In all seriousness, I don't find this scene to be very moving. To me, Clem is just sounding just like any other girl who is insecure about her looks. It just seems so vain to me, and not particularly intimate. Just an affirmation of physical attraction, nothing more.
@Arbiter567 I can kind of understand what you mean, but I think what's moving about this is that Clementine always tries to be so impulsive and careless and attempts to be a badass for most of the movie, but she was able to be so completely vulnerable with Joel that she was able to admit her insecurities, which she doesn't ever make mention of at any other point in the movie.
WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE? ARE YOU AFRAID TO LOOK UGLINESS IN THE FACE? WELL HERE! LOOK AT IT! LOOK AT IT! I WANT ALLLL OF YOU TO LOOOK AT IIIIIIIIIIIIIIT!!!!!
This is one of my favorite scenes in the movie. I love those talks you have in bed with the person you love...telling each other every wonderful and horrible thing. I miss it.
it's so amazing that people have the creativity and ability to capture moments that are truly this beautiful. everyone has moments in their life that reach this level of beauty but very few can actually capture the idea weather it be real or imaginary. and i love the fact that the director of this movie does it in such a creative and amazing way.
This movie brings back memories. Even when a relationship seems bad, after its over, u wish for it all back. All the pain is worth the beauty of the love u shared.
It's been long enough... someone needs to post a better version of this scene. Her voice is all high pitched, it's kinda blurry and the subs aren't necessary. This is one of the best scenes in the film
If you put a apron on in your kitchen, you're a mama's boy who does women's work. If you put an apron on in a restaurant, you're a chef with a respected skill. Either way you may just be a guy who likes to cook. The perceptions of your schoolmates reflect their own uninteresting lives. Like what you want to like especially if its good.
FYI... This movie is not a chick flick. Your friends just didn't understand it.
it's so rare that a film transcends itself, when you no longer see the actors, or the director, or hear the music, or believe you are looking through the lens of a camera. This is one of those moments, this is me witnessing an act of pure intimacy.
@lulustu Ever had something to hide for fear of getting hurt? You'd act tough too. But inside you're insecure and scared to open up. I know because I am just like her.
@codeman017 idk i just looked at the statistics... it had all females at various ages... just a quick question to all the girls that read this, is it a good thing to like movies like this, or is that considered "weird, or soft" idk... just curious
@codeman017 You are defts not the only guy who likes it, my ex-boyfriend is the one who showed it to me because it's one of his favorites and my brother likes it now too.
@codeman017 You are not alone. I'm a dude with a film school degree, and this is the last, latest great film that I have seen. Out of thousands I've watched, there are only a few like this. It works on so many levels that it still haunts me today, especially this scene.
@CH3CH2OH4U idk i was brought up with the notion if a girl likes it its not cool, i always loved titanic, but i was considered gay at school for liking it... oh well life is full of people that are scared of saying what they mean, if only, if only
@alienapatricia Di you mean at the end when the house is falling apart? She says "Meet me in Montauk." Montauk is the train where they met the second time.
@codeman017 The song you're asking about is called, "Phone Call" by Jon Brion. I bought this soundtrack because it's amazing. Just do a search for Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind on Amazon and you can listen to it.
Although there were several music artists in the sound track, all original pieces made for the film itself were composed by Brion.
this is such a beautiful scene... the music is relxing and it seems so real.... I'm literally replaying this just to feel the feeling i'm feeling... :'(
This is absolutely the best scene in the movie! I get the feeling there's a little bit of the real Kate Winslet slipping out here. This movie's gotta be her finest hour!
I thought the dialogue of this whole movie was brilliant, but this scene particularly. And another one I can't find on YT -- "I had you pegged, didn't I?" <3
Just that JOEL didn't want to lose this memory- a memory that surely would have meant more for Clementine. That's love. Not wanting to part with the affirmation and adoration he gave her that she needed.
No problem. But to be honest, I think you might be out of luck. Last time I checked Brion's website they remodeled and took down the freebies section. As far as I know they're not even SELLING it anywhere. I know this is impulsive (almost as a lark) but I suppose I could send you a copy of it if you're truly DYING to have it. :)
Thank you, I just tried looking for it and I couldn't find it. You know somebody online always tends to have something like that. Out of print albums are usually easy to find online even if they're just digital copies.
I got lost in the scene but then you think where are the lights and the camera and Mic ..... Good job :)

Well, actually it is a rendition of the same song earlier in the movie, "Phone Call", but this one is called "Joel's Tangerine".
You can find it on Jon Brion's online album "The Frozen Charles". It has all the songs in the movie that weren't featured on the soundtrack. :)
