  • It isn't long enough. More!!!!

  • Try syncing all those synths up without MIDI, just working off triggers and CV gates, then recording to recording to analogue in perfect time....these guys did! and it was 1979. Go figure.........

It makes me want to cry just to hear how unique and special the YMO were, still sounds light years ahead.

  • @RoofLight00 So true.

  • @RoofLight00 Same feeling here buddy :) Amazing groundbreaking music doesn't exist like this anymore, I wasn't even around in the 70s but I still feel the nostalgia!

  • This is just awesome.

  • National Anthem of Japan

  • im gonna make some really cheesy lyrics for this

  • This is great !

  • lol wtf did i just watch?

  • @RuskoVEVO you're doing it wrong. this is pure awesomeness.

  • @RuskoVEVO

    epicness

  • This song is bloody brilliant. Hard to believe it's from 1979 (!).

  • Sugoi.

  • great

  • Fun fact: This served as the main theme of a obscure Sega arcade game called "Super Locomotive". even as a chip tune, it's catchy as hell.

  • @poopskinTheLiar Probably how you ended up finding it on YouTube in the first place. I remember playing that game in an arcade and loved the tune. Good to find it on YouTube. (There's also a 10 minute video of super locomotive knocking about here too.)

  • good song :)

  • EPIC!!!!

  • analyzing YMO songs is fun cause they tend to use their synths like full 88key instruments so when a particular lead sound isnt going you can look for it playing chords in a different octave. good times

  • This is awesome. Did any of these guys go on to do video game music?

  • @FilthyScumX Nope. This guys were before video games. In fact video game music composers were vastly influenced by this band. That's why it's so similar.

  • @FilthyScumX

Rhyuchi Sakamoto progressed in to Film, mobile phones, games, club/techno, solo & collabotaive acoustic & electronic music. He is also an accomplished classical pianist.

...pretty much 'you name it - sakamotto's done it' ;)

    Peace,

    L

  • when i think of the synthesizers at use at use here it just takes my breath away over and over

  • a-

  • This is what my brain sounds like after I've had an orgasm. Then it goes back to Joy Division again.

  • COOOOOOOOOOOL

  • @danamcwonderful Well I guess we can say he was Rydeen you.

  • All the more impressive, when you consider that this video was made way back in 1979!

  • And wow they look young in this... Which one at 0:13 is Ryuichi Sakamoto? I know not the middle bbecause he's the drummer, but...

  • @96eg3 Sakamoto on the left, Takahashi in the middle, Hosono on the right.

  • Everyone that i've shown this song to in the last 3 years, regardless of musical taste or anything, has loved it, and has repeated it at least once... That's gotta mean something!

  • I just found out that both of my parent saw YMO live in the 80s. You cannot imagine my reaction, hahahaa!

  • @swimmerforlife789 man your parents are so fucking cool, did they see them coked out?

  • @swimmerforlife789 your parents are so cool

  • 0:13 the guy on the right is like, 'you better get this shit right or you're out of the band'

  • tripping balls

  • why cant i stop hearing this??!!!

  • I feel like a power ranger when I listen to this

  • SIGGI HLÖ

  • @RedRoomNW2 Who do you think those Japanese VGM artists were listening to when they wrote all that early Nintendo music? YMO.

  • i feel like i heard this song in chrono trigger n_n If i did.. that makes me love that game even more haha

  • Ok this was used for an Italian TV game show in 1980something! Unforgettable..

    The tune rules!!!

  • Logan sent me.

  • Classic !

  • Glorious

  • Sounds like Mega Man 2 music via live musicians circa 1970s

  • I got this on vynly in 79 Loved evermore

  • Wow, I love how lame the part with them shooting the lasers is. And yet, it couldn't possibly get any cooler. Why? Because it's YMO.

  • One of the better musics ever! Congratz YMO!

  • i didn't know Ryuichi Sakamoto was in the Yellow Magic Orchestra. So awesome.

  • By the way, I don't get why people don't like this video.

  • This reminds me of Mark Ronson's clip Bang Bang Bang and I love this.

  • The only thing that could make this better would be a nyan cat cameo at around the 2:35 mark

  • YMO

    再び

  • Agreed. Period.

  • This. Is. Fucking. Great. I'm in fucking love and I'm 2:22 into my first listen. Holy balls.

