  • The Clash . . . Was "The only band that mattered". . . Until RATM.

  • I like it because I laughed.

  • from the solo onwards (3:00 --->) is just the most powerful emotion that ever spanned out to me in music. i love when zach whispers and then there's just the huge drop when he starts going crazy and morello starts railing away on his guitar while timmy keeps the song in line with the funky bass and brad wilk just fucks shit up on the drums. i wish ratm was immortal.

  • zack killed it he's a fukin beast

  • Man, Zach is so fucking dope

  • It's kind of heartening that RATM started out as a bad cover band....

Just goes to show, some people grow into themselves.

  • rap= fail

  • @RussianBear05 yeah, because the clash wrote the their material for people who have closed minds and expect things to always be the same. get fucked.

  • @RussianBear05 Joe Strummer was a fan of rap music actually. He would probably appreciate this cover.

  • @RussianBear05 <Republican.

  • i have heard a couple of covers of this song.... and i like this band... but there are some songs that should not be covered no matter how much you like it. ...and this is one of them. for example, bauhaus did a brilliant cover of bowie's ziggy stardust. if you cant do it right .....dont bother....

  • Not the worse cover ever but not particularly good either.

Sometimes these things work well and sometimes, like in this case, they sound average.

That said, it is difficult to cover clash songs well.

  • My band Le Mouvement, similar to Rage Against The Machine /watch?v=NVp2zI9FHp4

  • hmm interesting, thx for sharing, but the crowd is dead:l

  • This is actually pretty bad. It doesn't compare at all with The Clash's version. De La Rocha shouldn't try singing.

  • @12toedfeet this is actually pretty cool cover; it's original. His singing is minimal. They weren't trying to "do" the clash's version. clearly.

  • ive never heard a cover that can compete with the clash. i just did.

  • Kudos to the guy that said, "these guys any good?"

    Had no fucking idea...

  • they wrecked with the rap part...

  • at :10

    "Are these guys any good?"

    Response: "HELL YEA!"

  • And someone tell me why this wasn't on Renegades?! great cover i love the verse riff

  • The riff...soooo damn good

  • oo god i know right

  • A 'cover' that repects but adds it's musical theory, style, identity. If I were to see them i'd say... 'a promising bunch of kids. Good'

Remind me of belgian band Urban Dance Squad.

  • "Are these guys any good?" haha...

  • If I were Emperor, certain sounds would not allowed to be "covered", as said covers would obviously suck compared to the original.

This is one of them, as aptly demonstrated by RAtM.

    Donavan said it all: Lame.

  • this is a lame cover

  • "Are these guys any good?"

Does Charlie Daniels play a mean fiddle?

  • @Anchoses

haha charlie daniels! the best part is when he takes that food from that guy at the table

  • this is a stupid cover. zach ruins it. thumb me down all you want.

  • look at the crowd..they stand still...wtf are they singing? lol

    nice cover

  • hmm...are these guys any good...easy question with an obvious anwser... no shit!!!!!!!!!

  • haha funny guy at bigining asks

    "are these any good''

prety awsome to hear them not being big jet

  • This would've worked out better if they changed the key so Zack could sing within his vocal range which is higher. Dammit.

  • I don't get it what's with these "Joe is rolling in his grave!" comments. I bet that Joe and The Clash would've loved this cover, the Clash was always about breaking genre created walls to me, using ingredients such as hip-hop, jazz, rockabilly and naturally, reggae. So why would they dislike this cover? Doesn't make sense.

And by the way, I really like this cover :3

  • Agree. Same way they "punked up" songs by Junior Mervin back in '77. You think "Police and Thieves" really sounds the way the Clash did it? Of course not. It's all about adding flavor to existing material...but the key is respecting the material.

  • RATM and the clash are my 2 fave bands of all time.

this cover not great but they cant do wrong in my eyes

  • Aweful !!! Is Hack english, like Madonna ?

  • Damn this is good, Love the clash song done "RAM" style lol

  • Erm... I hope they aren't buried with him, they're still alive, aha, besides Joe of course haha....

  • how can the clash not be ur style u smug wanker

  • What...the fuck..is this

    LOL this is retrarded

  • "Are these guys any good?" FUCK YES THEY ARE

  • this is RAD. check the crowd -- there are 12 people there, and most of them look dead, a few head-shakers. this is right up the rage alley!

  • i respect them as musicians i know tom morello is a huge clash fan and i love rage against the machine but this cover really isnt for me not saying it sucks its just not my type and i think i speak for all the people that says this "sucks" its not that it sucks just not our style thats all RATM is good

  • this is a good cover/remix//whatever the people talking shit dont know Rage...

  • Killer fuckin` band covering another killer fuckin bands song.

    Long live the Clash !

  • i dont know why every one hates this i like it

  • btw its also crazy to see how quickly they made the change to playing the hiphop influenced music we know them for. there is a video of zach playing with Inside Out earlier that same year.

