  • Sad, but wonderful song. You did a wonderful job on this tribute to Johnny.

  • Mike, I would love to Home record this song to add a Paycheck vocal style to it. I home recorded "Old Violin" truley a GREAT Song summing up his life! " It's on my wall on Facebook. Will be playing soon with some of his old band members, sure would be great to do your song with them. Would you by any chance have the backing tracks for this song so I could see what i can do with it?? Contact me on Facebook posted 6/7/2011

  • dude you sound alot like your dad and love the song, ive made several trips to greenfield maybe you should remake some of the songs so the old violin doesnt have to die.

  • GREAT job Mike. RIP Johnny.

  • I agree this is a great tribute song to Johnny Paycheck (Donny Young).

  • awesome tribute to the man, thanx...

  • Fuckin' great song man!!

  • Mr. Paycheck was by many considered "No count poor white trailor park trash" hmmm I wonder if those were the same people that loved everything he did when he was making money hand over fist...... Great song and great voice, you did a heck of a job on this one Mike. Cheers and drink deep from the river of wine Mr. Paycheck you have earned it good sir.

  • I have never heard such a good tribute song to anyone....This dude is GOOD. RIP Johnny

  • Johnny's eyes look kinda spooky. When he glares at you with those dark eyes he reminds me of Charley Manson.

  • you are a really good singer keep it up i see you havent forgot the old singers but alot of people has

  • It was true Johnny was known as the MAN in the 70's. He wrote so much music for other singers as well like apartment #9 for Tammy.

  • Your singing is awesome!

  • Thanks for sharing this. Great job!! You have a fine voice!

  • GREAT artist.GOD loves us all.I hope As in THE OUTLAWS PRAYER .I'LL be seeing LORD"I HOPE". MAYBE you are up there SINGING.

  • A sad but extremely nice tribute.

  • Johnny could touch your heart with his music. I miss him, he did it his way. I respect that in a man. He will always be remembered by me.

  • this is good shit.. who is this guy. he is good......

  • his name is mike diamond' and he is a kick ass song writer out of florida

  • Nice Job. Not Back at all, Very good song! Skipped it a few times, but noticed a voice worth listening to. glad i did! Wish you well. Thanks!!

  • GO HARLIES DAD!!!!

  • Really love the song, very sad.

  • Great job, I played steel for paycheck 93-97, The paycheck I knew was a fun Loveing Man Like father to me. I would bring friends around, take them out on weekend tours, and john never minded, always treated them geat so when they came back to town they know first hand John was The Greatest. 2 slugs came between john and i, they know who they are, but the last of his years we fixed it and made it right. I love him and miss him everyday. The furthest thing from trash.

  • amen to that brother, amen indeed, the payheck will never die in the hearts off so many fans who loved his outlaw ways of saying stick it to the system, I am so glad you two made things right before he passed, you truely are blessed to have played with old hreatache himself, may he rest in peace and never be forgotten.

  • Good job! Singing AND writing AND playing!

  • Thanks so much for this great video - you have a wonderful voice Mike. I do like this song and it's such a great tribute to Johnny Paycheck. I've loved his music ever since I first heard him sing years ago - especially the romantic ballads. - Paula

  • Great song!

  • Johnny Paycheck-Simply the best!

  • Wow...have always loved Mr. Paychecks music...and as for you Mr Diamond. You brought forth some eyes that are no longer dry. Great tribute...thats my humble opinion.

  • Great tribute song Mike!

  • Thank You!

  • The inhaler was on his Bandit Amp not guitar

  • johnny would pull that inhaler out from his vest or pocket or just about any where' or in between songs for a quick burst and just look up and smile and continue on and never miss a note. i often wondered how he posessed such power in his voice

  • I played steel for Johnny in 1994 just after he got released. We went on his bus for a meeting before the show,I was standing right next to him andask him to reach me the coffee,He kind of smiled and said ,Get Your own dam coffee..I Loved Him and miss him to He sang his heart out that night and had trouble breathing,I tuned his Telecaster it had an Inhaler on top of it, RIP Johnny

  • I love the fact your a paycheck fan, I clicked on your page and you sing a great paycheck song. But I played for john from 93 to 97 when he got sick. I don't believe we ever met. where and when would you have had the chance to play for john? check out all of the videos on here from that time frame. Thats me playing steel.

  • WOW --awesome tribute to JP very nice thannk you

  • who ever called johnny white trash might want to think that he just might have family that looks at this so show some respect

  • Very Good!

  • By the way Mike, I love your song!

