  • "You've changed, Dutch." My favorite SNL sketch.

  • I dont care if he was the best or worst president its funny dammit

  • Comment removed

  • Dear Mr. Hartman...I miss you. You brought such desperately needed laughter to us who loved your comedy.

  • Reagan is a true American hero. That said, this is funny. And also, SNL isn't that bad today! I've seen a lot of funny sketches recently, I just think people remember the past in highlights, and usually only the best are retained.

  • @PIAF22, Reagan was a demented idiot. Case closed.

  • @timparcival Case closed because some kid on the Internet says so.

  • Man why did the skit cut out early? Amazing none the less

  • Lol. That was good.

  • One of the best SNL clips ever. Ronal Reagan: MASTERMIND!

  • its funny cause the behavior of reagan was portrayed so perfectly

  • I like how he speaks FARCI at one point.

A lot of people suspected Reagan had a side like this.

  • Hellaz, you took the words right outta my post. I MISS PHIL!

  • I like how he talks Jambi to the Iraqi on the phone

  • LOVE old SNL, but i completely, 100%, without a doubt gave up on SNL when justin timberlake started appearing in skits. That's when i knew it was over for me.

  • @GarbagePaleKidd While I agree that SNL's glory days are over, Timberlake's the "Dick in a box" sketch is a classic.

  • @msaroff You cannot know that because SNL is an ever-evolving show with an ever-increasing alumnus. You cannot predict the future of SNL.

  • @GarbagePaleKidd

Funny thing is, Timberlake is funnier than most of the cast.

  • Yes, SNL does suck today, it really sucks big time

  • How about the "October Surprise" treason in 1980?

Uh huh the doddering ole grandpa didn't know nothin' about that either.

  • this is hilarious because it's so accurate.

politicians who cry ignorance while behind the scenes they're

    totally micro managing everything.

  • I don't see this as anti-Reagan. I'd love for a president to be as bad ass as Phil Hartman.

  • "Don't Make me have to kill you Jimmy..."

  • @Righteousclaim Oh fine, good.

  • I wonder if Reagan ever saw this sketch?

  • Great, but the clip is incomplete. Please post the full version.

  • Why oh why the best have to die to soon?

  • This isn't just comedy, this is pure acting.

  • Hey, Reagan admits to funding Al-Qaeda's predecessor and talks to Saddam on the phone. Funny thing is, this is basically historically accurate.

  • God I wish Phil Hartman and Chris Farley didn't die. Fucking hilarious.

  • Ah Totally Classic! SNL has never been as good as in the days of hartman, farley, carvey, sandler, lovitz, and mike myers

  • RIP Phil Hartman

  • I remember the golden years of SNL with Belushi, Aykroyd, Radner and Curtin. Comedic talents all, and some excellent skits that still make me laugh today. But they pale next to the genius of Phil Hartman, and this Ronald Reagan send-up was the cream of the crop. There has never been a better live comedy sketch, and I doubt there will ever be another that even comes close.

  • I remember watching this on television years ago. I think this is truer than we would like to believe. Brilliant!

  • if libs had any guts and creativity, the SNL would do so much with a slacker over his head president obama and his obnoxious dominating wife, the sasquatch

  • "i want you to supervise the loading" hahahaha thats so funny

  • 1:02 "i want you to supervise the loading" lol

  • love the part where Reagan is faster than a calculator :D

  • haha this is genius comedy...hartmann RIP he was the best.

  • Phil Hartman and Chris Farley were the true stars of SNL. The ratings were always up and top of their ratings. The laughs were true and timeless. Now that these two guys are gone, SNL talent has been in a slump since.Filled with actors out of actor classes the show just labors year after year. It has sunk to an intellectual basin for years. Can SNL from their year-by-year interia or is it a walking time-capsule that needs to be buried. So far I have seen nothing interesting to change my mind.

  • Notice how everyone MEMORIZED their lines? Now the actors stare blankly just right of the camera reading lines.

