Economies don't need stimulus! You CAN cut government spending and taxes without screwing up the recession. There are plenty of pre-depression instances where this is true. And there are even many post-depression instances where we got out of recession without needing some big gov't stimulus. I mean, we got out of the 1980s recessions in a very short period of time. But Reagan didn't pass stimulus! He passed broad tax cuts! Obviously the tax cuts, at the least, did not hinder growth.

A large portion of the employment was private contractors.

Unlike the New Deal, a good portion of the actual war spending WAS private, contrary to popular belief. It's not like Congress and FDR just funneled all the war spending into government enterprises. Lots of companies, including contractors, mobilized for the war. THAT is what gave us economic recovery, not some "extreme" level of government spending that pushed us "over the top", as if to say during the New Deal we didn't have recovery because we "spent too little", which is ludicrous.
