Then 9-11 happened, Bush got aggressive on the War on Terror, which got the Colombian government aggressive which got the Colombian military and police aggressive. In 2009, FARC controlled less than 1% of Colombia. Colombia now has 120 special operation forces in Afghanistan. FARC went from a major terrorist group to just a bunch of drug dealers.
The Colombian people saw FARC for what they really are and stopped supporting them, and Uribe chased them out of the cities. Thats what helped. The US bombings have the opposite effect. As always.