  • This crap sucks!!!

  • Too bad SNL sucks so bad now. It's beyond repair I think...

  • I've seen this skit before and there's more. Do u have the rest?

  • Ronald Reagan is where he belongs, burning in hell for his murderous and treasonous ways, although he'll have to make room for the entire Bush family someday.

  • @havertrace Rev Wright is that you?

  • @havertrace wussy liberal cream puff

  • Tony Farrell: British Whistle Blower Fired for Exposing 9/11

    as “State Sponsored Terror”

A British police intelligence analyst who was asked to create a strategic assessment concerning terror threats was fired when he told his superiors that the threat of an “internal tyranny” was far greater than that of Islamic terrorism, after discovering that both 7/7 and 9/11 were false flag attacks.

  • 8 people just don't know what real comedy is.

  • @AHippieFrom1969 8 people were killed by ronald reagan

  • Comment removed

  • I love Reagan, yet this is hilarious! :D

  • @SamLangille19 Dana Carvey

  • "Jimmy, don't make me have to kill you!

Haha oh how the world misses Phil Hartman after all these years.

  • Can you overly defensive Reagan lovers just shut the fuck up and enjoy the sketch? Bunch of babies...

  • It was Cuba and Russia, during the Cold War. They has set up missiles that could lauch and reach as far as the southeast corner of America. It was called the Cuban Missile Crisis and Kennedy was president.

  • @philsnk

And that was in response to the missiles America had placed in Turkey that could have wiped out large parts of Russia.

  • Best President ever !!

  • Reagan may have STOOD for smaller gov't, less taxes, spending etc. He even said he was a christian.

But sadly what people (especially politicians) say and what they actually believe are sometimes different things. Much of what Reagan did belied much of what he said, much of what he believed were core values.

It's head shakenly weird to realize how many americans hold him in such high esteem.

  • That picture is of AFGHANISTAN.!!

  • Reagan stood for small government, and self reliance. We wouldn't have the 14 trillion dollar debt today if presidents after him followed his lead. If only the democrat controlled congress had listened to him in the 80's. Money to the treasury doubled during Reagan's term, but so did the spending. Thank you Tip O'neil. Reagan was a great president. Never let anyone tell you different.

  • @vanmoody How is he for small government? He significantly increased the size of the military and raised taxes 4 times during his presidency. And yes, Reagan was a great president if you were stock brokers, upper classed, or religious:p

  • @wangsta25 Let's get some facts straight. The constitution says we are to have a military. Reagan knew we needed a strong military in case we went up against the USSR. Another point to be made Tip O'neil was a democrat. He was the Speaker of the House. The democrats owned both houses during Reagan's presidency. So for you to say Reagan raised taxes is not right. It was democrats who did it. The first few years Reagan did lower taxes, and that's why we had prosperity.

  • @vanmoody Let's get some facts straight, big military=big government. Spending grew exponentially under Reagan, so you have him to thank for current deficit crises. Oh, and yes, we did have prosperity in the 1980's, at least the top 5% of the most wealthy of us did. Those who exaggerate Reagan's economic legacies often only look at those who did benefit from Reagan (the wealthy minority) and totally ignore facts like growing income inequality, no increases in real wages, and growing deficit.

  • @wangsta25 Another wrong thing. The middle class grew a ton under Reagan. Everybody did well. The black middle class tripled. If only the government would have cut spending, we wouldn't be in this 14trillion mess.

  • @vanmoody Everything grows a ton when you use 10 credit cards to buy everything. It's when you have to pay those cards back is when things get real.

  • @numnunums And our country is about to go through exactly what you are saying. You can't keep borrowing. Eventually you run out of money. America will have to learn to tighten her belt or this great nation will cease to be a place of liberty and justice for all.

  • @vanmoody Reagan himself said that deficits don't matter. Are you calling him a liar?

  • Can you tell me where that is quoted from? He was probably quoting a liberal.

