I remember watching him sing this on the Lloyd Thaxton show in 1965. He was a Philly guy with the Dovells of course. Years later he used to bartend at a bar in Ardmore Pa. called "Montana's."
Hey... thanks for posting this... Never saw it before. It's great seeing all these legends together having a great time together and revisiting all that glorious music.
You're welcome! Most people missed this on tv, and it was not available anywhere for years (as far as I know), which is the reason I posted many of the performances from this great special.
Loved Len since he was with the Dovells. One of my favorite songs by them was the Bristol Stomp. He does a terrfic job here. Youth is sure fleeting. But we hang on to those memories, like this one from Len.
I love this performance! Len did a great job on this song after having a big hit with it in 1965 and he was also quite the showman in this video! Excellent!
DooWopJoe, I'm from Canada and truly appreciate the effort you put into putting this array of stars on You Tube. I play most of these performers at least once a day. Makes me smile and another great day begins
Two comments for you. First, very few performers will hit the same notes they had 35 or 40 years earlier. Second, (and you would not have known this) Len and a few others in this audience had come down with the flu for the first few days of the taping. Len had not even been able to eat for a couple of days prior to this session being filmed, and was nowhere near feeling 100%, but went out and did his best.
@DooWopJoe I was unaware of the flu that may possibly explain his singing, however; one performer I do know that can hit these notes like he first sang the song is Jay Black on his mega hit " cara mia
Yes, there are some exceptions to the rule--fortunately for us. The best example was the late Johnny Maestro, who until his death sounded almost identical to his records of 50 years ago. My friend, John Gummoe, lead of the Cascades still has his great voice, as does Jay Siegel of the Tokens, and some others. Unfortunately, many singers, like Vito Picone of the Elegants, lost theirs. But, we still have the sounds they recorded to appreciate their great voices.
Yes, everyone in the audience is a performer, DJ, or producer. I have uploaded Ketty doing "Love Letters" from this event. It was the emotional highlight of the several days for all who were there.
I had this on VHS tape. I just checked Amazon and there is a new copy of this program - Rock-n-Roll Graffiti - that someone has for sale, but act quickly, as there is only one!
Thanks my man. And thanks again for posting this. I wish so much that I would have taped it when it was on TV now. I wonder why they never play it on the air anymore? I think it was only on once, but I'm not sure.
Yes, it is easy, but to make it last, is difficult !!!!
Beautiful song. Thank you for sharing.
Big Thumbs Up !!!

Yes, the background singers are great. Look for the one I have with them, featuring Vicki Carrico doing "Think." Just fantastic!

I have been looking for this ever since I saw it this get together on PBS!! Thanks Joe!
I don't think they ever aired it again after it went on originally.
It was so cool. All the old cats talking and singing with each other.
Lenny stole the show too!
