  • This car is perfect

  • CLASS!!

  • I am unsure of the series, as I am not very fimiliar with RR's. I will have to speak with the dealer on that! The owner of the silver spirit, I was told that he was a collector of rolls royce's. Also I saw TONS of documents for service and maintence on this, that is why I am considering buying this, because it appears to be very well maintained. What is it like driving an older RR? I have never driven one, hopefully I will be able to test drive this one soon.

  • @boatfreak009 When checking the service records see when the steering rack and the nitrogen spheres were last replaced. These are common problems with Spurs/Spirits. Check the ride, check the breaks, check the fluids. And make sure that the service has ONLY used the recommended fluids in the car. If not you may have a hydraulic nightmare on your hands. Is the dealer a R-R dealership? Can you get a R-R mechanic to inspect it? Also, I suggest joining the Rolls-Royce Owners' Club.

  • @ShandyHall I will be sure to ask and check for all of that when I go for a test-drive. It is a bentley dealership here in pittsburgh. Sadly, the only RR dealership in all of PA, In Sewickly, just closed down. I can ask and see if there is a certified RR mechanic. Hopefully everything is in order!

  • @boatfreak009 The Bentley dealership should be able to help you. Back when your car was built RR and Bentley were pretty much the same car. Good luck, and again, please join the RROC. They are a great help.

  • ShandyHall,

I have watched several of your RR videos, and I enjoy watching them very much. How many Rolls Royce's do you own? I do not own a RR, but there is a 1986 Rolls Royce Silver Spirit with 21,000 miles on it. I was wondering if you could give me any insight, likes, dislikes, problems ect. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated! Thank You

  • @boatfreak009 This is my second RR. I sold the Silver Cloud that I had to get this one.

Is the 1986 car that you are looking at a 1986 1/2 (20000 series)? There is a difference between the two. But as with any old car, it is the maintenance that counts, not the miles. 21,000 is VERY low and could indicate that the car has been neglected.

  • mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmhhhhhhhhhhh wonderful car, paradise and heaven

  • many people commented about the engine noise, but i like this groove V8 sound even in these cars!

  • Just like any car it is the upkeep that makes the difference. I have found this car to be very reliable.

  • how reliable are they? i heard they were very unreliable, but i doubt they can be as unreliable as my current car, what have you had to do other than regular service?

  • Nice rolls there! If i ever stumble upon these cars, i'm gonna refine it in every possible ways to meet the 21 century.

Not like the original, but something like a certain Mentley Insanne, which is one insanely mean car...

  • I know I'm gonna get killed for saying this but the interior of a Lexus LS430 is much quieter inside.

  • Great video! I notice comments about engine noise. The car was intended to sound this way. In 1997 they took the normally aspirated engine and exhaust, which was tuned for a more "throaty" sound and improved performance, out of the Bentley Brooklands, and put it in the long wheelbase RR Silver Dawn. Then they took the "light turbo" designed for the Silver Spur, and put it in the Brooklands, but used the shorter wheelbase. So the Silver Dawn has the richer, still muted Bentley tuned exhaust.

  • @0tt00tt0 I never knew that. Thanks for the information.

  • im an undertaker and weve just sold this car, im gutted

  • Well, not THIS car.

  • how much would this one go for?

  • @scotfreak mine was a 1993 and cost 30K US dollars

  • Beautiful and very sophisticated car.

  • Thank You for posting this video. Our family owns a 1995 Silver Dawn In Black/Black it has been a remarkable car since we bought it three years ago. Cheers !

  • a bit noisy, inside, for a rolls...

  • I was surprised to hear an annoying buzzer when you started up this Rolls Royce. I thought a car as ultra expensive as this car would have used a chime by 1997 which is even more lame since the Dodge Neon which is much cheaper has the pretty chime sound.

  • This is a very stately car that I would prefer over my MB 500 SEL. I've posted a test drive video of it, but the car doesn't have the same level of a majestic statement as yours.

  • Sorry, but you can't compare a Rolls-Royce with a Mercedes.

  • @VillaPanorama Yes you can. You can compare a Rolls Royce with a flamingo, or chewing gum if you like. Not that it would make much sense of course, but it is possible. A 500SEL will last forever, but it is not as charming and cozy as the Roller. I would prefer the Silver Spirit over the 500 SEL anytime.

  • LOTS of exhaust note and rattles....although probably not the way it sounds in reality. I have a Subaru WRX STI and all videos from inside the car sound a lot noisier than reality. BEAUTIFUL ROLLS.

  • Did you have the drivers window down while recording this? Seemed to be much engine noise?

    Cheers

    GVH Australia

  • The windows were closed. It was recorded on January 1, 2008 in Virginia, USA so it was a bit cold. I had done another recording of a short trip and someone wanted to hear the engine noise. Anyway, that is not the engine you hear, that is the sound of the clock ticking at 60 mph. ; )

  • pretty damm quite to me, the car is floating like a feather and sounds like an angels fart

  • What about rust?

    Are these vehicles zinced?

  • Absolutely no rust. There is quite a process in painting these cars and making them as close to perfect as they can get.

  • Grateful for the quick reply. That´s good.

Cars rust also from inside, that´s a great danger and difficult to detect.

I also think, these cars are like tanks.

    Have a good trip!

  • Before I had this car I had a 1961 Silver Cloud II. It had a complete paint job and no rust was on that one either.

They can be a bit "tankish". Remember, Vickers Defense Systems owned R-R Motors at the time this car was built; so I guess it does make it a tank. :)

  • You can hear the power in that engine when you're accelerating. Do you like the car after owning it all this while, or does the thrill diminish with time? Also, what is approximate cost of yearly maintenance? Thank-you. And thanks for the video.

  • I have had the car for over two years now and the thrill is still there. I drove it over 150 miles on Tuesday and had a ball. It turns heads, but not as much as the '61 Silver Cloud II that I had before this.

As for costs, its annual maintenance is far less than the Cloud I had. Once I got the bugs out it has been a gem. Annual maintenance has not been bad at all. However it does take premium gas, OUCH!

  • Thank-you.

  • A nicely answered response. I can remember that "all you will hear is the sound of the clock ticking" was a comment originally used in Rolls Royce advertising many many years ago.

My personal feeling is that we are talking simply about engineering excellence!

  • A fine British icon in America, that´s funny

do you drive to Mc Donalds with this car :-D

  • I have certainly done so in the past, and I am sure I will in the future.

  • Royalty of automobiles! Adorable!

  • Lovely car!

  • we have a merc s320lwb 1995 model but nxt car is a rolls can any1 tel me if they are quiet when driving wat the handlings like etc rouph idea on silver spur 2 or 3 if u can thanks

  • Hello, I currently own a 1997 BMW 750iL and I was offered a 1997 RR Silver Spur doing about 60K miles (100K km)and I'm very tempted to buy it. I believe that there is nothing on earth more sophisticated and glamorous as a RR. What's your opinion?

  • Have the Spur checked out by someone who knows RR's. Remember, it is not the miles; it's the maintenance that counts.

Of course I prefer RR to most any other car so I do have my bias toward the Spur. Mine has been a great car. Lots of fun and boy does it turn heads.

  • of course all rr all great but if u have the money do a new 1 my dad has a 04 phanton black and it is so nice super soft leather and extremely quite while driving