  • @vanmoody Reagan stood for destroying workers' rights and central american genocide. Some guy.

  • @rujiel17 Are you talking about the Air Traffic Controllers? Yeah go ahead and let them cripple American progress with their strike. He was right to fire them. As far as Central America goes Reagan didn't want communism spreading down there. If you don't like what he did to stop it, that is one thing. But at least agree with him that Communism is a bad thing. It's defeat was justified.

  • @vanmoody Communism was a pleasant excuse for crushing any populist movement or enabling industry to exploit them--this was a relevant excuse you'll find any administration through the cold war using to justify aggression on the rest of the world. On top of that, he allowed the CIA to assist gangs in shipping drugs into the country in order to fund their illegal wars. Put bluntly, we backed some terrible people and a whole lot of innocents died brutally. Communism in this case is a red herring.

  • @rujiel17 Do you think the problem might be that we have to support the lesser of two evils?

  • @vanmoody Every cruel aggression in the history of our country was an ostensible "have-to" at the time..

  • @vanmoody Dumb-dumb President Bush caused the biggest debt, followed by Reagan. And congress passed a budget in line with Reagans budget. You are ignorant and your criticisms are void of facts; you are a hollow, empty-shell of a man...

  • @0hs0Zen0 So you must be against Barack Hussein Obama then right? He has accumulated as much debt as Bush did in less than half the time. I want you to think about this. You are saying that Tip O"Neil a hugely liberal Speaker of the House and the liberal senate all played ball with Reagan? No way should you believe that. They didn't lower spending during Reagan's years, they increased it on their pet projects. Perhaps you need to get your facts straight. Nothing personal. :-)

  • No one does presidential sketches like SNL. Classic.

  • At the time the sketch aired, no one (not even in the conservative press) thought, even for a fraction of a second, that Ronald Reagan had any idea of the real machinations of his administration, much less the ability to guide events or policy with any such skill and Macchiavellian ruthlessness, much less a grasp of geopolitics, literature, Arabic, etc. Funny premise - how we laughed ! If only we'd known he really WAS a secret genius and not merely a telegenic PR mascot. Live and learn !

  • He was so corrupt...God Bless Phil Hartman

  • My favourite Phil Hartman skit of all time..No matter how many times Iv'e seen this..It still cracks me up to the point of puking...Phil was one of the best..R.I.P

  • I hear this all the time in far fewer words. Not one of these idiots has been able to debunk the man's legacy without using blanket condemnations and gnashing their teeth at straw men. Conservatism is not going away because the natural law, which its followers regard and respect, is not going away. People need to get over it. I'm 19 years old, the most rebellious age, and even I'M right-wing by choice...

  • @BrotherAtticus

You're an idiot by choice. Thanks for telling people how the world works when you're only fresh out of high school.

  • @sventoby For people of such enlightenment--I'm sorry, knowledge of "how the world works"--there seem to be a lot of miserable alcoholics, sexual deviants, and overall pessimists around, acting as if what their parents, pastors, or mentors once taught them means nothing "just because" they were young at the time. Reagan--president in his seventies, no less--didn't readily reflect this attitude of many "adults." So I guess you're right, growing up may one day be my own greatest tragedy...

  • I am a Reagan fan :)

  • The Plutocrates and those in denial love this War Criminal.

He should of Hung for Treason but he was a very devious man who knew how to play the idiots.

  • Reagan was one of the greatest leaders in history, the man won the largest electoral and popular vote victory in history. 65% popular 95% electoral.

  • @countrylifterdw

Actually Reagan didn't win the largest popular vote in history. And it was 58.77% not 65% of the popular vote he carried in 1984.

  • @Einsteinbomb You are correct, I apologize for my misstatement on the popular vote. However, the 58.77% is still a massive lead. The election was called in the mid evening, the American people gave Reagan a blank check. No matter how hard you try to degrade Reagan, you will be unsuccessful , of all the Presidents since Truman only Reagan is likely to emerge as a Great President.