    Bubba C

  • Thanks!, Bubba C

  • Yea no doubt..Paycheck a real country legend. George Jones paid him for singing lessions! As far as some one calling him "White trash" I say to you...Takes trash to know trash. Its for sure nobody loves you when your down! Ive been playing music several years and when the locals came to see me when I was opening for some of the big names I had more friends than you could count! When my health went down and I got out of the music...Now I cant find any of them!

    Bubba C

  • Paycheck a true country legend. He is greatly missed. But bubba34 you are dead wrong, George Jones never paid him for singing lessons.

  • Johnny himself said he did lots of things he regreted doing. We all have. He was a victim of himself, and demons he couldn't control. It's bad enough to be "common white trash" and deal with addictions, imagine being a star. Everybody wants to be your "friend" and they all have "gifts". It happens time and time again. Right or wrong, John paid the price and now it's between him and God! No matter what ANYONE thinks about his antics, you can't deny he was one of the best country vocalist ever!

  • @MikeDiamondMusic -Your right, he was a great vocalist, and this was an awesome tribute song. I just wanted to chime in about the "white trash" comment.Paycheck was far from trashy. I used to travel with a local "Pittsburgh" legend named Frank Grill. Through Frank, who had been a DJ in Nashville, and knew many Country entertainers I met Paycheck on several different occasions. He was a kind soul, and most often he was the one giving gifts and trying to be your friend, not the other way around.

  • I don't know you or your daddy, but I'll tell you, I'm from Greenfield and knew John all my life and no one stepped over, on or through him, atleast not w/out making the local news that night. Its true he liked to drink, live life fast and hard, but he never took shit. Sure G'field took the Home of Johnny Paycheck signs down b/c some thought he was embarassing to the town. But you know what- they are back and instead of black and white they are in color. Oh btw, where's your daddys sign?

  • hfcenforcer ~ YOU ARE A ASSHOLE, AND THAT IS PUTTING IT NICELY!!!!!!! YOU NEED TO LOOK AT YOUR OWN DAMN FAMILY BEFORE CALLING SOMEONE ELSE WHITE TRASH!!!!

  • cagle123 great job good to hear a tribute to a great singer.

  • great job and johnny/donny was the original outlaw then came waylon, willie................... RIP i was a big fan

  • thats fuckin good dude long live paycheck

  • And why am I not hearing this on the radio?

    Nice tribute.

  • because if nashville would allow REAL country music like this' to be played on the radio' we would have less time to listen to rascal flatts''big and rich'and what ever. real country music hasent died'but it's getting harder to find.

  • that was awesome great video doug in tenn

  • THE LEGEND.

For ever J. Paycheck. Really nice. Thanks for posting.

  • Real nice,and fitting too.Thanks.

  • AWESOME RIP Donny Young.I was at work the day he died, and heard the bad news over WSM 650 it was a really bad day,but Eddie Stubbs played the hell out his stuff.

  • Hello Mike, That was great. Ole John was on of the best, he will never be forgot.... Terry from Kentucky.....

    Audrey..(A longtime PayCheck fan)

  • That is an awesome song. My was good friends with johnny sadly my dad has pasted away also. But I can remember him telling me storys about him and my dad at the hospital both waiting on there children to be born. I was one of this kids. LOL

  • I'm surprised to find this on YouTube! Isn't Greenfield close to Bainbridge?

  • bainbridge is just below greenfield.

  • As hard as Johnny PayCheck lived, I think this would have brought tiers to his face, i know it did me, as i write this comment

  • damn good song for a damn good singer

  • Excellent tribute to a man who is missed.

  • AWESOME !! THERE THAT'S BETTER!!

  • Excellent video, & Mike, you have a great voice-kinda Tracy Lawrence IMO! Johnny was a legend no doubt. I learned about Johnny's early stuff from Eddie Stubbs on WSM, who still sings his praises at least once a week (& plays a cut or 2 of his hard as nails stuff) I bought the "AKA Donny Young" CD sometime ago-& it really shows off Johnny at his best. Once again, great job!

  • Nice tribute, nice job. I like this.

  • great song about a wonderful man.he will be around as long as the angels he rode with rip.

  • This is a "real" country song! Good work.

  • very nice ...Johnny was one of a kind

there so many of the singers from his era that have passed on....he had that good honky tonk mojo

  • They'll never be another Paycheck, but he reminds me of Toby Keith.

  • Nice

  • Very Cool Song, and Tribute to Johnny Paycheck

  • Johnny is missed. That is real fine tribute. Also great steel too.

  • Hasard : bravo. EG (France where country fans survive !)

  • Awesome job Mike... Paycheck was cool personified!! There will never be anyone like him again. Love the clips with the Possum. That was Charley Justice on the fiddle, and Sonny Curtis on the steel.... Who did the steel work for you here?? That little ending sounded like Big Jim Vest. :^) Loved it!!