  • Doin' great job... Electronic music, but still with traditional Asian motive's. And it's from 79'. So... cheers from Poland.

  • This is the greatest thing I have ever heard in the history of noise. I loved Daley Thompsons music on the C64 but never knew it was ripped from these guys. Absolute legends! So far ahead of their time.

  • such geniuses from the 1970's

  • Before white mages, black mages, and red mages, there were those who practiced Yellow Magic. These guys.

  • Good song good band, but will always live in the shadow of the true first electro band: Kraftwerk

  • @cameronsmith1994

YMO has major influences on the chip tune genre

This song sounds like a proto-VGM

  • @cameronsmith1994 first doesnt matter shi.t, elvis wasnt the first rockn roll artist, queen not the first rock band and mozart or beethoven were neither the first pianists and composers....etc etc . kraftwerk is way less melodic than YMO. definately YMO is the better band

  • this was the Frist Techno that came out

  • @ShiroChronicle ah, but did the 90's start late 1990 or mid-1992? Experts still wrestle with the question...

  • whoot!

orz

  • just cant get this song out of my head argh!

  • Love YMO. I believe Rydeen was the first YMO song I heard.

There is a xylophone(?) version that I have been trying to find for a while now. I am 99.8% sure that it was Rydeen played with a xylophone and moog(?) keyboard. Anyone know what that rendition is called? Or where I can find it? Thanks!!

  • @Artsee watch?v=6WfhOpnYLP8

  • FUCKKKKKKKKKKKKK YEAHHHHHHHHHHH

  • They look bored xD

And this video makes me dizzy as hell. @_@

  • This song is in the 1982 Sega arcade game Super Locomotive.

  • I love how the drummer in the video isn't even playing anything close to the track

  • Groovy.

  • Rydeen, yellow magic orchestra. too pimp for reelz

  • Was this video made in 1979 or 1980?

  • @n64wilbert It's from 1979. This is from their studio album "Solid State Survivor" which was released on September 25th 1979.

  • @sonicstefan1991 Not the song the video.

  • @n64wilbert Oh, right. Sorry. With that, I don't know.

  • I hate how I can't find tabs/notes for this song. :(

  • lolwut dbz super butouden opening theme = this

  • In the 80's this song was the music theme of an italian Tv show named Bis

  • Crazy Japanese music.... I love it

YMO !!!!!!

  • all Japanese were very shocked at that time

  • YMO, Kraftwerk and Giorgio Moroder!

electronica wouldn't even exist without these geniuses.

  • you know who really start first electro music tests?

    KARLHEINZ STOCKHAUSEN

he start with that in the 50's

  • @spyguybuy really? =/ i mean, i heard of him but i didnt know he started electronica...

  • @spyguybuy

Well, him and Pierre Schaeffer, Raymond Scott, among others. They all composed electronic pieces independently from each other, all using avantgarde methods.

  • @McLarenMercedes:

i dont know them.i check them out.

  • @spyguybuy

Not really. There were others before him, such as France's Pierre Schaeffer in 1948 and, even earlier, Egypt's Halim El-Dabh in 1944. In Japan's case, the country's first electronic music studio was founded as early as 1950.

Also, the term "electro" refers specifically to the Roland-based "electro-funk" genre of the 1980s, not to electronic music as a whole.

  • @Jagged85:

man,who ever start it.i just love ymo and kraftwerk ,jean michele jarre etc.

    they all are music history.

  • i didnt know sakamoto was one of ymo

  • out in 1979...creative or merely strange?

  • Japanese people are awesome. Period.

  • @SweetMatheson That's a HELLA ignorant line of jive...Just lump all together. BRILLIANT!

  • lui elliot's part

  • Damn! I remember this tune!

  • 31 dislikes... you people are crazy!

  • @sakuraiben

  • @sakuraiben

  • they blow my mind into far away places

  • Awesome!

  • This sounds like the music you hear from cracks lol.

  • like this if Frank Musik brought you here.

  • @hazelnashox You mean Vincent Frank? Why, he mentioned somewhere?

  • @qweuio well same thing... lol he shared the link on twitter.

  • @hazelnashox I see, thanks. Just had to double-check, cos I couldn't believe it.

  • @henrideath maybe he doubles as roadie, too. in order to make op for his lackluster stage antics.