  • @countrylifterdw

"No matter how hard you try to degrade Reagan, you will be unsuccessful , of all the Presidents since Truman only Reagan is likely to emerge as a Great President."

LOL. Where was I degrading Reagan? I just don't see how you got 65% popular vote when in fact it was 58.77%. "...the man won the largest electoral and popular vote victory in history. 65% popular 95% electoral", please leave the historical facts to the people who have an understanding about what they are.

  • @countrylifterdw being popular does not a good president make

  • @jerzy862 obama proved that

  • @jerzy862 obama proved that to be true

  • @Joker3188 obamas ratings are around 40%, i wouldnt call him popular

  • This is one of my top 5 SNL skits of all time.

  • Reagan was a crook, people just choose to ignore it.

  • @havertrace you bitch, if it wasnt for him, the 80's wouldve turned to shit

  • @FireFoxy67 80s were shit

  • @MrVarhansen tell me how then.

  • Where did comedy go when Phil Hartman died? Down along with everyone after the 90's

  • so called terrorist organization that was later blamed for 911. He hand picked and sponsored Obama into office. I hope he is planning to do to America what he did to the soviets. He is very cold, very intelligent and rather scary.

  • I just think it's funny they say "over there on the WORD PROCESSOR, and its not a joke. Fuckin 80s man.

  • This was a brilliant concept...SNL used to do these kind of elaborately conceived sketches quite well, but later on just fell back on "recurring" characters and "catch phrases"...It's a lot more work to write an actual skit...

  • @wsterbrg Even in its heydey, SNL has done that. This skit was very brilliant, definitely.

  • I'm not the only one who looked it up after that HBO special.

  • Admit it, you youtubed Reagan+SNL after watching the HBO thing

  • BACK TO WORK!

  • 5 dislikes. Just proving yet again that there are people who are just simply unreasonably stupid

  • Hartman was just so funny.

he was my all-time favorite snl performer.

    i miss him

  • What was so scary is that Phil Hartman's impersonation of Reagan was so spot on when the cameras weren't rolling. Many former aides of Reagan said this is what he was really like behind the closed doors.

  • "Jimmy! Don't make me have to kill you!"

  • Comment removed

  • This has become a very famous SNL sketch as many historians feel this essentially nails Reagan's personality. In the new documentary REAGAN they actually discuss this sketch.

  • I love it, hilarious -- he seems bumbling and dull in public and behind the scenes he's really a dynamo.

  • reagan was A DISASTER for the country. Clinton was 1000 times a better president !

  • I laughed pretty hard at the appearance of Dennis Miller who in recent years has become a Reagan apologist.

  • Right on! Happy Birthday... and SNL is still good.

  • Happy Birthday, Mr. President.

I hope this gets so many views today that it melts YouTube down (temporarily).

The deliciousness of this still-brilliant satire is: SNL thought they were lampooning Reagan by portraying him as a managerial/visionary genius behind closed doors... and History seems to bear out that they got it almost exactly right, even if by accident.

The Verdict of History has made this funny in a wholly unintended way...

    (R.I.P. Phil Hartman)

  • @NOBS4321...yes, because how dare conservatives feel good about themselves when liberals are so miserable and are the leaders of self-loathers.

  • People that knew him said thats pretty accurate how Ronald Reagan was.

  • 2:46 anyone remember that guy's name?

  • @TheLastBrainLeft Was that Whitney Brown?

  • @TheLastBrainLeft A. Whitney Brown

  • Yo! You Lousy Liberals Reagan was the best God Bless Ronald Regan and the 80's Good bye Obama what a mistake go Mit Romney!

  • If it had been Bush Sr. running the "meeting" and Regan asleep in the corner it would have been ...well...the TRUTH!

  • Pee Wee Herman reference in this sketch @3:24 :)

    RIP Phil Hartman <3

  • Was that Saddam Hussein that Reagan made a deal with?

