AMAZING!!!!!!! True talent. Excellent work. There are few songs that can take me to Ireland in a instant... this is one of them. Especially when sung by a voice like yours. Great job. Please don't stop!!!
Truly Beautiful and Haunting+++ It takes me back to those overcast, misty days standing on the rocky shores of "The Shrine of St.Therese" In Juneau Alaska...
Oh, Birds of Rhiannon; sing me your lullaby so that I may be cradled in the loving arms of Eternal Slumber...
I can never understand why people who post their performances omit their own names and instead label their clips with the name of some famous person who once did the song.
Most often, I'm disappointed when I expect a favorite artist and it turns out to be "some amateur" instead. In this case, however, I was very pleasantly surprised at hearing something new and unexpected.
This rendition is wonderful and stands on its own. Whoever you are, please put your own name on your work!
I'd like to compliment you on how great you did on singing this, but it seems a lot of people have beaten me to the punch. (Also their compliments are far better than whatever I could think up) So I will simply say... wow...
GORGOEUS! bad recording but truly beautiful, your voice and you rendition is woth noting! I also like yours better than Loreena's. It sounds more folk than hers. I love Sinead O 'Connors and Hayley Westenra's. BUT yours is just as good in my eyes than theirs! Make a better quality recording pls, I want to save it in my playlist and keep listening to it. I hardly listen to amateurs, too afraid to hear something horrible but yours was worth the try. I love it! Congratulations!
though it should be said that, if you plan to mostly sing opera, you shouldn't sing breathy (I know it's on purpose here), which is in essence improper fold alignment and could manifest via muscle memory, and you might have a hard time fixing it again for opera singing. I don't mean that it will sound as breathy, but the closing of folds might be slightly less than perfect and you wonder what's going wrong...
(besides, breathy singing tends to irritate the folds)
@GentleSavage1 thanks for the comment, I noticed that as well. :) well, I guess all non-pure-opera singers are caught somewhere between vocal health and importance of authentic expresion. ;)
You know what? This is so much better than McKennitt IMHO. She has more of a musical approach to the song, where you stay true to the folk interpretation.
You say you took operatic lessons, McKennitt uses elements of that as well.
It just doesn't go well along with folk songs, unless you sing them pure opera. She doesn't, and her work ends up like some airy fairy Irish romantic hybrid style. My apologies for being so harsh on her, but you do this better! All my best to you! <3
I really enjoyed this - you have a brilliant voice. One thing though - I thought this is a traditional folk (Irish/English?) song, Anne Briggs recorded it in 1963 and it was popularised by her.
OMG! That was gorgeous! I hope you are pursuing a career in music. I love your voice. Good job. Don't forget to thank God for the gift He has given you.
The version of this song I usually listen to was pulled by the user, so I chose yours instead. If you are as beautiful a person inside as your voice is, you're surely Fortune's favored! If I could only get your song on my Ipod - Arrrgh! Please put some more on the Tube. I'd love to hear you sing Bonny Portmore!
Since I heard this song I felt a connection with it, now I cant stop hearing it, many many years hearing it, and many versions, I always prefered Loreenna's version but yours is pretty close, love keeps going on even after this life, or maybe it is on the other side. Thank you for singing it so nice.
this might actually be the best version on youtube. i love the reverb and breathiness.

You are too modest, this is better than many so-called professionals, go for it

Just wondering, but does "Minstrel of the Old Kings" ring any bells for you? Your voice sounds familiar.

I meant to say, don't sing breathy very often.
Like, you sing opera 50% of the time and non-opera + breathy the other 50%, that would be bad I guess, it'd be a counter-training.

Again, great vocals although the recording quality is terrible.

You sing this beautifully. Many singers try to make it very pop or opera sounding with dramatic vocals but you have it spot on. Bravo.

The idea of an armature singing Loreena Mckennit makes me cringe. You are the exception, good job.
