from the solo onwards (3:00 --->) is just the most powerful emotion that ever spanned out to me in music. i love when zach whispers and then there's just the huge drop when he starts going crazy and morello starts railing away on his guitar while timmy keeps the song in line with the funky bass and brad wilk just fucks shit up on the drums. i wish ratm was immortal.
i have heard a couple of covers of this song.... and i like this band... but there are some songs that should not be covered no matter how much you like it. ...and this is one of them. for example, bauhaus did a brilliant cover of bowie's ziggy stardust. if you cant do it right .....dont bother....
I don't get it what's with these "Joe is rolling in his grave!" comments. I bet that Joe and The Clash would've loved this cover, the Clash was always about breaking genre created walls to me, using ingredients such as hip-hop, jazz, rockabilly and naturally, reggae. So why would they dislike this cover? Doesn't make sense.
Agree. Same way they "punked up" songs by Junior Mervin back in '77. You think "Police and Thieves" really sounds the way the Clash did it? Of course not. It's all about adding flavor to existing material...but the key is respecting the material.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
honestly, i dont like the original version of the clash... they are not my style... but this cover is great, i would like to have this in a high quality
i respect them as musicians i know tom morello is a huge clash fan and i love rage against the machine but this cover really isnt for me not saying it sucks its just not my type and i think i speak for all the people that says this "sucks" its not that it sucks just not our style thats all RATM is good
btw its also crazy to see how quickly they made the change to playing the hiphop influenced music we know them for. there is a video of zach playing with Inside Out earlier that same year.
I think Zach's voice was still developing. He should def not have done this as a rap song. Rage did a good cover of 'In my eyes' by Minor Threat and 'Kick out the jams' by MC5, so i think they couldve done a good cover of this, they were just young.
Agreed. I love rage and the clash, but the two are like oil and water, despite the clash's influence. The Clash and Rancid perhaps...but this just sounds awkward.
lol, you think people who look up obscure RATM videos give a flying shit about your chain letter? your message fell on ears that are not deaf, but simply dont care. just sayin...
You can hear all the elements of Rage that would propel them to stardom and it's so fitting that they're covering The Clash since they pioneered the rap/rock sound just as The Clash fused reggae and punk.
I just wished they'd recorded this song for Renegades...
wow it's 1991, Zack(the lead singer) is only 20 yrs old here!!! of course the cover from Berlin 2008 is gunna be better but this is amazing considering their age
To be honest i think both versions are great. of course the clash version is better, they fucking wrote it. but zack isnt much of a singer, they just threw their own twist on it is all. but have you listened to Renegades? that shits the bomb. and most of those covers are better then the original on that record.
why did they do such a terrible thing to this song? i used to be a big RATM fan so it's not that i don't like them in general but i think that was an awful cover...
well it was early days for them- they were gonna be kind of shitty. Just look at how much better they are now than then- 17 years ago they wouldn't be anywhere near as good.

Yeah! Zack left Inside Out in roughly june, 1991. Zack took "Darkness of Greed" (a former I.O. song) and altered it a bit. they covered clampdown. they came up with the instrumental of "killing in the name" and got a rough idea of what their debut album songs would sound like a year and 10 days later. Their debut was released on November 3rd, 1992 FYI.
FCuk this shit! Joe Strumer is crying from his burial site at this shit. Zack's a good rapper, and a madiocre but this is growling. this shit fucking sucks!
I hop Joe strummer haunts these fuckers for years to come. Theyse fellas aren't getting any sex if they perform like this.
Anyways, Tim is awesome on guitar, and the quality's decent. yhanks for this shit, zapatistadif.

I dont seee why people think thi sucks. i like the clash and I LOVE RATM butm i personally think this is better. is Clash's good YES but this is a bit better personaly
Now this is how a cover should be done. Respect to these guys for doing the cover in their own way, and not just trying to imitate the band by doing the song exactly the way the original was played.
I was INTENTLY watching I wasnt thinking of moshing. You mosh when there's people surrounding you and it's very crowded. This was open. I was also enjoying it too much. i wanted to listen to the lyrics and check out Zack's energy at the time. After I herd take the power back I knew theu were political and I, already liking Public Enemy picked right up. I aws hooked
I was surprised on the songs they chose to cover for Renegades. I'm surprised RATM didn't cover any Public Enemy, N.W.A., KRS-One, Wu-Tang Clan, or 2PAC, and for Rock/Metal - The Sex Pistols, The Ramones, and Inside Out. RATM could've covered "Burning Fighht" Damn that would be awesome. Or some Lock-Up songs. Or even they can brng Juvenile Expression back into play. Hell Zack and Tim together would be able to recall some lyrics and riffs from their old 80's punk band
That' not gonna happen. It would be nice for Zack to get the dreads back to, but its no longer his style.
at 38, being able to be taken seriously with dreads is hard, and with zack's recent weight gain : NO WAY.
tHATS WHAT HAPPENS AFTER 7 YEARS OF SITTING ON THE COUCH WATCHING tv. IN THE 90'S MAN ZACK WAS JUMPIG AROUNDS AND SHIT, THERES NO WAY HE WOULD EVER HAVE BEEN BIG
Don't tell me what the i said, i was the one that asked. Rob henneman is the name of the long-haired fellow with the backwards baseball cap to the front left, right in front of the satge. @ :10 he asks me "are these guys any good" i REPLIED "i HEAR THEY'RE PRETY GOOD". me and rob still keep in touch, so dont act like I dont know his name , etc.
I was 19 at this show(20in2weeks).
I was the longhaired fellow to the right of rob with the circular CSUN logo on the back of my shirt.
and then I turn to my the guy behind me (I dont know who he is never met him) because he , Let's hope they're as cool as their name" and we smile for a second.
I have a Hit the Deck tape that a friend recorded at from a March, 1992 RATM show at a club called the Whiskey. The quality is ABSOLUTELY terrible, twice as bad as maniacs version of Bullet/hit the Deck, but it's from 92, is really dusty, haas been used/watched numerous times, and was filmed on a really cheap camera, and it weas dark in the club, but take it or leave. I also have a better quality version of clampdown performed at this show. I wonder if there's any footage from the livingroom gig
great to watch this...is just ask myself who of those guys from the audience was them expect to becom one of the most amazing live acts headlining the biggest festivals. saw the one week ago in Berlin. The covered this song too
Ratm covers are the BEST covers, cus they put the songs into their style, they add to it, and they actually do work when they cover it, not like some bands that steal everything when they do a cover
The Clash . . . Was "The only band that mattered". . . Until RATM.

Saw them play this at Antwerp, Belgium 06/02/2008. Sounded awesome! You gotta see it live (or some good footage) to really appreciate it.

Ratm covers are the BEST covers, cus they put the songs into their style, they add to it, and they actually do work when they cover it, not like some bands that steal everything when they do a cover
Viva la RATM!!!!!!!!!!