  • Haven't heard an "inside out" reference in about 15 years. Well played

  • aint as bad as everyone is making it out to be, imo. i could at least listen the whole way through. xD

  • "are these guys any good?" hahaaha

  • haha i laughed about that too.

little did that guy know xD

  • I think this was just a treat for Tom Morello, thats probably the biggest reason for why they covered the songs.

Joe Strummer was his hero, and in the last years his friend.

  • Fuck you

  • fuck you dude this song is sick

you dont know shit about music

  • Fucking Disgusting....

  • and fuck you

  • I think Zach's voice was still developing. He should def not have done this as a rap song. Rage did a good cover of 'In my eyes' by Minor Threat and 'Kick out the jams' by MC5, so i think they couldve done a good cover of this, they were just young.

  • Unfortunately there is a 2008 live version of this and it sounds just as bad.

  • LOL at :09 "are these guys any good?"

  • i like rage but this i a piss take there turning a brilliant song and ruining it. i agree joe strummer deserves more respect R.I.P joe.

  • Agreed. I love rage and the clash, but the two are like oil and water, despite the clash's influence. The Clash and Rancid perhaps...but this just sounds awkward.

  • lol, you think people who look up obscure RATM videos give a flying shit about your chain letter? your message fell on ears that are not deaf, but simply dont care. just sayin...

  • Damnit...Honestly this wasn't me. Something must have happened because these piss me off and I wouldnt put these around. I must've been hacked. Sorry

  • I was looking around on other videos because I saw that they were on there too.

  • im sure this comment will get thumbed down by the fan boys but.. this is shite

  • zach warin a hat

  • 00:07

  • actually it is good..

  • ...

  • Fantastic!

  • very bad...

  • This is terrible. Joe Strummer deserves more respect than this.

  • Wow. And then he started to sing. Alas.

  • this is fucking awful.

    The Clash deserve WAY better.

  • I agree.

  • Clash rulz, and this comfirmes that..when a band like RATM covers Clash's song, what is there more to say? :)

  • that guy in the beginning goes "are they any good?" HAHAHAHAHA

  • Gems like this are the reason I love youtube.

You can hear all the elements of Rage that would propel them to stardom and it's so fitting that they're covering The Clash since they pioneered the rap/rock sound just as The Clash fused reggae and punk.

I just wished they'd recorded this song for Renegades...

  • Such a great performance and nobody is clapping. Such a bunch of douches

  • The verses just dont work in this version

  • this band was way before their time, but that's hard to say since there still hasn't been anyone like them since

  • dude they are covering a clash song from 1980

which is cool cause it's such a good song

but by your logic that makes the clash way way b-4 their time

  • this song as from 1979

  • that is entirely possible

  • wow it's 1991, Zack(the lead singer) is only 20 yrs old here!!! of course the cover from Berlin 2008 is gunna be better but this is amazing considering their age

  • I'm not gonna lie, the oney played in Berlin was a lot better.

  • not good, they're GREAT!!!

  • HA HA yeah, are these guys any good?

  • this is super badass

  • To be honest i think both versions are great. of course the clash version is better, they fucking wrote it. but zack isnt much of a singer, they just threw their own twist on it is all. but have you listened to Renegades? that shits the bomb. and most of those covers are better then the original on that record.

  • pete doherty's band(not sure which one) did a decent cover of janie jones

  • why did they do such a terrible thing to this song? i used to be a big RATM fan so it's not that i don't like them in general but i think that was an awful cover...

  • well it was early days for them- they were gonna be kind of shitty. Just look at how much better they are now than then- 17 years ago they wouldn't be anywhere near as good.

  • the clash version is far far faaar better.

    the Clash forever!

  • hahahahahhaha at the begining "are these guys any good?" HAHAHAHA YESSSSS

  • haha awesome shout, WORKIN FOR THE CLAMPDOWN

  • this is dope!

There is some good information in earlier posts that are now practically hidden from view because of wasted comment space.

  • lol "Are these guys anygood?" 0:09

  • Amazing band and way better than the "chokes" version.

  • epic.

    Rage FOREVER

  • sooooooo was this right after zack was singing for inside out???

  • Yeah! Zack left Inside Out in roughly june, 1991. Zack took "Darkness of Greed" (a former I.O. song) and altered it a bit. they covered clampdown. they came up with the instrumental of "killing in the name" and got a rough idea of what their debut album songs would sound like a year and 10 days later. Their debut was released on November 3rd, 1992 FYI.

  • I actually didn't think it was that bad considering they were teenagers.

  • Fuck you! they were in their early 20's.

This is the better version, at least in my opinion.

  • damn, dude! nice tape!

  • i agree and i know a lot of people disagree with u but this is just horrible!! i like rage they kick ass but this just isnt good srry guys!
