  • Yeah its such an old argument.. regardless my Trust T78 has never had a BOV on up to 20psi for the last 3 years.. and the turbo's in great bearing tolerances and doesnt blow smoke.. go figure.

  • For those complaining about surge..... this kind of surge is FINE.

    if you really learn how to read compressor maps, the other kind of surge, when the turbo is fully spooled, under load at a given RPM point, is what blows turbos, not by having a BOV too strong or not having one at all.....

  • I get comp surge unless i hit 10 psi. My supra doesn't make power unless it has load so I cannot trigger comp surge or BOV without the car moving. I hate how ppl can rev their vehicle and their BOV goes off, that's sick.

  • @tienshenhan86 yo dude i am having the same problem with my sr20det red top i just got a greddy type rz bov and it doesnt go off until i build up pressure in the hotpipe ive ran it with all different settings and still no avail...

  • @S13240sxUser I figured it out, I had the bov connected on the charge/intercooler pipes instead of on a source from the manifold BEHIND the throttle butterfly. Use a source right off the throttle body/intake or T one off and it will be night and day!

  • It's funny to see how little people know about turbocharging. He is only getting surge because he hasn't built enough boost for the blow off valve to actuate. This is common on all mid to large frame turbochargers.

  • @95GST16g oky thanks.if your blow off is soft and small hole for the pressure you load your engine but you still have good pressure... when you let off the throttle will that surge appear?as the blow off cant handle the boost?

  • I'm not sure what scenario your presenting but look up how a BOV works and what it looks like inside, it will help you understand many situations. The spring inside is what we're talking about when we say "soft" or "hard." Its the preload to keep the BOV closed at partial throttle and such, as well as hold more boost. Softer spring = release at lower boosts but wont hold higher boost.

    i have the same turbo on my FD RX-7 with a Tial BOV.... it will still surge, the T04 like of HKS turbos has a very different compressor map than that of other T04 family turbos from any other company. the HKS T04's inherently surge.

    this surge is typical of any small frame turbo that flows lots of CFM, which the HKS' TO4 family does.

  • No it was production model turbo AWD 3SGTE. I think it was the ST205 Celica chassis. Its the Celica GT4 or the Alltrack depending on what part of the world youre in

  • u cannot compare a 2jz with a sr20...sr20s are the lil retarded sisters of nissan...the rb engines are the high end makes from nissan. and the 2jz even shits on all that. its a shame toyota never made a AWD car because 9/10 a Skyline would destroy a supra based on the fact that it puts that power to the road better. 2jz will always be a better engine....just a shit drivetrain.

    the 2jz block is a better design, then that of the rb26. but RB's have set records all over the world so there's no shame in rockin one.

    Nissan is amazing... and so is toyota.

  • 2jz are the toughest straight 6 engines to come out of the japan. they can run 400rwkw and still run factory internals.....surge on big turbos is normal and natural.....due to the fact that they flow so much air not all of it gets expelled, which ultimately sends it back throguh the turbo causing surge.
