nasi mendes husband was tyhe owner of the colonial warehouses where theu sold spices in northern europe, witch was worth its weight in gold... later when jews left portugal they started a company called west indies company witch was in fact what made the dutch empire
The noble Spanish Jewish lady Donna Gracia was her Jewish name and Beatrice de Lune was her Crypto-Jewish Marreno name. She was a woman of extraordinary beauty, culture and wealth.
Many thousands of Marranos and other persecuted Jews called her by no other name than "Our Angel."
Donna Gracia was from a Spanish noble family of Benveniste from Spain. They fled to Portugal after fleeing from the Spanish Inquisition.
Herself from a rich home, she had married the even richer Francis
antwerp was the fiancial centre from trading with portugal from the colonys until 1570 of course the jews had their hands all over it, and then they betraid us and left with money and secrets and knowledge of the colonys and army and give them to the dutch sending the dutch against us, jews arent victims
she was a great person and a real woman. she is fascinating. she had to stay strong for her people and her famiily and she did much for jewish people. may ELOHIM bless her soul. RIP
There are all kinds of items in this video that do not comport with the original research in Cecil Roth's foundational work on Dona Gracia Nasi. The very first image that is shown, the famous coin,--is of Gracia Chica--"Little Gracia"--the niece of Dona Gracia Nasi. That is the least of it. Gracia's connection with the Sultan was not a payoff, nor does Roth mention anything about Gracia having had a hand in building any community in Eretz Yisrael except Tiberias. Check facts.
a great character, my ultimate model for being a real woman, jew, and leader. I don't know if I should call her a feminist, but in my terms she surely was.
thanks for this film, a tribute to agreat woman in jewish history.
