's the true song imo.
@mangoshakess I totally agree, Neil is a legend and wrote a shit ton of music for the bands of the 60s but I still think the Beach Boys are way more legendary. Plus, they're not lame enough to do duets with Barbara Streisand. That shit shows a lack of class.
Thanks for posting this.... This is without a doubt the most beautiful love song ever written, and Neil does it more than justice.... "I may not always love you, but as long as there are stars above you, you never need to doubt it." How could you possibly top that lyric?????
Could you post the title song, "I'm glad you're here with me tonight"? This song and that one are my two favorites from that album... Thanks for posting this!
@PrplHazel Wish I could post "I'm Glad You're Here With Me Tonight" but while I do have it, it is locked. Bob Gaudio wrote that song. He worked with Neil on 6 of his albums as a song writer and/or producer. We remember Gaudio mostly for his connection with 'The Four Seasons" (Jersey Boys) but he wrote and produced for many people. Great song writer. I have not had luck finding that song and it maybe that Gaudio has copyright to it. Sorry
Neil Diamond tended to cover a few songs in his career and completely own them, this obliterates the beach boys version, same as Mr Bojangles. Shoulda released this into the charts years ago.
i once again come back to this song i am going through a very difficult time now in my life , and u know its true god only knows. thanx neil for always being there.
Too long over due. Neil Diamond only gave this song justice and made it what it is. Beach boys were never any good at anything. Crappy made up band of the sixties. Neil Diamond has the heart felt voice and experience to make it work.
It was when I heard Neil's version of this song back in 1978 that I finally discovered it is one of the greatest songs ever written.

The best song Brian Wilson ever wrote sung by one of the best singers.