  • "Afghanistan needs more money". You mean the money that went to Bin Laden and Al Qaeda?

  • This was great. Don't bother buying The Best of Phil Hartman SNL DVD it has about half of what is on here. This video has almost all of it-with the exception of the end when he is talking with the banks in Zurich.

  • Man, I miss when everyone knew Reagan was incompetent. Time blurs all memories.

Don't get your panties in a bunch, republicans, Clinton was incompetent too, and people think he's a genius.

  • RAEGAN SMASH!!!!!

  • Carson was a better Reagan.

  • I like how nobody got the blue countries joke...lmao

  • Genius Guts

  • Regarding the video, itself, I miss these SNL days. Loved both Phil and Dana, they were my reason for watching SNL.

  • Who's the Most Popular Modern President?

WASHINGTON, DC – According to a new Gallup survey, President John F. Kennedy remains the highest-rated president in modern history. President Ronald Reagan is second with a 74% approval rating

  • @willhunting1995 That's just sad. Where the fuck is Lincoln?!

  • @CoolerKing37 Ask Gallup!

  • @NOBS4321

    Let

    Me

    Talk

    Like

    You.

  • "this is part of the job i HATE!!!" lol.

  • I love Reagan but this is absolutely HILARIOUS!

  • mekka lekka hai mekka hiney ho

  • AND YOU DON'T NEED TO UNDERSTAND!

    LMAO love Hartman and Lovitz!

  • 50,000 views. :) miss ya phil.

  • GREAT PERFORMANCE! RIP PHIL HARTMAN

  • RIP :(

  • Caspar Weinberger= Jon Lovitz

  • Jim Carey does a great Reagan Impersonation.

  • "Jimmy...don't make me have to KILL you..."

    ROTFLMAO!!! AWESOME!!!

  • @MillBelater Wrong.

  • Very Very good impression of Ronald Regan. He really had a gift to do impressions.

  • It's great to see the two best impersonators in SNL's history sharing the stage, at their best. No point in arguing who was better - they had different styles. Carvey was the funniest, and Hartman was the most accurate.

There's a Hartman interview where he explains the different styles of doing impressions. He does "John Wayne" the way Rich Little did - which is how we all think of John Wayne - and then does J.W. the way he actually sounded., which is completely different. It's fascinating.

  • Reagan was awesome! :D

    God bless his spirit...

  • @RockyBalboa211 Reagan sucked!!! Phil Hartman owned!!!!

  • @willhunting1995 He tripled the National Debt, Created Osama Bin Laden (supplied him with weapons) , declared ketchup a vegetable for the childrens' lunch program, robbed the Social Security trust fund, and then there is the Iran Contra scandal. And almost half(if not over) of his staff was either convicted or under scrutiny for ethics violations. Conservatards will never face up to facts.

He also did the amnesty bill to let in millions of illegal aliens.

  • @Beardmania

    You should hear yourself:

    "He created Osama Bin Laden...."

Obviously Mr. and Mrs. Bin Laden created him, not Reagan.

  • @willhunting1995 HA! I wasn't even defending Clinton! All I said was: "Reagan sucked!!! Phil Hartman owned!!!" God, how stupid are you?

  • I miss Phil Hartman...

  • Excellent!

I love Dennis Miller's bit part - he almost blows it.

This is probably just how the White House did and does work.

  • I loved Reagan's fake Grandpa charm, he fooled me every time

  • Phil Hartman is fucking hilarious, I love this skid. I'll bet the real Reagan was like this.

  • Phil Hartman began working on a cartoon called "The Secret World of Edgar Screw Head" back in the 1970's, which is now in the works by his brother Paul and his friend John Paragon. You can get an idea of what the cartoon is about by visiting The Secret World of Edgar Screw Head page on Facebook. Check it out and have fun with it!

  • I havent seen this one since it first aired on TV. I've been looking for this one. This was Phil Hartman at his best and I love the audiences reaction. Awesome skit!!
